CC @ SCSU: Goalie, Sieve, Tiger in a Box

Re: CC @ SCSU: Goalie, Sieve, Tiger in a Box

I think that CC and SCSU are two teams who are both trying to find their identity as a team. Both have the potential to be a pretty **** good hockey team at the end of the season, but both teams have shown that their may be something missing on a given night. Don't know what to think of this series. I would bet on a split, but could see a sweep for either team.

You would not want to play the Tigers in the NCAA Tourney as BC found out two years ago when CC tagged them for an eight-ball. But getting into the Tournament has proven harder for CC in recent seasons than scoring in the first period this season.

CC is about to spend a month on the road. Should be an interesting journey.

Re: CC @ SCSU: Goalie, Sieve, Tiger in a Box

CC has been plagued with inconsistent goaltending and defensive struggles all year. Howe will start Friday with Thorimbert on Saturday (most likely). Either goaltender can steal a game but both have struggled at times this year. The defensive play has been subpar for much of the season. The Minnesota series was better but CC gave up almost 90 shots on goal each of the previous two weekends. Nodak and Minnesota smothered CC in the defensive zone and created a lot of scoring chances. CC's first periods are generally pretty awful. They have been outscored heavily in the opening frame. They have balanced scoring and seem to score in bunches when they do heat up.

Re: CC @ SCSU: Goalie, Sieve, Tiger in a Box

According to Gibbons at the coaches show last night, Morley and Gravel are fine and will be ready for this weekend.
Gibbons did notice that we have had a few guys run this year after putting up some good numbers against opponents (Hanowski vs Mankato and Morley vs Omaha) which led Lyons to wonder if the refs really were focusing on player safety as both of those hits were late and well after the puck had left and in the case of Morley, from the blind side and high.

Benik is expected to make his Huskies debut this weekend. Hatter reported that he wore a no contact jersey at practice today, but went through all the drills with the team.

He is practicing as though he will play but he has to be cleared first and that's not a for sure thing.

I vote for Bertsch or Rehkamp. I like how hard Milan works when he is out there, so I want to see him stay. Rehkamp is a work horse as well but he only had one spectacular night and has a -5 right now overall, which is the lowest on the team.

Agreed, Milan may not have put a lot of points up this year but he does work his tail off out there. He isn't afraid to use his body and throw some checks (or try to at least) either, which is something some of the bigger guys could learn from.

Has Bertsch been so bad this year that they'd sit him? I recall him having a pretty strong finish to last year.

I don't think so but with Benji back who do you sit? Rehkamp? Bertsch? Milan? I say that the depth is great and Friday night you sit whoever put in the least amount of work during practices that week. Then Saturday sit whoever looked the laziest Friday. And if the name on his Jersey is Hanowski, LeBlanc, Dowd, so be it. Send a message that anyone can sit with this talent and depth

In my opinion, yes.
He has one goal, one assist, is a -1 and unlike Milan, isn't physical and unlike Rehkamp, can't be anything but a wing.
I can't think of one game I thought Bertsch stood out.

Re: CC @ SCSU: Goalie, Sieve, Tiger in a Box

I would like to see Milan rewarded and moved up a few lines like Bertsch was earlier. He has created a bunch of grade A chances on his own and it would be interesting to see what he could do with some guys that can set him up.

Re: CC @ SCSU: Goalie, Sieve, Tiger in a Box

With just a tad more skill, Milan would be a dangerous weapon for SCSU. Not sure if anyone on the top two lines could guess just where he will be on any given rush! Yes, love the energy, the hits on the opponent's big guys, the speed, etc.

We all like the size of Holka and Oliver, but there would be some options.

Right now, I like Milan on the 4th line.

Re: CC @ SCSU: Goalie, Sieve, Tiger in a Box

It's kind of hard now that Benik is back. But I( if I were coach for a day) would have at least rewarded him earlier to at least 3rd line over Holka, Bertsch and Oliver (just to see how it would work). I would even swap Brodzinski to get a grinder matched with some of our skill guys, moving him down to help out the 3rd.

Murray's effort should also be rewarded. Not sure if I would swap with Thorson but it would be interesting to see him with LeBlanc and Kossila earlier over Brodzinski.

I suppose the left handed sticks wouldn't work on the right side but I would still like to see the effort rewarded somehow. It also keeps the motivation/effort up for everyone if suddenly they aren't so secure with someone nipping right behind them.

Spot on. Milan is an energy guy, perfectly suited for forth line play. Every time he hits the ice he is noticeable, and hopefully the other guys on the bench take notice of what that kid does when he gets the little ice time that he does. Rather than switch up his line mates, I'd say just run this line more when the rest of the lines aren't pulling their weight.

I think Euro got it right: bench whoever is phoning it in during practice and give Benik a shot on Friday. Repeat on Saturday. Ice time is a privilege, not a right.

Benji? Benik hasn't even played and he has a terrible nickname? Who are we...the Gophers?
