Catamount Cup: Vermont, tUMD, Mercyhurst and UAH

Re: Catamount Cup: Vermont, tUMD, Mercyhurst and UAH

As for the goaltending I would say Madore is finding his consistency. In his last 5 outings ( 4.5 games with the UNH relief ) he is sporting a .933 save % and a 2 GAA.

3 goals against DC ( 1 off the 2 GAA average)
0 goals against SLU
1 goal against UNH for half the game
3 goals against BU
2 goals against NU

That seems IMO to be pretty consistent. QUOTE]

I agree that Madore has improved some, particularly statistically, but we also need to cognizant of the competition this has been against. These are not exactly cream of the crop opposition so not a great barometer against which to measure things. BU/NU/DC are pretty much bottom of the barrel offensive teams this year and SLU is not a barnburner on offense either. And he played UNH after they had a comfortable lead. Hopefully he will go on a second half run like last year. Looking forward to seeing some hockey this weekend.

Re: Catamount Cup: Vermont, tUMD, Mercyhurst and UAH

You know, observer, I was agreeing with jcarter that your posts are generally hypocritical and whiny but abiding by his new year's resolution and not chiming in with that agreement, then you post another thing and I am caving on my first new year's resolution.

Actually, my second. My first was resolving to climb off coach Sneddon's back on the 3 defensemen PP unit, but that didn't have much chance from the get-go.

So forgetting the generally hypocritical and whiny nature of your posts, I was taken by your self-congratulation in this last post. Someone else's crack research (research on crack?) leads you to confirm what you already thought? That is as patently absurd on its face as coach Sneddon's saying that after he knows the result of a particular game, his 10 magic categories always confirm the game's result. When you do it, observer, you're a moron; when coach Sneddon does it, I suppose it's rocket science.

Then, like coach Sneddon, you spew your cliches, the team doesn't have a game for 2 weeks so they'll 'leave it all on the ice.' I guess you are referring to the second game of the Catamount Cup, because after the first game they have a game the next day. But you had to use a cliche, didn't you? When you spew cliches, observer, it's meaningless; when coach Sneddon spews them, I suppose it's poetic.

Between your cliches and your hypocrisy and whining, observer, I'll take your hypocrisy and whining. Leave the cliches to the master.

All these Vermont fans are making me believe UMD should easily win this. :D

If we get the puck in the back of the net, which sometimes just hasn't happened, I really like our chances.

Will you be staying up late/getting up early to listen?

Re: Catamount Cup: Vermont, tUMD, Mercyhurst and UAH

Let's play some hockey! It feels like it has been a long time since UMD has played a game. Hope they bring in the new year with a couple of W's this weekend.

Go Dogs!

Re: Catamount Cup: Vermont, tUMD, Mercyhurst and UAH

Clearly, UMD and UVM are the 2 "better" teams in the field of the Catamount Cup. UMD is ranked #12 in the country and UVM is an over .500 team that went to the Frozen Four last year.

But based on the results so far since the puck has dropped in this new year (post break), they both better be weary.

So far #8 Quinnipiac has fallen to Harvard; Michigan fell to RPI; Maine beat #3 Colorado College; Princeton beat #4 Cornell; Bentley beat #15 UMass-Amherst; and last night, St Lawrence beat #5 Boston College.

Can't wait for the puck to drop. I hope the fans show up to watch both games as they should be good.

Who pays attention to polls?

More like #14 Quinnipiac, worst Michigan team in a decade, #23 Cornell, #10 UMass, #7 BC.

But I see where you are going.

Wish I was going to be there!!! It's probably 30 degrees warmer there, with lots of lovely snow.

Apparently I pay to much attention to polls. They are a snap shot in time, change weekly. The Pairwise numbers are based on a moving target and change as games come. I agree, Michigan is bad this year, like Minnesota...but a win over those programs is a big thing for a team and its fans.

Oh for sure. Look how gleeful Bemidji was about splitting with the Gophers and getting their first win. Acted like that made them legit or something.

Let's hope our teams meet tomorrow night!!!

Re: Catamount Cup: Vermont, tUMD, Mercyhurst and UAH

Start Spillane again!!! He's on a roll!

I expect to see some personnel changes tomorrow. Madore will be in and not sure if Spillane will play another game this season. That casual coverup of the puck - the whistle blew before the UAH player poked it in - was probably the last straw. Last year he made a mistake misplaying a puck that cost the team a goal in this same tournament and it was pretty much it.

Not sure if they will make any changes at forward but Roos did nothing tonight. Leonard needs to bring back the energy he brought to the team in his 8 game stretch. The all freshman line did not seem to mess as well as I was thinking it would.

Franzon should be back in the lineup. Not sure who for, could replace Lawson (poor pass into a group of players that resulted in UAH's 2nd goal) or MacKenzie (no clue he had a player behind him that scored UAH's 3rd goal at the end of 2nd period).

But as has been the case with this team, they tend to play to the level of their opponent. I wonder if they know Duluth is actually really good?

I think he will be lucky to dress. Vazzano will be in net before Spillane.

He is all over the place....shuts out Yale then gives up 4 goals in 30 min to UNH and 3 to UAH on 14 shots???

I agree with observer, Spillane probably won't see another game this year unless Madore gets injured.

You guys do know I was kidding, right?

6 hours til pregame! First gotta watch my Vikings lose.

Re: Catamount Cup: Vermont, tUMD, Mercyhurst and UAH

jcarter, the speed with which you affirmed that "we" knew the Duluth fan was kidding about Spillane being on a roll makes me think that you really did not know it was kidding.

I hope Mike Spillane never runs into you on the street.

Ouch! Come on, now.
