Chatham University — The Steps to Improvement

Re: Chatham University — The Steps to Improvement

RIT Fan.....time for a history lesson regarding the ECAC-W coaches.

Platty: Coach Houle became Head Coach when the original coach left the school. He was arguably the best asst in mens D3 hockey and this was a promotion giving him the opportunity to run his own show. He has done that exceptionally well and with class.
Elmira/RIT: Both former mens assistants

Oswego/Buffalo State: Both are former D1 womens assistants at Cornell. ....has taken small strides toward being competitive day in and day out.

Yes.........experience in the womens game is very important.

I still don't see your point. Hire real hockey people.
Oswego should be a top team by now. Great arena, State school and close to Canada.
Buffalo should be better. Good arena, state school and close to Canada.

Elmira/RIT: Both former mens assistants who inherited incredibly talented teams and have ridden the coattails of their predecessors. Both programs have continued to grow and maintain their histories of success.

This is actually the most laughable comment ever.
EC has never had the same success since Jamie Wood left, but they have remained a top team for a very long time. They may have started slow this year but they will be there in the end and will have something to say in the playoffs.

I've been on the RIT campus since the Scuteri days. I've seen this program grow and get better...in the last five years. Comparing the Gransky years and saying McDonald is riding his coattails is a joke. Compare years, records, and leagues and let me know if you come up with the same results.

Anyways, back to Chatham hockey...keep getting better girls. Sorry for hijacking your thread.

I may not make any points that have not already been made...

Chatham actually had all the resources to potentially put together an excellent and successful program. Administration was made aware of deficiencies (does not include player's attitudes) and was provided almost guaranteed ways the program would succeed very quickly... none of which were put in place. I suppose some schools are happy with "just getting by". They sure talked the talk but chose not to put their money where their mouth was when it came time to make decisions. Staffing decisions were certainly not made due to a lack of qualified candidates. Like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Also- no excuses can be made because it is an all girls school and in Pittsburgh. A good recruiter would not see this as an obstacle at all. Pittsburgh also deserves more credit than what it is getting in terms of a hockey city... correct it is no Minnesota but has exploded in the past few years with programs offered and talent coming out of the city.
