Christ is born

Re: Christ is born

It doesn't bother me the way it apparently does foxton, but I do honestly wonder why you feel the need to post these every year. As proselytizing goes, this is certainly as inoffensive as anything, but it still feels a little off or out of place given the forum involved (pun not intended)
I don't have a problem with this thread every yr. Foxton's knee jerk reaction every yr is a bit infantile. No need to go to such extremes to disrespect others unless you disrespect yourself more.

We have threads for Fantasy FB, Fantasy Bsb, Ads that bother us, what you ate for lunch and who wees in the shower. For those of us that celebrate it is a way to connect. For those who don't they don't need to come into the thread. I would have a problem if it popped up when you signed in but it doesn't do that. You have to actively seek it out for it to bother you.

Re: Christ is born

As a Jew, I try to refrain from getting into religious discussions here. Like political discussions, I feel that they are a waste of time. .

Ralph not posting somewhere is a miracle!

Incidentally, I think politics has replaced sports as the biggest waste of time to argue about on USCHO. By a wide margin.

Others fit the bill of a discussion, though, to some extent or another...the only polite responses to the initial post here is either a "+1" type post or ignoring it. Which I have no problem doing the latter, but I still don't get the point of proselytizing on an internet hockey board.

You make a good point about the redundency of the topic, I had never looked at it that way before. My take is Christmas and Easter are annual events, so why not annually throw the topic out there and see who wants to post? There also is presidence with other anniversary treads. I know I'll get some unreasonable emotional responses, but I welcome the opprotunity to discuss my Faith with believers and unbelievers. Historically, there have been some very interesting and mature discussions that have resulted and that's impressive because this topic has the potential to be a mega-firestorm. I don't take anything personally on this board or anywhere, without discussions, life would be a pretty big drag.

I am really excited to see Ralph Baer, who is Jewish, posted on here. I've been in a long running Old Testament Bible class @ Church where I'm plowing new ground, it would be neat to get his/their perspective on some interesting events/themes in the Old Testament, but I haven't had a chance to get my thoughts together yet.

Which is exactly what most non believers would say. Or atheists. Now, if this was done excessively, then it may be valid to call it "proselytizing". This is the Christmas season, so it is quite appropriate. Same as any thread at Easter. If it touches one person where they reflect on their life and it creates a little hope, then it has dones its purpose.

Until it becomes a violation of the board, or if the board becomes some agent of the repressive secular government, or if the internet becomes regulated- as the UN allegedly wants to do, it's free game- which is precisely what a "cafe" is for, btw. I mean, what leswp1 said fer goodness sakes.

edit: that goes for any threads that our Jewish or Muslim etc. want to post for their religious holidays. I mean... we have two "Festivus" threads on the board. :p
