CCHA v2.9.1 - BGSU BSU FSU LSSU MSU MTU NMU UST & Special Guests - The Augie Vikings

I just hope we quit seeing holier-than-thou posts and articles from nchc school fans and reporters talking about growing the game when they are willing to patch players and schools from others. The narrative about the big ten being evil and just being forced to act is a fallacy as is the idea of growing the game when they refuse to take new schools until there is a selfish reason to take them. At least be honest that they are just as greedy as big ten schools.

Aren't all colleges & universities trying to grow revenue......thus are greedy? Or am I missing something in what you are stating?

Have always said the WCHA minus Minnesota and Wisconsin would have still been an amazing conference. The CCHA minus Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State would have struggled but no worse than it is right now. Can scream about the B1G killing college hockey all you want, but the NCHC at the very least helped a ton.

Also it's weird how strongly nacho schools cheer for each other.

I went back 7 pages on this site and the only conference page I see, besides the 1 I just started and have been the only contributor to, is this one CCHA 2.9.1. But maybe you're referencing some other source of information?

Mostly on twitter. Like St. Cloud fans trying to transitive property Denver and Duluth titles into their own success. To each their own but as a Kato fan I would get zero enjoyment out of Michigan Tech winning a title.

Does anyone else think the CCHA erred in going West? With St. Thomas leaving already, Augustana seems a bit too far away for my liking. I think some moves were made in mind to shore up the state of Minnesota thinking Minnesota State may leave, but it's clear the NCHC doesn't want Mankato, and I feel like Lucia was blindsided by St. Thomas leaving.

Personally, I think the conference focusing on the GLIAC/MAC footprint would be better. States like South Dakota and Minnesota feel like outliers for the GLIAC and MAC. Presence in states like Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois is more of what I think this conference should be.

Thanks. I don't do twitter so I don't see that. But it does happen elsewhere such as SEC in football and maybe a few other sports and conferences, seems a bit strange to me.

I have some conference pride but it's limited to the other Upper Peninsula schools if Lake State isn't doing much. I think it's kind of cool that all three UP schools have won the national championship at least once. I also have a soft spot for Bowling Green because of Ron Mason. I don't have a reason to root for any of the other schools, so I don't. They just exist.

Anyone who is surprised by UST leaving for the NCHC hasn't been paying attention to what UST has been doing since moving to D1. And, what, exactly are you asking the CCHA to have done differently? Beg Toledo or Central Michigan or GVSU or whoever to start a team rather than take Augustana? Or to take Lindenwood, who doesn't control their own building and can't even get to 35% capacity in a 2500 seat rink?

The CCHA hired a commissioner from Minnesota who went all in adding another Minnesota school only for that school to leave immediately.

That’s a fail in my book. He got used by a nobody school. I’d fire him.

As I'm sure you are all aware, there are no ethics in business, when it comes to money especially. NCHC felt like it would help them financially.
Having said that, maybe the CCHa ought to have a penalty for leaving like the NCHC does.

That's why I find the "it was obvious that St. Thomas was going to leave" argument so misguided. If it was obvious, then why was there no exit fee already in place? The Rink Live article has Lucia passing the blame to the schools because he wasn't involved in the by-laws.

I don't think it's a good look for the commissioner of the conference blaming the schools. It's not like he was hired yesterday. If he felt this was an urgent matter, the by-laws should have been redone before St. Thomas played a game in the conference.

That nobody school was going to dominate the CCHA for years and decades to come. I guarantee all schools in this conference would become sick of them winning games after games. In fact, within 10 years of being in their new league they will end up being a top three school and playing in Frozen Four and winning conference championships. They have a lot of money to burn and have the desire to be number 1 in their new settings.

We call that rookie hour by all the schools and including Lucia.

This post has been pinned and we'll check back on how laughable it ends up being in 10 years.

Money doesn't guarantee anything. I'm a Lake State fan who watched the university invest in the "Gem of the North" renovation to Abel Arena in 1995 and then go on to have 2 NCAA appearances in the next 3 decades. And that was at a proven winner hockey school that was fresh off 3 national titles and 4 national title games in 7 years.

I'm glad St. Thomas is getting a nice basketball arena that a hockey team will play at. Good for them!

Money does help as St. Thomas has two or three billionaires who give money to their school and it helps with this massive transition.

Pure rubbish. If you don't have a reason for why my prediction won't come to pass means you have zero spine.

You made the outlandish claim, slappy. I've seen enough college hockey to know that you don't just buy success. Otherwise Penn State would have national championships already. It's going to take a lot of decline from other places for your prediction to come true, and that's something completely out of their control. Forget my spine, you have zero brain.
