So India is just baking this week. Straight out of opening scene of “ministry for the future.”

Mauna Loa also recorded co2 levels above 422 today for first time

Renewable electricity met 100% of California's demand for the first time on Saturday, environmentalists said, much of it from large amounts of solar power produced along Interstate 10, an hour east of the Coachella Valley.

While partygoers celebrated in the blazing sunshine at the Stagecoach music festival, energy demand statewide hit 18,672 megawatts at 2:45 p.m. local time, and 37,172 megawatts were available to meet it. The power came from renewables, according to a continuous tracker provided by California Independent System Operator, or CAISO, a nonprofit that oversees the state's bulk electric power system and transmission lines.

Solar power provided 12,391 megawatts – two-thirds of the amount needed. The milestone lasted almost 15 minutes before edging down to about 97% renewables.

"Early indications are we may have hit a new record for the amount of renewables serving load, but we will need time to verify the numbers," CAISO spokeswoman Anne Gonzales said.

Environmentalists who've pushed for years for all of California's power to come from renewables were jubilant as they watched the tracker edge to 100%.

If only they would have read this forum then concerned posters could have let them know this was impossible.

(The missing paragraph of the USA Today story)

... then darkness set in, the solar panels quit producing, there was no large scale energy storage for excess (excess, what excess?) produced during the day, and the nuclear, coal, and nat gas plants charged everyones' iPhones while they slept. The end.

VW electric car needs 13 hours for 650 kilometers – without heating

So the trip turned into a long winter trip, which she won't soon forget. In order to make electric cars suitable for long-distance journeys, scientists are researching an electric car battery in which should ensure a longer range*. Of course, Lisa Brack had nothing of the innovation on her long tour - except maybe at least warm thoughts.

From the story:
650 km == 400 miles (roughly a day trip to Bismarck for me)
0 to -5 C == 32 to 23 F (that's not cold ;) )

We need to improve energy storage tech, both mobile and large scale.

I've been following the production of an all electric semi-truck by a couple guys on TikTok. They formed "Edison Motors" because they're "stealing Tesla's ideas."

The premise is they want to make semi-trucks that are miniature train locomotives, because locomotives are diesel powered generators that power fully electric motors. For the prototype, he's taking an old 60s Peterbilt, gutting it, installing a diesel generator, electric drive motors, and batteries to prove that it's capable.

This is where EV (imo) should be headed for pickup trucks and semis.

The owner was also talking about how these trucks could be beneficial during storms where small towns lose power. A couple of these trucks can keep the local power grid going until power lines are fixed. Kinda like how a Quebec city drove a train down main street after an ice storm broke the city connection to the power grid, and thr locomotive powered the city for days.

50 million humans live in a biological niche that can support 50 thousand.

My dad retired in 86, he spent a lot of his time after retirement doing research on Soil and Water Conservation. He talked about how the he thought the West was screwed way back then. Just a matter of time in his opinion. Most of been that Cornell education, right Kep : )

All the morons moving to Nevada and Arizona aren’t helping. Fires will chase more out of CA

There are people not moving to Florida? News to me. Check this shit out (right around the corner from me):

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/...ssage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare

in case you don’t want to click: 3 bed, 2 bath house built in the 60s with low ceilings, small rooms and no closet space. Sold 11/30/20 for $365K. Current Zillow estimate: $553K. 52% in 18 months for a relatively crappy house. And this is typical for the area. Oh, and it’s 1/4 mile from the ocean and only ~20 ft above sea level.
