Re: Colgate 2013-14

Ranked #21 in the USCHO poll, 12 pts behind Maine. Good to see us moving up. Clarkson at #13 will be another big test on Friday. It doesn't get any easier with upcoming games against #3 Union and #4 QU. It seems like every game we play is against a ranked opponent :)
Looks like playing all those ranked teams is paying off in spades. Great to see them playing so well against great compitition. Should be a fun ride the rest of the way. I'm making the trip down to the Friday game and I wasn't planning on seeing another game this year. The last game I saw was the Sunday afternoon game vs U Mass. Didn't think they were going anywhere after that weekend. Boy was I wrong. Here's hoping for a repeat of last weekend and maybe a move into the top 20. No reason they can't. Good luck guys.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Very true, however they may leave for HE down the road although that may seem absurd now.

Doesn't seem absurd at all. Q straddles the ECAC/HE profile and seems ambitious to become a name regionally. 12 is a very stable membership for a conference (the ECAC has been at 12 for almost 30 years), but if a current HE member were to leave I can see HE being interested.

You better order tix before you go, might be a sellout. Call 228-7600

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Got to admit this weekend scares me. Ranked team that is playing hot and a talented team that is not. Tough game on Friday regardless with a lot of "cred" on the line for both teams. Classic trap game against a wounded (figuratively if not literally) nemesis on Saturday.

On a positive note, Finn has a 1.65 gaa and a .942 save percentage over the last 9 games - those would rank him third in gaa and second in save percentage in the country if they were full year. Here's to hoping that those early tough games are permanently behind him.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Huge PWR implications also. Clarkson tied for twelvth and us tied for nineteenth, a win tonight puts us close to being in. Believe it or not, we can be tied for first with two wins and a Union loss.

We would be tied with QU straight up (they have the tie breaker right now) and be one point up on union but they would have an additional game in hand (as would Clarkson). But it is exciting to think we might have a chance at the cleary cup this year. But still alot of hockey left

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Sullivan has us sweeping this weekend. I hate when that happens. All we need is added pressure :(

Re: Colgate 2013-14

And this is why I don't worry about Clarkson. Since Game 2 of the 07-08 playoffs we're 10-1-3 against them and the one loss came after food poisoning for the team.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

The Good:
-We win!
-Clarkson hasn't beaten us at Starr since February 2007, also we have now won 5 in a row against the Golden Knights at Starr Rink
-We have a 5 game winning streak, and a 6 game unbeaten streak
-We are still undefeated in 2014

The Bad:
-We coughed up a 2-0 lead, allowing Clarkson to tie the game with 12 seconds left in the 2nd period
-The video feed from the Patriot League Network was VERY choppy. It would frequently freeze for a few seconds, then resume, then a few seconds later it would skip ahead. The video became nearly unwatchable in the final 5 minutes of the 3rd period.

Tomorrow night's game won't be easy. St. Lawrence's losing streak is over, but its winless streak is not, as they tied Cornell 4-4, and their goalie saved a penalty shot in overtime.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Great game and great turnout in the stands! The video did suck and was minutes behind the live action play. Black is a tremendous player. Hate taking late period penalties that always open the gate for the other team. Clarkson had 2 SH attempts and more shots than we did on our own pp. And that scrum at the end after the final whistle...I'll bite my tongue.
Clarkson didn't seem miss a beat w/out their star player. We lucked out with his absence.
Congrats, 'Gate!
Beat SLU!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

St. Lawrence will be tough, they lead the league in PP goals at 30%.
It goes without saying that Carey & Carey need to be defended extremely well or we will certainly be in trouble.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Great game and crowd last night. Black played his best game since being injured last fall and got the winner. Finn continued his strong play but we have to stop teams from running him.

We are now in third place and have entered the PWR as the sixteenth team in the NCAA's if the season ended today.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Great game last night, continue to love team speed and offense. Power play also seems to be putting more pucks on net but there continue to be those little lapses that occur at all the wrong moments, but we're getting better.

Did anyone but me see something somewhere which said AD and staff are meeting with arena architects/design consultants this weekend? Has there been any announcement of who they are? I know back in '06 when the issue was first floated as a feasibility study Cannon Design in Boston was chosen to look at refurbishing all of Reid. Don't know if they are still in mix but they've done a number of new arenas including BU's so have excellent creds.

I agree. My feed came from TW on the PLN, but was very choppy and jumped ahead quite a bit. I wouldn't have seen Black's goal if it weren't for the replay. And those announcers? Yikes! Glad we have Gate Radio most of the time.

Don't know which was prettier: our tick-tac-toe goal by Tylor Spink (with two beautiful assists), or Black's shot over Perry's right shoulder - amazing stuff...NHL caliber. Great to get the win and see us in 3rd in the league. Speed kills, and that's the ace in the hole this team seems to have. Time after time I saw our players beat the Nights (sic) to the puck. We just seemed to be buzzing on all cylinders last night. Hope we can keep it up vs. the Carey Bros.

As to Oldtimers question about the architects, I know nothing. But there is an interesting piece on the USCHO home page about the TD Bank rink and how it is thought to be the best ice in the country. I hope our planners take a gander at that and visit Hamden; TD Bank seems to be the gold standard of ice and the overall seating plan and visitor services. It would be great to replicate that barn :)

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Well, this is certainly turning out to be a fun season! The way I see it, there are four reasons we're much improved this season:

1) The sophomore class is not only really good but they're markedly improved from last season.
2) Having Goulakas back steadies everyone.
3) Finn looks like our first legit #1 since Dekanich.
4) Our fourth line is getting it done (this is something which GreenCoat has rightfully noted as sorely lacking in recent years.)

Let's keep it going tonight!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

And I agree that the Q-Pac rink is the gold standard. Let's hope the powers that be are paying attention!
