The first round of the 2024-25 playoffs are in the books. All the favored seeds won their first round matches except for #19 PokeCheck pulling the upset over #14 Soulbeaver and #21 Critical Thinker officially donning the Cinderella slipper as the highest remaining seed in the field by virtue of his win over #12 GoNanooks. Stick taps to our #2 seed Bronco Hockey Fan who would have posted the top score of 14 first round points had he not faced a first round bye. Officially, MTUHuskyGold gets the stick tap recognition with his first round score of 12 points. Congrats!

Finally, here are the latest bracket updates:

"DOWN GOES FRAZIER!" goes boxing's most famous call and WOW, is it appropriate this year. Three, count 'em THREE #1 seeds fell in the second round. It looks like that bye caused more harm than good as #16 BillyLP took down the #1 seed and MacNaughton/Bill Beagan winner TUPD 9-7, #15 John J. MacInnes beat #2 Bronco Hockey Fan 11-9, and #19 and current Cinderella story Poke Check knocked off #3 SweeneyHawksHockey 10-7. So to recap, the #1, #2, and #3 seeds are OUT while the #15, #16, and #19 seeds stay alive.

Also advancing are our #9 seed MTUHuskyGold who doubled up rookie StevieYnot 14-7, #7 Icd8 who outlasted iwearpurple 11-9, #6 puckdude40 who beat Manurespreader 14-10. It's the Bowling Green bracket where we see the two favorites going at it with #4 mbenecke sending Hockey John home for the season and #5 giwan finishing off Critical Thinker.

Stick taps to MTUHuskyGold and puckdude40 who tied for the highest number of points this round with 14. Congrats!

Forms for the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds will be available after Sunday's Beaver/Tommie game is done.

Quarterfinal results are in and there a couple of upsets including our current Cinderella story, #19 PokeCheck taking down #6 puckdude40 by a score of 6-2. The other upset saw #5 giwan over #4 mbenecke by a score of 7-2. The other two winners were MTUHuskyGold ending BillyLP's run for the roses 7-2 and #8 Icd80 finishing off #15 John J. MacInnes by a score of 8-6.

Semifinal matchups are: MTUHuskyGold vs. giwan and Icd80 vs. crowd favorite and Cinderella story PokeCheck.

And now for the semifinal results! By identical scores of 7-6, #9 MTUHuskyGold outlasted #5 giwan and #19 PokeCheck's Cinderella run came to an end at the hands of #7 Icd80.

After 4,864 games picked through the course of the season, the championship match for the Mason Cup comes down to MTUHuskyGold vs. Icd80. The link is below, you know what to do...good luck!

Aaaaaaaallllllllrighty then! The stage is set, the band starts playin', suddenly your heart is pounding! We have our championship entries in, now we wait for the puck to drop.

Good luck to #7 Icd809 and #9 MTUHuskyGold. To build suspense, I will share the picks after tonight's game.
 
What a final match! Both contestants maxed out the final score with 9 points as each picked a 4-2 Maverick win. WOW! With that said, our Mason Cup champion for the 2024-25 season is Icd80, so congratulations from all of us at Pick 'Em headquarters! Our hearts go out to MTUHuskyGold who stood tall throughout the entire tournament. There's not much to say other than great run.

'My team' is actually in NCHC but I'll be back to CCHA pick'em trying to play Cinderella again, or maybe instead work up to a better seed and have higher expectaions at playoff time.

You and Bronco Hockey Fan should trade notes ;-). Might as well add in GoNanooks for that matter.
 
First off, I concur with the others this Pick 'Em continues to be something to look forward to each year and my hats off to TUPD for coordinating this. I'm sure a lot of work goes into this each week and much appreciated. Second, congrats to ICD80 for a hard fought win of the Mason Cup. And although I finally took home some hardware this year (Jeff Sauer Trophy) losing in the finals with a "perfect" prediction to a higher seed did sting a little. It may never happen again in the finals but a suggestion to TUPD for the final match only to include a tie breaker (ex: total shots on goal, PPG/SHG) instead of defaulting to lower seed winning. Thanks again and looking forward to next year!
