Clarkson coaching search

Re: Clarkson coaching search

I am sure Rolly is the favorite. I too am shocked at how slow this whole process has moved. There are also some assistant coaching positions open...Princeton (2), Providence (1), Union (1). They need to hire a current head guy or an associate. This program has been a mess since they framed Mark Morris:)

SLU also has an opening for Asst coach with the departure of Bobby Prier.

Re: Clarkson coaching search

I'm curious why the USA hockey personnel are not satisfied with their current positions.

That's actually a pretty good question, especially considering the fact the NDP has finally begun to show something for all the time and effort that has been put into it thus far.

But I think the nature of coaching for USAH is that it is as much a springboard as anything else. The program gets quality coaching talent, the coaches gain experience and establish a reputation for themselves. It can be a win-win situation, with both sides amicable when someone moves on.

Re: Clarkson coaching search

Hockeymascot.......then why not bring Mark Morris back? Has enough of the air-head administration that "wasted" him left Clarkson. (I wouldn't blame Mark for a moment if
he'd laugh in their face if they approached him......isn't he already in a better place?)

Money makes people funny. :D
According to USAH's tax filing, RR made a bit north of $114K in direct and a bit north of $28K in indirect compensation.

Guidestar is down for the weekend, so I can't tell you what Mancini made.

I don't know if the brass at Clarkson have enough brass to bring Mark back. Maybe it isn't brass they would need, it would be intelligence. The Clarkson hockey program has been fractured since he left. The admin did not look good when they did not support Mark during the framing fiasco. Now you have the current admin giving George a verbal green light and then taking his legs out at the last hour.

In my opinion, the admin could save some face by doing the right thing and at least asking Morris if he would be interested in coming back. Heck he might even accept, although he is in a better place now. However, he has been living away from his home, and his wife is about to become Judge in Massena, therefore she is not going anywhere.

It doesn't seem like Clarkson is very efficient in their hiring process, let alone exercising any sense of intelligence within the admin.:)

Great post. Why they waited as long as they did to part ways with Roll is puzzling...jeapordizing recruiting even more.

Morris has done nothing but win since he left CCT. If Carey's article is accurate and Morris is indeed a candidate, they need to take a hard look at bringing him back. He loves the school and the community and CCT fans wouldn't have worry about Mark jumping at the first sexy D1 offer that comes down the pike... That's just my take, and I'm an RPI fan ! Haa

Re: Clarkson coaching search

RPI found a coach. The Fridge had a 20+ season win followed by 2 losing season's in a row and you blew him out. So, get over the amnesia. Job security? Well that is called a contract, get it?

Kill the strawman!

Re: Clarkson coaching search

The coaching positions at the USA Hockey program in Ann Arbor develops coaching talent just like they do players for the next level. I don't know ofr sure, but I'll bet that
a D1 coaching job pays a lot more than USA Hockey is paying. It's a great place to coach hi-pot players and get maximum exposure. Even the top jobs, like Jeff Jackson & Bob Mancin had at the start, were springboards to higher paying coaching jobs.

Re: Clarkson coaching search

Frank Anzalone brings so much to the table. Won 1 and responsible for 2 NCAA championships, coached professional hockey, junior hockey, the guy has done it all and has the respect of his peers and his players.

If Clarkson wants a proven winner, they know the right choice, Frank Anzalone.

Did you check Anzalone's record in his more recent foray into college hockey?

I believe it to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 32-97 (.315)...in his 2nd run at LSSU. Add to that he is 67 yrs. old and has spent the last 4 seasons in the hockey hot beds of Johnstown and Quad City and I'm not seeing how that translates into results in the ECAC...:D

You don't understand what a mess of a program (one that he built and led to 3 NCAA Championships) he inherited. If you don't want a proven winner than you will look elsewhere, if you want a championship team you will chose a man and legend in the coaching ranks, who was won many, Frank Anzalone.

Re: Clarkson coaching search

Looks like we have the two finalists as they are the only ones coming to Potsdam to interview.....

Ron Rolston - yesterday
Casey Jones - tomorrow

Ugghhhhh....and the man they called Crybaby Casey while at Cornell might be in the North Country.

As for Anzelone, he won at LSSU in the first go around which is not easy. That place is more in the middle of no where that Potsdam, but that was a long time ago in a totally different landscape and LSSU is not quite of the academic standards of Clarkson. I think his time came and went a long time ago...like when his team stole the rings off SLU's fingers!:mad:
