Re: Colgate 2013-14

Bummer of a weekend :(

Better effort tonight, but very disappointing. I think GR summed it up best - see his previous post. UMASS seemed to be much bigger that 'Gate, and with their long arms were able to shut down any PP chances we got. THis game had it all: 0-fer on the PP (I think it was 8); game misconduct; SHG; fights; etc., etc. Unfortunate to end the first half of the season sub-500. Now we have to face the Red Stars

Re: Colgate 2013-14

We are 3-7 at home this year. With this weekend's results, our RPI and PWR took a rather significant hit.

Zero for nine on the PP yesterday!

Correction, we did score one goal... on our own net. I am not a coach or even close but I think one of the problems on the pp is that we just pass the puck to the wing who continuously shoot between the goal line and faceoff circle. We never have a great angle at the net.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Heck of a tournament coming up, we have the chance to play the top two teams in the country back to back. I am not expecting to win the tournament but coming out of the weekend with at least one win would be huge. (Playing RPI although not as tough would give us a "free" league game). And a win against a league member is never bad

Anyone ready for the second half of the season? I am!

Let's just forget about what happened against UMass and go forward. A good 2nd half run like RPI had last year could really pay good dividends. I personally like the fact that we have an exhibition against the Russian Red Stars before traveling out to Minnesota. It'll allow the players to tune up after a layoff.

And I agree with red133883, at least 1 win this coming weekend would be huge for us going forward. Winning at home will also benefit us. Happy New Year!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Yeah, it's really too bad. FSN needs another Alternate Channel. Or just broadcast it on Fox College Sports. I realize there are probably financial restraints to doing either, but it really sucks that this potential matchup won't be televised.

Here's the update with TV on Saturday night at 7/8pm:

FOX Sports North: Minnesota Wild
FOX Sports North +: Minnesota Timberwolves
FOX Sports Detroit: Detroit Red Wings
NBC Sports: Notre Dame @ Boston College
CBS Sports: College Basketball - Harvard @ Rice
ESPNU: College Basketball - Indiana State @ Evansville
FCSA: Anchorage @ Wisco
FCSC: College Basketball - Texas A&M @ Oral Roberts
FCSP: College Basketball - Eastern Kentucky @ Southern Illinois

So basically, every network that broadcasts college hockey is broadcasting live content that night. There is one network left that officials are working to finalize details to broadcast the Minnesota 7/8pm Saturday night game. Will be announced ASAP.

Regardless, although Minnesota does not typically video stream their games, they will be streaming all 4 this weekend on www.GopherSports.com.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Anyone get to the Russian Red Stars exhibition?

The good: We were 2 for 5 on the PP; the Sprink twins put up points on their 21st birthdays; we came from behind with 7 minutes to go to win it; Finn and Mihalik got to share duties and warm-up for Minny.

The bad: Russians scored in the first minute; they took the lead late, 2-1; their goalie appeared to be hot.

Although only an exh game, we continue to start very slowly, and get scored on the first minute or two. Fighting from behind and winning will only happen so often. We can't afford to try come-from-behind games this weekend in Minny.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

That other network was the Big Ten Network:

Minnesota announced that the 7 p.m. central game on Saturday night will be broadcast nationally on BTN and streamed on BTN2Go.com

Regardless if Minnesota wins or loses tomorrow night, they will play at 7 central/8 eastern on the Big Ten Network. That means if Minnesota loses, the championship game will be played at 4/5 on Saturday without TV coverage.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Why would the Championship game be played first, just because Minny will be shown at 7PM no matter what ?

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I can't wait to see the game tonight. Ten thousand fans, bigger rink(15 feet wider) #1 team in the nation. We better be ready.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Good luck tonight, Colgate .... get in there and do some damage ... alot of real damage !!!! If you skate against them, the way you skated against us, you will definately win. Given your speed, the larger ice is to your advantage. Send them a message ... you are not some practice game, some warmup for the inevitable Ferris State final and send another clear message to that part of the world ... you are not some brand of toothpaste. Make them pay !!!!

Oh, yes, and payback for 2001.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Thank you Dutchman, I have to agree with you that we are being taken for granted. We are indeed a young team with much upside but we need to put three periods together, when we've done that we have some success. Will they be ready ?
