CCHA Quarterfinals: Miami hosts Ohio St

Re: CCHA Quarterfinals: Miami hosts Ohio St

OSU has to be better today, much better, if they want to win and send this series to a 3rd game. Carlson looked average at best, the same old selfish/undisciplined penalties and specialty teams were the major problems from what I could see on the feed. The game had some bright spots but few and far between. Hope the team comes out with some fire tonight and makes a game/series of it.

I see all of you mentioning specials teams...There weren't a lot of penalties in the game, and quiet a few were coincidental penalties. Miami had the Major power play where they scored twice but it was never close. Im not being biased here either, being in the building the ice was tilted from the drop of the puck. Both OSU goals were broken plays with weird bounces and their SOG were extremely inflated with a boat load of shots from the outside. Miami had firm control of the game even when they were down 2-1, there was never any concern in the building.

I mostly agree with you. Yes there weren't a lot of penalties, however OSU had 0 PP goals and very few shots, yet they gave up 2+ PP goals (+ is because the last goal was scored right as a PP ended and OSU had not really got their man back in the play) on 6 chances. OSU has been near the bottom of DI hockey most of the year on both the PK and PP. I would agree Miami dominated the game and it certainly looked like Miami never panicked. Seriously though with a name like Redhawkman you are going to tell us you are not biased? ;)

Carlson or Heeter in net tomorrow night?

Oh you gotta keep playin Dusty. Didn't you see his interview in some random Columbus paper? He has so much confidence after "beating" us in the last series of the season (read: getting smoked, then getting a desperation tie).

Carlson vs Knapp tonight in what is the last game before Markell signs a 5 year extension.

Re: CCHA Quarterfinals: Miami hosts Ohio St

NOW, things are getting interesting! We'll see what the cat drags in Sunday. And Miami's announcer's need to be told their mike's are still live during the breaks. lol! :D

Re: CCHA Quarterfinals: Miami hosts Ohio St

well ohio state tried to blow it but Markell lives to see another day. Buckeyes will need to play even better tomorrow if they want to have a chance.

Re: CCHA Quarterfinals: Miami hosts Ohio St

Felt like riding a roller coaster listening on the radio tonight. I'm just happy to have a chance Sunday after blowing the 2 goal lead late in the game. The pressure likely again will be on Dusty Carlson. GO BUCKS!

Re: CCHA Quarterfinals: Miami hosts Ohio St

Wow, good for the Buckeyes. Miami outplayed the Bucks but really couldn't get to the front of the net. OSU played a smart defensive game with only a couple of breakdowns. Dalpe was the difference 1 goal and 3 helpers! Other thoughts...Reichard was average at best tonight. Thought Carlson was mediocre again tonight, as noted above not many if any second chance shots for Miami. Was anyone else shocked to see Boyd start the game after costing his team two goals with the ultimate in selfish play? Lastly, gotta say it again...Dalpe was the difference 1 goal and 3 helpers!!

try being at the game. Up 2 goals and on the PP with 5 minutes to go i things looked pretty good. That was untill sims decided to pinch in and miss the puck creating a 2 on 1 and giving the hawks some life. The the last goal was a very bad one for dusty, he wasnt on the post all the way and went down early leaving the top corner.

I was very pleased with the first period tonight. I felt better tonight with the lead more than last night. Miami dominated last night even though ohio state was ahead, tonight the first was more even and ohio state had the lead 2-0.

I was very disappointed with the officals tonight i had a problem with every call Wilkins made expect the hit to the head by the miami player in the 2nd that lead to the 4th ohio state goal. Yes that should have been a penalty at the end of the game on ohio state both guys missed that one.

Tomorrow all the pressure is on miami they are supposed to be through to detroit all ready and ohio state well this is bonus hockey now. To win ohio state will have to get off to a good start again and stay on the gas pedal. Stay out of the box not giving extra chances to miami. Dusty will have to be great like he was tonight. The first goal is going to be very crucial more to the buckeyes than miami. If i were miami i wouldnt change much after being down 3-0 i thought they controled the game pretty much.

Get a good nights sleep and come out guns a blazin tomorrow. GO BUCKS!

Re: CCHA Quarterfinals: Miami hosts Ohio St

OK, for those of you who can't go to the game but want to watch it here is how to get it FREE!. When you go to Miami's athletic website at www.muredhawks.com and proceed to the hockey page you will see where you can click on the option of gametracker or watch. Click on watch and it will take you to CBS Sports (CSTV) where you can pay to view. It has a place to enter a promo code, you want to enter FREEMONTH09 and that should give it to you free, at least it worked for me with Saturday's game. One last thing, it will require you to have Microsoft Silverlight to watch and will give you the option of downloading it if you don't already have it. Hope it works for everyone. Enjoy! :D :D :D :D

I wouldn't say Miami out played Ohio st. saturday at all....Miami won the third period and thats it.

Now on Sunday that is a different story. For me tosu was never in the game. Miami came out and just flat out set the tempo and took it to them. For all but the first 6 or 7 minutes of the third it was all Miami. tosu never really got any sustained pressure in the first two periods. Miami needs to clean some things up, they are a half sec. late on their shots and are hitting a lot of shin pads and glass. Still don't know how the second goal from hirschfeld went in but it did.

On to Detroit and Michigan....

Re: CCHA Quarterfinals: Miami hosts Ohio St

I thought Miami played flat early on, possibly feeling the pressure of what this game meant. They capitalized on some breakdowns in OSU's defence scoring in the second. Ohio State had their chances too but Dalpe missed a wide open net and the guys seemed to have a real hard time adjusting to the ice. It was just plain terrible and the puck was just dragging because of it coming off the blades of their sticks constantly. I thought it was being handed to OSU to tie it at the end with the penalty that was called and then Miami gets the equalizer call before we can even get the puck up ice! I didn't see the penalty as I was looking elsewhere but if Kyle Reed really did do it at such a critical juncture of the game then he should be given the old soap in the sock treatment in the locker room for being such a bonehead.
Good luck Miami in your continued season.

Re: CCHA Quarterfinals: Miami hosts Ohio St

Yeah it was a pretty dumb play by k Reed. Happened right in front of us. He pretty much just took down and laid on a Miami player. Can't remember who though. Hirsch or Palmer I think.

Then again the penalty that caused that Ohio powerplay was pretty week. Miami throws a huge clean hit in the neutral zone and Wilkins couldn't even see the play but whistles him up for an elbow

I agree on the weak call. The hit that Miami delivered to Krogh that leveled him at OSU's blue line in the second I thought would have been a more likely call with a high elbow being delivered as well with the hit. They certainly were letting them play tonight.

Ice was not a problem, was on it earlier in the day and it was great. OSU was gripping the sticks a little tight themselves, but ice isn't to blame. Probably one of the best surfaces in the league.

Really? I saw the Miami team passing and using puck control to pretty much control the game. Their ability to regroup and hold onto the puck is as much for defensive purposes as they do it to gain an offensive advantage. The problem they ran into Saturday was getting to the front of the net because of OSU packing in the middle, playing D first and hoping for a break. They got a break in that Reichard was off his game that night.

Now on Sunday that is a different story. For me tosu was never in the game. Miami came out and just flat out set the tempo and took it to them. Agreed they controlled the game again with puck control, but they had several lapses where OSU controlled play in the offensive zone. That did not happen on Fri or Sat night. I thought the big difference this game was several huge saves by Knapp that kept OSU from gaining any momentum. As for the Hirschfeld goal it shouldn't have gone in. I guess I don't see the game as most OSU fans do, like I am not convinced Carlson should be your #1 goalie. Also I can't tell you how many times I get OSU supporters telling me they "don't see the big deal" about Dalpe at forward or Sims and Bartkowski on defense?! It seems to me it's the little, maybe subtle is a better word, things that they do that makes them stand out in while I watch the game. I think all 3 would thrive playing in Miami's system where puck control is the key. Good luck to the Red Hawks in the NCAA's representing the CCHA!
