Re: Colgate 2012-13

Another big weekend looming...we need to take care of business and repay Princeton for our earlier loss. We beat Q-Pac earlier and I know we can at home if we play like we did against Dartmouth and Yale ! They're on an unprecedented roll, and would put us in the top sixteen in the PWR for an NCAA berth...a huge game that I can't wait to see. Let's beat Princeton first !!

The RatingsPI could certainly flip, but depending on how other teams do, it could very well go down as well.

Video highlights from Saturday's draw vs. St. Lawrence can be found at the ECAC Website.

If you can, watch Colgate's 3rd goal (the one that made it 3-3). As St. Lawrence was advancing the puck into the Colgate defensive zone, a Colgate player elected to skate to the bench. But then John Lidgett came off the bench "at the right time", received a "head's-up" pass from the Colgate defensive zone and skated in on a breakaway. A bit of a gamble but it got us a point in the standings.

We host the #2 team in the country this weekend. This is a BIG game.

More like the #1 team in the country. This voting just shows you why Austin did not win the Hobey last year. I think this is a prime game for us to get a big W. We beat Q-pac earlier and had a lead on them in their own rink, just need to finish. Now with Finney playing with confidence I almost expect them to pull off a win, at least a tie.

Joe Wilson stripped the puck from the advancing Larrie, and Larkin made the beautiful breakout pass to Lidgett, according to GR. Brilliant play by Lidgett coming off the bench for the breakaway. Wilson was a man possessed in the third period. We will need play like that this Saturday night.

I think it has to do with Yale mostly, who was No. 1 for a great part of 2010-11 and then did not amount to much in the NCAAs as the top seed.

Big weekend ahead for 'gate. I think if they can come out of this weekend with 4 points they will have a really good chance of making the tourney. Gotta get at least 2 points and 3 would be nice. Little worried about tonight though, hope the team isn't looking too ahead to tomorrow's game.

I agree about being worried. I can't say I think it'll happen, but still, beating Princeton is more important to the season than Quinnipiac

Re: Colgate 2012-13

It depends on whether you are talking about the league or the NCAA. In their bid for an NCAA tourney bid the QU game is more significant, but since QU is so far out ahead of the pack for playoff positioning a princeton win would have been nice. If I remember the outcomes correctly Colgate loses tiebreakers with Princeton, SLU and Cornell (should not be important) [with 1 loss to Union, RPI and QU] and win them against Clarkson [with 1 win against Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard and Brown]

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Is it me or does Princeton just have our number recently? 'Gate Radio mentioned that Princeton only dressed 16 skaters and had a forward dress as their backup goaltender. And guess what? They double us up on the scoreboard. I'm hoping this was just one bad game that we got out of our system tonight.

It won't get easier tomorrow. Quinnipiac defeated Cornell and is still unbeaten in league play.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

unfortunate loss at home, goose egg on the pp, being leap-frogged in the standings. their goalie made some good saves but our passing was all over the place. not all his fault but finney's gaa on the rise lately. hope we can rebound a bit against qpac

Power play was the area I thought they'd really miss Spiro, and it showed. No real urgency at times either, sat behind the net way too long waiting to set up the rush. Maybe they were looking ahead to tomorrow, who knows, but this was one that got away.

I'm definitely more focused on the ECAC race. I think a good finish there, at least a home series, would set us up for a potential run to Atlantic City, without which we're not getting into the tournament. I don't see this team pushing high enough in the PWR without a big playoff run to think too much about those implications. Any way to push for additional playoff success is the focus

Losing a 4-point game like they did tonight, of course, hurts the chances for both. They looked a bit disjointed in the parts I saw, and Radio made a great comment about bad body language following the goals. At this point, I hope they were looking ahead to the Q-cats, because they're going to need to now...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

yes, Princeton has pretty much had our number for 20 years...no much else to say...as far as looking ahead goes? It would be a sad joke if a team that is 5-6-3 and is playing a team that was essentially even with them in the standings, would "look ahead" to the #1 team in the country...lack of urgency, lack of intensity...not good...and let's stop moaning about losing Spiro...we hope and pray he returns to full health, but as far as injuries et al goes Princeton skated 16 last night...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

If I am reading the results correctly, three of QPAC's last 6 losses were to Colgate. Your 2-1 series win last year begins to look very impressive in light of QPAC's success this year. All of you attending tonight's game are in for a fun time. I saw QPAC beat Yale last week. This team is no fluke. They are built like a pro team;; 2 very skilled lines that forecheck and drive the net as well as I have seen a college team do that in years. Other teams should learn from this--it is OK to forecheck. You can't live in constant fear that the opponent might get an odd-man rush against you. Then their third and fourth lines are very physical. Plus they have the one thing you must have to be great--a great goalie.

But obviously Colgate can beat them and I wish you luck. Your defense and goaltending will have to be exceptional. Your young forwards can score on anyone--and will be major forces in this league for the next 3 years. When the new rink is built Colgate should be a perennial top 20 team.

I can't underatand why these boards don't have more discussion of the precipitous fall of Cornell. I tried to get some discussion of this on the Union board but no one bit. Cornell should blow away the ECAC competition year after year with their history, atmosphere, great crowds, location and Ag School. But they have become mediocre because the coach didn't adapt to the changes in the game. The forwards in D1 now are way too skilled for any team to rely completely on defense and hope to win 1-0. The forwards today are going to score no matter who you put on D and in the goal. But Cornell still tries to grind the opponent to a pulp and then hope for a lucky break that leads to a goal. So now, no self-respecting talented forward has any interest in going to Cornell and playing that awful style of play--the top guys won't go there anymore no matter how awesome the game atmosphere. I predict Cornell remains mediocre until a coach arrives who undertands the modern game.

Sorry to pollute your board with a Cornell rant. But they don't have their own for some reason.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

If they can change a few things from last night, it's gonna be a game. Finney didn't get a whole lot of support, not a whole lot of traffic in front of the Princeton net last night, and there was a general lack of urgency at times. Maybe it is just me, but last night seemed to be way too much of "let's work it around behind the net and on the sideboards for a while, and then hope that we can set up a one-timer". Maybe they were looking forward to tonight, don't know.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

frankly more unimpressed with Colgate than impressed with Q-Pac...they were beatable tonight and we didn't get it done...horrible passing, lack of discipline in the defensive zone, and, as usual, stupid penalties...I feel for Finney; how many times was he left out to dry...there are numerous players on this team - none that shall be mentioned - that are virtual turnover machines
