Re: Colgate 2013-14

Defending National Champions coming to town, we are currently twenty third in the PWR, a win here would jump us well into the teens. Not going to be easy, but we're playing well. Ya never know.

In my personal opinion, it's a bit too early to be thinking about the PWR, since (A) it's only November, and (B) there are no reliable PWR calculators out there yet given the changes to the NCAA selection criteria. If you want a better statistical measurement, look at KRACH. We're 11th in that category with the 3rd toughest schedule so far. FOUR of our wins have come from the teams currently ranked 7th, 12th, 18th, and 21st. FIVE of our losses come from the teams ranked 2nd (St. Cloud, twice), 4th, 7th, and 16th.

The point I'm trying to make here is: if we can go on an incredible run like RPI did in January/February of last season, we'll be towards the top of the PWR rankings. Heck, we were 17th in the PWR going into February of last year and had we not "folded", we would have been in the hunt for an NCAA bid come March (though we may have still had to win the entire ECAC tournament).

Rain go to Collegehockeynews.com for what has been said is a true PWR rankings. I don't think it's too early as our OOC games are almost over.
If we do well now in conference play we will be in tremendous shape in the PWR.

Yes, but they can still have the correct comparisons to date. Right ? TUC is just a RPI of .500.

No, considering their basis also includes record vs. TUC, a comparison that has been removed beginning this year. Not to mention, how do we know they are calculating RatingsPI correctly? They may not be doing the weighting or the quality wins bonus.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

This is a huge game tonight, I hope there's some people there. Sullivan say "it better sold out". :)

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I have to say attendance has been better this year than years past. I am not going to say we are one of the biggest draws in the league, but in comparison to years past it is getting better. (At least looks that way).

As far as attendance I think the next three games are big games. First you have the defending national champs and then the cornell away game. The student body always seems to come out to the rink after a W Against Cornell. If Vaughn and crew can pull off two wins there Starr rink my get loud coming down the stretch.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

The students are on break so we will have less "brats" at the game. They're just on phone anyways.

The students get a full week off for Thanksgiving now, "Spring Break"/UConn style????? No fair, back in my student days we still had to go to class on the Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. Professors would schedule exams and/or paper due dates for these days to prevent students from leaving early and skipping class.

Guess that mean's a half-empty/half-full barn tonight.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Yale and Quinnipiac seem to be the cream of the crop in the ECAC again this year. No discipline in the first period killed this game early on, you can't take 4 penalties in the first period against a team this good. Not Mihaliks fault tonight with that many shots of goal. Yale had some good defense, we struggled to get any decent shots or scoring opportunities. Hopefully we can rebound tomorrow night and remain at 5-3 in ECAC play.

*We have also currently played the 2nd toughest schedule in the country according to KRACH so 6-7-1 and a great chance to get back to .500 tomorrow night is not all that bad.

You're absolutely correct, we buried ourselves in the first period and could never recover. Yale is a very good team.

Where was Tylor Spink last night, Audi played with Tyson and Baun ? I didn't hear anything about him being injured, would be a huge loss.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Tylor Spink was out with an apparent upper-body injury, and it showed last night. Hopefully with no games next weekend he will only miss tonight's game vs. Brown then be back on Dec. 7 against Cornell.

Aside from that, we did NOT play our best hockey last night. It's unfortunate, since we always match up well against Yale. But taking FIVE penalties in the first period, resulting in four Yale power-play opportunities, is not a good thing. On Yale's 4th power play in the 1st period we could not clear, resulting in Yale's 2nd goal. Fortunately we were able to score twice and get some lucky bounces, but a bad opening 20 minutes really did us in last night. Just have to forget about it and move onto tonight. Brown is one of two teams that we generally "beat up on" at Starr Rink, but we still have to come out and play strong.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Watched online last night. Just didn't seem to be able to get anything going offensively - no consistency - and the penalties hurt. Being outshot 20-something to 4 in the first period set the tone. Yale played great hockey, but we didn't do much to stop their offense. We couldn't clear the puck from our end, nor get multiple cycling opportunities going at their end. Most of our few shots were wide of the mark. Brown will be eager tonight after their loss; we better be on our toes. We really miss Tylor

The highlight of last night was a brief cameo appearance by shabby in the stands while the refs consulted the replay :)

Re: Colgate 2013-14

We get the split, 3-1, despite being outshot in the third by a large margin. Lots of traffic in front of Finn in the third. We're lucky to get the win. Hopefully this carries over to the Cornell and Mass games.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I'm happy with a five and three ECAC record for these seventeen frosh and sophomores. Currently tied for second place and a win or tie over Cornell keeps us there over the long holiday break. That would be a great way to finish this half and give me my Xmas present. Spink is hurt , hope he's back for the BiG Red.

Thought Finn was very very quick last night playing his best game so far. He stopped two breakaways, the internet feed was great, even when I stretched it out, very clear, the audio was goofy though.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Last night, the good:
-We win a defensive game for once! (2-1 plus empty-netter)
-3 goals were all unique: 1st goal was shorthanded, 2nd goal was even-strength, 3rd goal was empty-net
-38 saves for Charlie Finn
-We answer Brown's only goal with one of our own, the eventual game-winner

The bad:
-0 for 6 on the power play, including a full 2:00 of 5x3
-In the 3rd period, Brown played with a sense of urgency, while we were at times holding on for dear life.

Still, a win is a win. Up next: Cornell.
