Question for you cinnamon roll: You watched A LOT of QMJHL games. Is it my imagination or was Tournas really hot and cold this season? I never drank the Kool aid when it came to his phony baloney NAHL numbers. So I was thrilled when he got off to a good start in the Q. Just seemed like he kind of slowed a bit as the season went along. Same thing in the playoffs. Am I overthinking it?

he could be streaky but that’s normal for goal scorers at any level. he was always fairly dangerous. even thought he scored less in the playoffs, he was still producing plenty. for comparison, Maxim Massé (UMass) scored 51 goals in the regular season but he only had 6 goals in the playoffs like Tournas. Still contributed elsewhere, his game got more well-rounded as the season went along. a current UNH example from a similar path is Sam Oliver, who can be streaky as well. if you were to worry about something... his ability to handle physicality has been an ongoing concern. it's hard to get through that in junior though, college is where he'll be able to make more progress.

tl;dr: you are probably overthinking it. even in the NHL goal scorers can be streaky. im sure it won't stop you from worrying, which is how being a fan works :)

speaking of UNH...

08 F Ilya Kolmakov commits to UNH, played for Sherbrooke Phoenix. 2027 Draft eligible, 48 points in 62 games. he moved to North America in 2024-25, played for Detroit Little Caesers 16U AAA with a brief callup to Fargo. He was drafted by Sherbrooke in the CHL Import Draft and was 3rd in scoring for the Phoenix.

Thanks for the input

cinnamoroll, wondering if you have heard anything on Rylan Gould with Everett? Have heard rumblings on the socials that he may have committed to the Bemidji State, but am not seeing anything concrete. Thanks!

BLB GM says Mateo Nobert visiting some schools before deciding if he's going NCAA or returning to the Q, 07 F, 25 3rd round pick.

I liked this quote from Providence coach Nate Leaman about the reputation of CHL players people had coming into this season, and some still do. Basically- In his experience, they loved the college life and being a part of not just their team but the school itself. He also found that the ego concerns were largely untrue, they just wanted to win. A lot of people have echoed his thoughts or heard similar things from other coaches. They're just like any other young hockey player being recruited, except a lot of them just never had this option beforehand.

The point he's making is a big part of why I started this thread in the first place. There are a lot of misconceptions about CHL players in the US and seeing the way they were talked about just didn't feel right, and often came from people who had never seen or attended a CHL game.

I think a lot of those misconceptions will wane as more players from the US head to the CHL. I think a lot of that stemmed from Canadians bashing US Junior/College hockey, and Americans viewing players that went the CHL route thinking they were "too good" for the HS/Junior/College route.

college hockey is developing a counter proposal to the new NCAA eligibility rules and they've gotten the sign-off and support from a Lot of entities. the idea is to start the clock at college enrollment, no later than age 19.

In an unusual move, the entire hockey ecosystem has signed on to the proposal, including — USA Hockey, the USHL, CHL, NCAA Commissioners Association, College Hockey Coaches Association, and even the National Hockey League. This has included conversations between high-level NHL representatives and high-level NCAA representatives.

"(The CHL) was happy to amplify the message," Hockey East commissioner Steve Metcalf said. "They felt similarly to the USHL — it's impacting an ecosystem that is working just fine."

The new proposal is in the hands of the NCAA, while the commissioners continue to rally support, make phone calls, and lobby the Division I Council.

I don't like either proposal. The motives are not clear but can be construed to pull up the ladder on older CHL players. There's nothing wrong with a player deciding to go the CHL route for a few years and then deciding to try US college hockey when he turns 21 or even a bit older. With both proposals such a player would only have a few years of eligibility instead of 4 full years. They reduces his recruiting appeal to colleges. The CHL is agreeing to the counterproposal because it will likely box in more players and keep them in the CHL.

I'm curious where others are on this.
