Take that naysayers. We dominated after being down 2-0 very early in the game. I suppose their will be some "good" posts now !!!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

True fact: I thought about making the drive out to Schenectady to see tonight's game. But other commitments and a sense of doubt in my mind kept me at home. Lo and behold, we defeat Union, on the road, for the first time since that playoff series in March 2011. (Side note: until tonight, our last regular season win in Schenectady was back in February 2007.) I regret not seeing the game but I will happily trade that for a win.

It won't get any easier tomorrow night. RPI coughed a late 3rd-period lead to Cornell and had to settle for a tie. They are also without their primary goalie Jason Kasdorf. However, the backup (Scott Diebold) is just as talented, and I remember him standing on his head and stealing a game against 'Gate back in February 2012.

Also of note, tonight was our first road win against an ECAC opponent since February 4, 2012 -- against RPI.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Union coach Bennett says they were "taken out to the woodshed and Colgate would have won if Wayne Gretzky had played for Union" :). I'm a little confused about Murphy's hat trick. It was never mentioned and the scoresheet says Tylor Spink got the open netter ? Well, we're getting better, we played "fifty three" minutes last night, and we dominated the third outshooting them 13 to 5. Very happy this am. Now play sixty minutes tonight.

Very frequently, goals can be awarded to different players after the fact. It appears that the empty-net goal which sealed our victory was initially awarded to Darcy Murphy, giving him the hat trick, but then it was reviewed and changed to Tylor Spink.

This commonly happens on slap-shot goals, where a replay indicates that a player very close to the net redirects/deflects the puck to go in. But I've never seen a scoring change on an empty-net goal before.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Gate Radio initially said Tylor Spink. Our RPI jumped over .500 to a TUC now, our SOS is #15 and will be even higher after tonight.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

couldn't be happier as well...I guess you could call me a "naysayer" or at least a cynic...please, continue to make me look dead wrong...it would please me to no end...sophomore class continues to impress and maybe, just maybe, we'll see our frosh improve...as I mentioned in my last post, love Murphy's energy and skill level...he was going to come here this year, but when Wagner left for the pros he was accelerated by a year...and one continuing wish: no serious injuries on the "D"...good night: even the hoops team played Wake very tough...

I'll bite...

First, great road win for Colgate at Union especially after being down 2 goals in the first. Congrats to the coach and team.

Second, I'm more of a realist than a naysayer. We won 2 road games at UMass last year but somehow did not manage to win any on the road in ECAC play, although we had some ties. Hopefully we will show up tonight even if we lose, RPI has let two games get away from them this year including last night against Cornell so I'm sure they will come fired up especially after we won last night. They will not take us lightly. Next week it does not get any easier as both north country teams are playing some solid hockey. I can't get a read on Clarkson yet though because all of their wins have come against some real bad opponents thus far but their record is what it is.

Acutally, your RatingsPI is 57.31 and you are just outside a tournament spot. USCHO doesn't have the calculation correct because they don't know how to properly do the new weighting paradigm.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

In other news, Jesse Winchester is now with the Florida Panthers. He scored Florida's lone goal last night in a 4-1 loss to the Bruins. He also got away with what should have been an elbowing penalty and also got in a fight with Gregory Campbell of the Bruins.

He may not have gotten away with it. I believe he has a meeting with Brendan Shannahan.
He didn't get away with it... done for 3 games.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I like to think about the NCAA tournament earlier than anyone, but for right now let's focus on winning and then figure out which ones are good wins. If we win we will have good wins, if we don't then our opponents won't matter too much.

Beat RPI and go into the north country on a high note!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Winchester needed something but given some of the other punishments given out by the nhl it is inconsistent.

As for this RPI game, can we get a power play. A split isn't bad but if we can't score in the power play how is it going to work 5-5
