Re: Colgate 2012-13

Told you. We're always good for at least 3 goals at home against Yale. Thing is, with the players they've had the past 5 years, they've usually been good for 5-6. Great win tonight which makes a potential top 4 finish even more crucial as we're simply an incredible team at Starr this year.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

All four goals from frosh and sophomores as well as ten of the eleven points.

Not to mention the freshman goalie. Does anyone else think he has a chance to be the best 'gate goalie since Dekanich??? GA in the last four games: 2, 2, 1, 1; all four games in league play and two against ranked opponents.

Oh, and what a difference Goulakos seems to make on the power play. Let's hope he can stay healthy! As Green Coat is wont to observe our roster depth is always thin . . .

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Wow, after twin 2-1 defeats in the Capital District, we come home and sweep Brown and Yale. No, we come home, squeak by Brown, then upset Yale!

I'm hoping Jeremy Price didn't get injured tonight. In the 3rd period 'Gate Radio mentioned that he hurt his hand and skated off to the bench; his name wasn't mentioned after that. Given how thin our roster is we can't afford to have anyone get hurt. Nathan Sinz was out a few games earlier in the year and then Goulakos was out last weekend; while we have Brendan Corcoran and Mike Leidl ready to fill in if need be, we don't want to lose a key player for the rest of the season to an injury.

Also, as it stands, next year will be worse as far as roster size goes. 8 incoming players replace 8 seniors on the roster, but while 4 forwards and 4 defensemen graduate, we have 4 forwards, 3 defensemen, and 1 goalie coming in. This means we'll only have 20 (non-goalie) skaters when we usually dress 18. With only 2 players graduating in 2014, my guess is that the "roster depth" issue will be resolved in time for the 2014-15 season, but still, that's a long way away...

Finally, who'da thunk that we'd sweep Yale and Brown out of Starr Rink, but the same two teams would beat Cornell at Lynah Rink? AND with Brown shutting them out there??? Also, 2 points separate 6th from 11th. Just another typical year in the ECAC...

Congrats on the four pointer.

Congrats on the four pointer.

Great game and weekend for 'gate. Brings them back into play with the Pairwise. Couple of things:

1. Very tightly reffed game. Couldn't believe the calls they made for roughing etc.. for standard after the whistle play. Then of course that terrible premature whistle late in the third.

2. Great to see the team continue to put pressure on after going up 2-1, which then made it 3-1. Too often teams go on defense after a goal lead in the third and it ends up costing them. Glad to see we kept the pressure up.

3. Surprised that was Lough's first goal. That was a phenomenal move he made on that defender and then to score...looked like he had scored a lot before.

4. Met Vaughn's high school buddies at Rusch's beforehand who were in town up from Ottawa, funny guys.

Tightly reffed, or poorly reffed, it's a toss-up. Maybe they thought that by clamping down they would curb some of the post-whistle stuff, I don't know. That early whistle in the 3rd was awful, but they did redeem themselves by not reversing the no-goal call at the end of the 2nd. I was right there in the corner, and it looked, and sounded like the horn went before the puck went in, and more importantly, they were still knocking at it as the horn went.

2 games with decent crowds too, though Friday night, no one was watching all the kids, and they were way too bouncy. Today, the student section at least clamped down on themselves when the warning for the chuck-a-pucks being thrown onto the ice was given. Good weekend, and now follow it up on the road.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Congrats, Raiders...keep climbing that PWR ladder. Mihalek is good but always thought we needed better; Finney is the quarterback we've been waiting for and has really ignited this team. The frosh talent is unparalleled.

Here's to at least a split on the road next weekend in the North Country...Appleton is a House of Horrors and Cheel is the Emerald City.

Any video highlights from Yale?

Re: Colgate 2012-13

When they skate like last night they can play with "anybody". They were bad against Brown, hard to fathom. So fun to watch, Dartmouth, Q-Pac and now Yale, we have the talent to beat the best. It seems like we play "up or down" to the talent level of our opponents.

I think the "rust" of two games has worn off, just in time. Goulakis looked a little more like himself last night, what a difference for our PP. We are very balanced scoring, seventh in the country and not a single player in the top twenty five...I like it !

Finney is stronger every game and the PP and PK have been superb ! It all starts with the goaltending and special teams win games...a good sign. It's all good !!!

Agreed. I think that if we sweep our last two home weekends and get splits on the road (mainly wins at Brown and Clarkson) we'll get a bye having obtained 25 pts. That would mean, however, beating Quinnipiac, thus 3 points next weekend would be HUGE.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

To be quite honest I didnt think that Colgate played that horribly against Brown. I thought that for the majority of the game they controlled they play. I did think that the last 10 minutes of play they were just trying to hold on for dear life and couldnt do anything right.

The problem with scoring against brown is that they kept trying to beat the goalie high on the glove side and he had an OUTSTANDING glove friday night. I was impressed with the play on saturday night, particularly in the third period.

I think our defense "rebounds" from turnovers very well this year; there have been a few 2 on 1's but not as many as in years past. Lastly, Finney has done a great job, and has me believing that if we score 2 goals we can win any game.

Nothing much to add. Wish I had been there.. (car malfunction!) Missed one of the best games of the year. Hope playing "up or down" to the level of competition does not come back to bite us. Great teams (i.e. Q-Pac) play solid games all through the schedule.

Just want to make a shoutout to Gate Radio. John has done an expert job thru the season, and for those of us with car problems, he's the next best thing to being at Starr. Enjoy his play-by-play and insight into the team(s) and what's going on off the ice...plus interviews with DV and the players. Hope he's signed on for the few more seasons at least :)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Thoughts and prayers to Spiro Goulakos, his family, and the Raiders. Really terrible news but it's encouraging that the outlook is positive.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Like the last few posters, I want to wish all the best to Goulakos in his treatment and hopefully speedy recovery.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Such incredibly sad news. I have every confidence that Spiro will "return to full strength" very soon. He will be sorely missed!!!

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Spiro...... Just like the confidence you bring to us fans every game. Keep Playing hard & you will win this one too.
