Re: Colgate 2012-13

Even though we were playing a rather "soft" opponent, we start the Year of '13 with a win! Congrats to both Nathan Sinz and Daniel Gentzler - each of them scored a goal for the first time in their careers.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Well that was pretty brutal to watch tonight. I actually started feeling bad for SH as early as the third goal. I could tell this team has just been frustrated all year and kind of chalked it up after they went down 3. That just looked like a varsity vs. jv game all night. Week off and then hopefully we can get wins 3 out of the next 4 games.

Yeah, watching that, I kind of got the feeling of what it must be like if you score tickets to see Alabama take on the Little Sister's of the Poor JV squad the first week of college football season. Everyone was kind of out of it, PA guy started really downplaying the goal announcements starting at about 5-0, and so it goes.

Now, there is one challenge out of this- remember what happened after they shellacked Niagara 10-2? 3 losses in a row. I would guess that Vaughan is not gonna let them enjoy this weekend too much, because, and call me crazy if you must, I'm fairly certain that RPI and Union aren't gonna be quite as much of rollover opponents.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

These two wins would have more meaning if the ECAC schedule continued next weekend. Now, with 12 days off, I'm not sure having playing SH will give us the advantage we could use vs. RPI and Union.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Does anyone have a game worn Colgate hockey jersey that they are looking to sell? I am a Colgate alum trying to buy a few Colgate jerseys.
Thanks!
Brent

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Well, going into this weekend we were heavily favored to win these games ... on paper. But I wasn't expecting a pair of blowout wins. It's unfortunate that the scheduling quirks have us on another layoff, especially since its nothing but league games from here on out. I'm sure Coach Vaughan will keep them focused, though.

Brent - I believe after every season the jerseys of each players are sold to the public for $75 (without the name plate - just the jersey number). Last season I was given an email address to contact so I could get my own jersey, but since I never got around to doing it, I can't be of much help to you now.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Not sure if it has been mentioned before, but Kyle Baun's grandfather, Bobbie Baun, played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 60's and was instrumental in one of their Stanley Cup wins. Cool!
Happy New Year, all. GO 'GATE!!!!

Good post CU13; in fact I saw Bobbie play a few times when the Maple Leafs played the Rangers at MSG. He was a very talented player. It's wonderful to see Kyle in a zone where he's contributing to all our wins lately. Also good to see Finney putting together a nice run and giving our D and PK some added strength. PP has been doing much beter this year - like night and day. Hope this layoff - and offensive output over the weekend - does not change the determination and concentration of the team.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

For those who are interested, the ECAC block schedule for the 2013-14 season has been released. I won't get into the details about it but there's some good news and bad news related to it:

The Good News: we have an "open" weekend in February 2014, so we'll most likely see the Cornell home-and-home series return to its usual "down-the-stretch" part of the regular season!

The Bad News: barring a playoff meeting this season, Colgate and Cornell will not play against each other at all during the 2013 calendar year. Which is rather unfortunate, considering 13 is a lucky number for Colgate.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Happy '13 all :)

Nice to see the resounding wins against SHU. Beat the teams you should and all that. I am most curious to see how they respond down the stretch not only as the meaningful games increase, but how much, if any, the long season takes its toll. Hopefully my schedule has cleared up a bit for this coming semester, so I'll be able to catch a few more games

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Did anyone else hear the Colgate Hockey / Terry Slater reference on the nationally televised game between Harvard and BU?

I really wish Colgate played this weekend. Although we are all aware that 'gate isn't going to keep up the 15 goals a weekend pace; they could have benefited from the momentum.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Missing Gate hockey this weekend, tons of hockey on tv at least. Union vs Princeton on NBC sports network at 7:30.

What are people's thoughts about splitting up the Cornell series? I noticed Dartmouth and Harvard do this which gives them less down time in between weeks. For example what if we played them once back in November, and then again once this weekend? I have only been following it for about 3 years so don't know if that's too much tradition being broke or what.

Personally I have no problem with that, but I know some posters like the back-to-back arrangement. If it would give us a game on a bye weekend - like this weekend - I'm all for it. Unfortunately the schedule makers don't always cooperate.

Not to hijack the thread, but saw the Union-P'ton game last night, and the Dutchmen looked very tough. Their PP seems to be clicking. I think most of us will concede first place to QU, but Union is making a statement to at least be in the top four. Saw the Harvard win over BU on Wed.; we need to be worried about the Crimson; despite being behind us in the league standings they may be turning things around pronto, as evidenced by Donato's quotes in the recent USCHO bog. Our trip to Harvard/Dartmouth in Feb may be key.

I don't mind splitting up the games, but this weekend wouldn't have worked for a Colgate-Cornell series (or even just a single game), because the students are on break from both schools. Cornell also has this weekend off, and chances are that the home-and-home would have been this weekend if the students from both schools were on campus.

Meanwhile, RPI became the first team not to lose to Quinnipiac in league play, and Union found a way to win at Princeton last night. Our games against these two teams next week will not be easy.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

It's been too long with too little hockey. Let the second half of the ECAC begin! Tough weekend upcoming . . .

Ditto that! It's a shame we couldn't even get a scrimage this weekend with Hamilton College, Morrisville, UC, etc....anything would be better than nothing...LOL

Re: Colgate 2012-13

Colgate was originally supposed to host Vermont this weekend at Starr Rink as a pay back for the trip that Colgate took to UVM last Thanksgiving.

When the Hockey East block schedule came out, Vermont was scheduled against UMass Lowell on the 12th. So, the Colgate-UVM game was pushed back to next season and then Colgate added Niagara (to make up for the lost home date) and that game was played in October. I would imagine Colgate will make a return trip to Lewiston next season.

Not much that Colgate could've done.

The best way to look at things would be that Colgate has had a chance to get completely rested and healthy for the final seven-week stretch run of 14 games. I would say that's better than playing 9-10 weeks in a row without any time off to heal up the bumps and bruises that accumulate over the course of a season.

Re: Colgate 2012-13

We are 5-0 and 7-1-1 in last nine, ended 2012 on a miniroll. I just hope we're not a little rusty for this weekend. RPI has played a tremendous schedule competively and is a good team, there are no gimmes in the ECAC this year. Just hoping we play like we were playing !!
