Re: Colgate 2012-13

two goals in the last minutes of a period...yes, and this was preceded by opposition ot goals with 10 seconds and 2.5 seconds left in the respective game...when your team scores a TOTAL of 30 even strength goals in 22 league games (1.364 goals/game) these are not good things, are they???

Re: Colgate 2012-13

We may not even get that far if it's frozen.
Good luck 'Gate
Thx Seniors
Spiro for Hobey

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I'd love to take the swimming trunks off for a while, Magoo...I really would...who's in the nets this evening, I wonder...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

would agree...saw video highlights last night and, thought admittedly only a glimpse, Mihalik looked tentative and back in the net...after a solid first 10-12 games Finney has gone south so maybe he's due...hoping to watch it tonight; if nothing else enjoy the Cornwall boys (plus SG) on the PP...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I'll be putting up an alternate stream for tonight's broadcast here a little bit later. It will be my feed taken straight from the rink and then broadcast online. Sorry about the problems from last night. By the time I heard about them, it was too late to do anything.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I had no trouble with WKXZ last night (radio); for those having problems on computer I suggest it....93.9 on dial.

Hope Finney gets the nod tonight; he's due for a good one. No sleep-walking during the first two periods.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Down 2-0 after two. Doesn't look promising... Need to make something happen in the last 20 min.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

thanks TimU, but you're more confident than I am...I wish our seniors well; as a whole they are good kids (as virtually all of DV's kids are)...nonetheless it is hard to name ANY of the eight (Sinz perhaps) who really improved much over the last four years. Last year we were 17-10-3, finish 2-7 and end up 19-17-3...THIS year, even worse...13-9-4, finishing, get this, 1-9, to go 14-18-4...only ONCE in the past 7 years has a 'Gate hockey team finished the season ranked in the top one-half of all DI programs in the country (last year, barely made it)...we have to build off of this year's freshmen class, but I have serious questions if we have the resources (or the real desire) to do so...we can "happy talk" all we want (if we do, most of it should go to SG and his courageous actions), but the reality is very, very disappointing...we need a new commitment from the new AD, the President (good luck, Herbst doesn't know what a puck is) and the Board...and, yes, perhaps new assistant coaches...in prior posts I've listed other areas that we need to address; at this point I'm frankly sick and tired of watching a lot of the college hockey world pass us by while we (at best) stand still...

I understand your frustration, but you guys do have a lot of young talent.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Tough end to a tough season. I am sad it is over! No more trips to Hamilton until October,2013.
Too bad Bourdon couldn't get his 100th!
SG6-impressive!!! I am proud that we share Colgate! Please.....keep up the fight! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
Seniors---thanks for 4 years.....you will soon be a Colgate grad.....you should be proud of yourselves...good luck with your futures.....your Colgate education will serve you well.....it got me where I am today!
Looking forward to next year!

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Warm up your engines, I am cautiously optimistic. We lost our two leading scorers but seem to have some talent in our freshman recruits. The forwards coming in have incredible numbers however the league they played in is supposedly not as strong as the USHL or the BCHL(what other posters have relayed here).

The early word is that they are small but very fast and talented. I'm sure there will be growing pains but hopefully we will be competitive and exciting to watch.

Defense should be talented with Price, Larkin, Sinz(who improved incredibly last year)and Galakos who really surprised me. Two frosh coming in were First team all stars in above league. Should be fine.

Mihalik is solid but not exceptional, we need him to step it up and really have a banner year. It all starts with the goaltending.

We'll know very soon as the scheduling is very tough, right out for two at Miami and then Bowling Green home for two. Interested to her what you think. Get her going !

Thought it would be interesting to look back at Shabby's first post, above. Hopefully the frosh and sophs can use this season's roller-coaster experience to learn what's coming up next year. While we are all frustrated with this year, there is a lot to like in our underclassmen. We need to augment this group with more talent to make any meaningful climb to the top of the league. I see it as an ongoing Three Year Plan. Thanks to the seniors for their efforts, and good luck in what ever life holds after Colgate.

Want to give a final shout out to Gate Radio who does an exceptional job broadcasting. I don't know how he memorizes all those numbers and player's names so quickly; he's very good at his trade. We're lucky to have him doing 'Gate games.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

So I guess Finney wasn't the answer tonight. Apparently neither is Mihalik. Hopefully the goalie we're bring in for next year is. Haven't had a bona-fife top goaltender since Dekanich, which was what, 5 years ago?

I really think one of the key's to resurrecting your program is the replacement of Starr. You have a quality coach, an absolutely beautiful campus and great academics. While Appleton is old.....it has a rustic charm to it and an old time hockey feel to it. Starr has none of that and I really think that hurts and inhibits your coaching staff. If all the talk and noise about a a new arena comes to fruition, I really think that will help in so many area's.
Look at Q Pac. They have one of the most beautiful arena's and a dick for a coach. That combo is working a heck of a lot better than the other way around. I know from first hand accounts the number of recruits we have lost to that program and arena over the last few years and I am sure it is happening to you as well.

Good luck in the future and keep your chin up. We all love our teams and schools and yours is a great one.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

appreciate the comments from our SLU friends...God, have you owned us over the past 5 years...good luck going forward...I've always felt there was a nice bond between the 'Gate and you guys...you love hockey and you're fair and knowledgeable fans...go to the NCAAs and get your boy a Hobey

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I'm sad to see it end early, but mercifully, this season is over.

Best of luck to the eight seniors on the team:
#5 Mike Leidl
#7 Billy Rivellini
#10 Christian Long
#16 Kurtis Bartliff
#17 Robbie Bourdon
#20 Jeremy Price
#24 Nathan Sinz
#27 Thomas Larkin

It's tough to end your careers like this, especially after the playoff runs in 2011 and 2012. Now can we please get at least 2 more recruits for next season? Right now, we only have 7, and we're losing 8 players. If this were to stand as is, we'd be in even MORE roster trouble when compared to this year:
-only 12 forwards, when we usually dress 12
-only 7 defenseman, when we usually dress 6
-only 19 total skaters (not including goaltenders), when we usually dress 18

This is an issue that could plague us next season, despite the returning talent. So hopefully that is an issue that can be rectified going forward. Fortunately we will have depth at the goaltender position. (Yes, Mihalik and Finney both went south towards the end of the year, but then again, so did the whole team...)
