Colgate 2013-14

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I would respectfully disagree Slapper. Having seen both, this year I would say the BCHL is on par with the USHL.
IMO, you'd be in the minority if you were to poll folks here. I'm no expert, but the general consensus on this site is that USHL is a full step above the rest in N.A...and seems to be proven out given the ratios from the top tier D1 rosters.

EDIT: I have nothing against the BCHL...plenty of great kids at RPI and around the ECAC from there !

I understand your position. It really depends on the year......seeing is believing!!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

anectodal evidence can be misleading, but...last year Yale freshman Stu Wilson (son of the RIT head coach) was a major contributor to the Bulldogs national championship run...again, as a frosh he scored 17 points and has 2 points in two games this year...anybody who watched Yale play last year could see this kid's overall talent level, especially he skating ability...please note: in his last year with Cedar Rapids of the USHL he scored only 26 points on 5 G, 21A with minus 3 plus/minus...I would be hard pressed to imagine ANY forward coming out of the BCJHL with those numbers playing at this level in DI hockey...perhaps, at some point in our hockey future, Colgate will find out about the existence of the USHL...just spiff balling here...

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I will be watching, of course, probably AFTER consuming a bottle of cheap wine...would love to see some goals and no worse than a split this weekend...incremental improvement is what we're after here, I know that...need Lidgett and a few others to start producing...since we're close to sticking a fork in the Browns (and they didn't trade Josh Gordon, thank God) my focus turns to commanders Biddle and DV...

Re: Colgate 2013-14

We need to start strong and play a full sixty minutes like the last two periods against St Clown. Who starts in goal, Finney looked very good.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

I know you are..frankly, the trade of Trent Richardson looks pretty good now...Weeden is not the answer...both were Holgrem selections...this is some talent there and lots of cap space...once a fan, a fan for life...that's just the way it is...would like to see a decent crowd tonight and so far attendance doesn't seem too bad...my guess is Finney starts tonight...

What about Craig Dalrymple, frosh for Ohio State, who played in Powell River of the BCHL?? Last year he had 17 points for Ohio State and by the way, he was a D man!! He only had 49 points coming out of Powell River!!!!

Re: Colgate 2013-14

hear ya, but, as you state, he was a D-men...look I like the BCJHL and wish we had more on our roster...and the overall point is well taken...look at the composition of the high quality DI programs and you will usually see a high % of USHL and BCJHL alums...

It's that first 20 minutes and the first and last 3 minutes of each period that will get ya'. Hope the boys are psyched up for Silver Puck W/E. Looking for 4 pts....3 pts minimum.

We have two first round selections, think a second and a total of "seven" picks in the draft next year. The defense is very good now, Hoyer looked very good. Next year, as a Browns fan we always say "next" year.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

three points would be nice and perhaps necessary until these kids learn to play on the road...hoping Black is available and effective...you can see he's the real deal...

Re: Colgate 2013-14

men against boys...pretty much total domination for three (yes, 'Gate Radio, three) periods...after the first I said to myself, probably 4-1...no, 7-2...we may reach double digit wins this year, but, and let's be honest here, we are no better than a bottom third ATLANTIC hockey program...as far as the players go it's not necessary to name names...I'm sure they're trying...I will say this: to date, the freshmen class looks substandard at best, embarrassing at other times. Frankly, this is like watching a major car accident 7 1/2 years ago and expecting a different result year after year...and virtually all of us on this site have been very careful not to personalize the criticism, especially to the kids. Enough is enough...we may beat Princeton tomorrow - and God I hope we do - but does anybody really think this collection of kids can consistently compete against half-way decent DI programs??? BTW, there are 91 young men on ECAC rosters who came to their respective schools from the USHL...of these 91 Colgate has ONE, yes ONE...we have missed the most fertile recruiting ground for college hockey over the last 8 years - not one year, not two, not five, EIGHT. God forbid we hold anybody accountable for anything...10 freshmen, fine, but perhaps 50% were "body" fills at the last moment...other than some occasional talent we're getting hockey players that NO DI program was really interested in and some of our grant-in-aid awards are simply mind boggling...again, no criticism of the kids themselves...sometimes I wonder why we enshrined DV as King of Hockey at Colgate...it was, at a minimum, very, very premature...

Re: Colgate 2013-14

Early in the season but a bit suprised at the offensive end of the ice. On a seperate note watched a game against Ferris and there was no audio (at least at my end) watched off and on tonight and there was audio and whoever calls your games does a nice job.

Re: Colgate 2013-14

That's a mouthfull Coat. Didn't care for the result tonight. Have to get 2 pts tomorrow. Time to bear down guys and get the W. It's still early.
