Re: Colgate 2012-13

I again reiterate...Goulakis is the key on our PP and that is where our success was coming from. At one point we were 9-16 on the PP. We are a different team without him. He's day to day right now !

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I'm with the "let's not panic yet" camp

Tough losses, sure, but look at this team's home/road splits. 8-3 at Starr vs. 3-6-2 everywhere else (the 3 were 2x at UMass and Qpac at Cape Cod). This team plays better at home than on the road. The sweep is disappointing, and may yet haunt them come playoffs, but they still have half their remaining schedule at home. Any improvement on the road would be helpful

Let's see how they look at home (with Goulakos maybe?). Lose to Brown and I'll start to worry for the remainder of the season

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Brown is not a bad team, but at home we should beat them. I agree rain..we need at least two points this weekend.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

We're playing at home this weekend; I think we need at least 3 points. Brown is a winnable game - this is one of two league home games that we tend to always win (Union being the other), but look at the following history between the Raiders and Bears at Starr Rink:

2005-06 season: won 5-2, game played on a Saturday night
2006-07 season: 2-2 tie, game played on a Friday night
2007-08 season: won 5-0, game played on a Saturday night
2008-09 season: lost 4-1, game played on a Friday night
2009-10 season: won 6-2, game played on a Saturday night
2010-11 season: lost 5-2, game played on a Friday night
2011-12 season: won 7-6, game played on a Saturday night

We tend to dominate the home games against Brown on Saturday nights, but have trouble against them on Friday nights. And guess what? We're playing the Bears on Friday this season! Do I see a trend here?

Can we win this? Yes. But will it be easy? No. I'm hoping Goulakos will be back. If he's day-to-day then it'll be a game-time decision.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

FWIW: Just off the top of my head I tend to think we don't have our best results at home on Friday nights. I think it's difficult to make the transition from academics to games in a few hours. Whereas by Saturday the players are into the "weekend thing" and concentrate/focus more; they also have all day to plot strategy and get up for that night's game. This is purely anecdotal thinking on my part - have not gone back to 2005 to look at the actual results. I'll leave that to Rainman :)

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Stayin home tonight watching on tv, my good friend Mayf Plesniarski passed away and the calling hours are in the am. For any old guys he was the owner of John's Shoe shop in town for about 50 years. His son Jimmy is the small guy with the white hair in the penalty box for years .He will be missed !

Will also keep an eye on Cornell--Yale on NBC Sports network.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Very sorry to hear of Mayf's passing. What a wonderful guy he was. And John's Shoe Shop -- what a place that was. It was Hamilton's sports equipment headquarters, especially for hockey. My sympathies go out to the Plesniarski family. Mayf will surely be missed.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

I remember John's Shoe Shop well; they don't make places like that anymore. My sympathies to the family. Will listen to GR tonite while watching the Cornell-Yale game with the sound off. (..no TW here). Hope Cornell takes some of the jump out of the Eli; they've been playing great lately. Sullivan picks us over Bruno; hope he's right.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

thank God for the win, but let's face it, pretty ugly and, again, uninspiring...when Finney is your best player game-after-game you've got some issues...and we have them...

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Third period didn't sound good. After watching the Cornell-Yale game, I think we'll have our hands full tomorrow night.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

We had trouble staying out of the box tonight, and in the 3rd period it looked like we were hanging on to dear life, but a win is a win.

It doesn't get any easier tomorrow night with Yale coming into our barn.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Ugly win but at least we got a badly needed two points. Yale looked tremendous...we have to play better tonight or we're in trouble. Liking Finney more "every" game, he doesn't flop all over the place and really controls rebounds better and smothers shots in his chest. We have been flat our last three games, "one" non PP goal in our last three isn't going to hold up. Five goals allowed in our last three is encouraging for the D.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

need to step it up tonight, keep it competitive, who knows...hopefully the jets will be on and we'll see an entertaining game...a point of two would be great, but let's start by playing well (something we haven't seen recently)...is Goulakis out for tonight???

Re: Colgate 2012-13

wonderful...not the same team I've seen in the past three games...speed, speed, speed...pretty good job of D-men carrying the puck out of our zone...another great effort in goal...good to see LIgett get on the board...boys, you've made my weekend...
