CHA Thoughts and Predictions '10-'11

Re: CHA Thoughts and Predictions '10-'11

Just wondering if you think any team has a chance against Mercy, and in general, how each team may play this season with the changeover and whatnot. :)

Hmmm....Not really looked into the CHA that deeply. My focus is the ECAC. However as a longtime SU-Orange Hoops fan, will always pull for the Orange in CHA action.

In reality however, I think the Hurst will be more rather than less dominant in the CHA this year. Would expect the Orange to be a solid 2nd, although they did loose a big time proven goaltender to graduation. RMU might be a bit better this year, with more scoring punch from one of their rookies, so I would not just relegate them back to the basement. Don't have a view on WS or Niagara.

Re: CHA Thoughts and Predictions '10-'11

Hey G n G. Tell us what you think about the conference. We know that Mercy will be strong, but tell us about the rest. :) Oh, and another thing, tell me about the rink thing with Fournier. I'm curious, and have been for quite some time.

Ahhhh. Hmmmm. Lots of questions and I'll answer briefly.

Yes, Mercyhurst will be good again. Very good. Syracuse has a lot of talent and could start to challenge. RMU also looked good at times last season and good be a solid third. Wayne State has reloaded again, but goal scoring will again be at a premium. Niagara is also young and growing and I'll be anxious to see what they can do. Penn State will finish 6th. ;)

I don't want to back into the Fournier thing a lot. Basically, he killed the men's team and told them in the locker room for years that a rink was "in the works". The women still play way off campus, but it's not as bad as the Fraser, Plymouth road trips that he used to make the men play. He's not a hockey guy. Period. The women do a terrific job because of their hard work and a whale of a job by Coach Fetter and his staff.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Kristen Cameron too. I'm glad they caught the dirt bag who hit her.

Re: CHA Thoughts and Predictions '10-'11

Fresman goalies could be outstanding - Looks like a great CDN goalie. The Mn Goalie, Defense and Forwards are outstanding. I don't know Press as well as she is from MN but went out East for prep school.

Kallie Billadeau Goaltender Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins
Billadeau, the top rated goalie in the state of Minnesota, played in 30 games as a senior goaltender with a goals-against average of 1.60. She made 792 saves and recorded five shutouts on the season.

Jenesica Drinkwater Goaltender Brantford, Ontario/Stoney Creek
Drinkwater's Stoney Creek Junior Sabres won the bronze medal in the Provincial Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She played in 29 games for the Junior Sabres, making 628 saves and recording seven shutouts. Drinkwater also played in the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship for Team Ontario South that won the bronze medal. During the 2008-09 season she was one of six goalies in the country to be selected for Team Canada Camp. That same season she was a member of Team Ontario, where she participated in the National Women's U-18

Cara Johnson Forward Plymouth, Minn./Hopkins
Johnson tallied 17 goals and 24 assists in her senior season, increasing her career total to 69 goals and 127 assists. She was a four-time all-conference selection and a member of the all-state team for two consecutive years. Johnson was named a finalist for the 2010 Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award, which is presented to the top senior girls high school hockey player in the state of Minnesota.

Christina LaCombe Defense Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie
As a team captain, LaCombe scored 46 goals and added 39 assists in her final two seasons from the defensive position. She was an all-state selection for two consecutive seasons and led the state of Minnesota in goals scored by a defenseman.

Samantha Press Forward Minnetonka, Minn./The Hotchkiss School
Press scored 15 goals and added 20 assists in her senior campaign for The Hotchkiss School. She led her team to a successful 12-4-3 season.

Re: CHA Thoughts and Predictions '10-'11

Hello CHA family, hope you all had a great summer, great to see alot of you here again.
My summer has been been difficult, still dealing with some things today, but i know God has his hands on me,life is a bit rough for me at the moment but im coping, and i will get through it.
I'm excited about the upcoming season, not sure what to expect from my lady warriors, but i know they will be better, how much better?not sure.
My heart goes out to the family of Brandi Frakie,i got to know her really well while she was at WSU,great kid,God love her she will be missed.
Can i assume Penn State will be joining the CHA in womens hockey?
I kinda think they will go after our coach Jim Fetter, and in my gut,i think he may leave if offered,i sure hope my gut is wrong,i want him to retire from wayne state, but a new challenge may entice him.
Looks again like its mercyhurst and everyone else again, plus they get agosta back, and they still have my favorite, scanzano, hope my warriors can pull another upset or two.
Great to be back on the board, looking forward to chatting with evryone this season,i really missed you guys over the summer.

Re: CHA Thoughts and Predictions '10-'11

Although Fetter would be a great choice there are others I believe that are available now that do not have 3 years left to a contract.

Re: CHA Thoughts and Predictions '10-'11

I hope you are right driver, but if im starting a program with huge resources like they have at a school like Penn State,i'm gonna make a call to a one time national coach of the year and coach of a canadian national team, who took a nothing program(wsu) in a nothing town(detroit) with no home rink to a conference title and national top ten ranking.
That guy gives your program instant credibility.
Again driver my friend,i hope you are right and they look somewhere else,i dont want him to leave WSU until he retires or grand valley state gets a womens team.:-)
