Climate Change 3: Whatever you do don't call it a twatwaffle

Re: Climate Change 3: Whatever you do don't call it a twatwaffle

I'm willing to pay an extra $25 a month. Have been for the last 25 years.

Absolutely. It wouldn't even be noticeable.

One of my roles in life makes me intimately aware of the public's concerns about electric rates. I'm on the oversight board that sets rates for the power company that serves my home and a lot of this region.

If I voted to add a $25 "green energy fee" to everyone's monthly bill there'd be pitchforks and torches outside the offices. Just the vote, not the actual first bill, would cause significant reaction. This is direct feedback at meetings with members.

I guess you guys are much more altruistic.

Your post makes me sad, angry, and depressed.

Everyone I know has the same opinion...including conservatives. Maybe the people you talk to are just cheap *******s who are too stupid to understand.

And even the ones who supposedly you represent that would be all upset, would get over it in 2 months when they noticed their bill didnt actually change all that much. People always whine and complain about everything until they have something new to whine and complain about. Everyone knows that, you and the company you work for are just too chickenchit to do what is right.

Call the fee something else if it is really going to get them to picket your office. Since we know who you are talking about we know it isnt the money it is the name. (like the jackholes who dont tip because restaurants charge a fee to offset the new wage rules) We know they arent winning any intelligence contests. So find a way around it like everyone else does. Takes all of 20 minutes. Of course that would require thinking...

When your bill today is $80-90, you won't notice when someone jacks it to $105-115?

We've made green energy initiatives and investments, but can't find members willing to buy in. (Want to buy 25% of a solar farm?)

You're both right (and wrong)

People think they're being screwed by things like energy efficiency charges. "I didn't get a new furnace in the last 20 years, why am I paying for Billy Bob's?" Never mind that for every dollar they subsidize Billy Bob, they're saving $1.20 in generation costs. They'd rather pay the $1.20 to their utility than give a lesser amount to "those people."

Battery storage will make green energy base load acceptable within the next 25 years, and since solar and wind are already cost competitive, the green energy surcharge won't be necessary. Hell, if you properly allocated carbon costs today, a green surcharge wouldn't be necessary.

You shouldn't make green energy an optional program, just add it to your generation mix and put it into base rates.

No because prices fluctuate. Good lord every bill I have goes up and down. Energy goes up and down between winter and spring. How stupid are the people you deal with?

Oh wait...they probably believe you are helping them by preventing EMPs too

Right. The ultimate way around it is to just hike up the rate whatever it will cost and not mention why. The 5 people who care and notice can pound sand. The vast majority have no idea what the various fees on their bills are for. I would think someone on the "oversight board" would understand that.

I agree, except I've stopped using the word "battery", I'm just saying "storage" (to unlock the chemical storage mindset). And I think it'll be under 25 years.

You sure have a knack for condescension toward folks you've never met.

Yes I do...when they are so blind, selfish and dumb they cant figure out basic math they are deserving too. I am sure they have no issue judging me back either.

Hey! Get your own shtick!

Hadn't seen this site before. Good stuff, and simple enough for mot people to understand. Visual display of data is an art.

Trust me in my group of friends I am the Kepler  ;)

(ask Deutsche Gopher Fan she has known me for 20 years  )

In my group of friends I'm the calm centrist.

I'm not kidding. They're about 70% pinwheel-eyed socialists and 30% pinwheel-eyed free market anarchists.

I come here for sanity.
