Re: Cars

It looks like Ford's engineers have been snorting the pixie dust while watching bad sci-fi cartoons and movies while designing the concept for the 2015 F-150.

Did you happen to read the caption of the picture?

The concept is from 2006. It's currently 2012, and the NAIAS will be in 2013- so that makes the picture 7 years old from the new concept.

Just pointing that out.

I had missed that part. I really hope the designs have changed from those pictures. I don't understand why they'd show the old photos, though. I can't be the only person making that same mistake.

It's Fox News. They are trying to make you upset. :)

In other fields, engineers don't do visual design work. I presume that's true in the automotive industry as well. I would blame an architect/visual designer type for such things.

Re: Cars

Oh if only I had a spare $5M.......

Look through the records of the most expensive cars ever sold at auction and you'll see Bugattis, Duesenbergs, Aston Martins, Alfa Romeos... but the one model line that pops up again and again is Ferrari's 250 series. Comprising the bulk of Ferrari's models during the 1950s and 60s, the 250 series included such notables as the GTO, Testa Rossa, Lusso and California Spider. But just as vital to Ferrari's dominance of sportcar racing in its heyday was the 250 GT SWB. And RM has got one going up for auction in Arizona next month.

Re: Cars

Any recommendations/cautionary tales on 7-seat SUVs? Probably looking for something 2008 and newer. No other real requirements - definitely don't need 4WD, but not opposed to it, either.

Acura MDX. My girlfriend has one and I love driving it. Great handling, but not top heavy, moves well in the snow. I fit okay in the third row of seats (I'm 6 ft), not uncomfortable.

Re: Cars

SWB's are nice ( Short Wheelbase Berlinetta), though I do not agree it's one of the most desireable cars ever made. It used to be you'd see them shown on the curcuit of Ferrari owners get togethers, but not any more, and for that kind of money, you might be better off with a 375 MM or some such, that would be my choice anyway, though it's not much of a road car.;)

BTW the 375 MM was known as "the monster" by the competition, it set the lap record at Le Mans in 1954 at 169.5 MPH and had a top speed of between 180 and 190 mph.. 360 hp, 4.5 litre, V 12,( the cylinders were sleeved and the sleeves were screwed into the head), 1800 pound car, De Dion Rear end, 6 x 16 bias ply tires. Not a car for the faint of heart at all, but extremely fast in the right hands.

(Fully understanding the 2006 picture caption...)

Ford better not **** this up. I've been saving up for a new F-150 in January 2014 (in that neighborhood) and if it's a pile of ****, that money is going straight to Toyota or GM.

Re: Cars

well, just got back from the bank. Handed over the last 200 bucks or so that was left on the loan and had them sign off on the title. The car is now All Mine!!!!

Now you will have all that money for all of the inevitable mechanical problems that begin in 3....2....1.... ;) :D

I just shelled out $400 for the first issue I have had with my car since paying it off, but it has been 3 1/2 years, so not too many complaints.

Re: Cars

Anyone here have a Subaru or Honda, or can offer a qualified opinion on them? We're looking to replace our 11 year old Elantra sometime in the next 6 months, and have so far narrowed it down between the Honda CR-V and the Subaru Outback. I'm leaning towards the Outback personally, but since this will primarily be my wife's vehicle, I'll probably acquiesce to her decision. They're both nice, but I like the standard AWD, roomy cargo space, and overall look of the Outback. Wife thinks it looks a little too "wagoney". The CR-V has a little nicer dashboard control area, but a few things we want are either upgrades or are only found on the upper-end packages (AWD, heated seats, etc...). I also don't really care for the CR-V's vanilla styling (the back end is particularly ugly).

Test drove a Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai Tucson, and eliminated both for various reasons. Also considered (but eliminated) the Nissan Rogue and Ford Fusion. I refuse to purchase a Government Motors vehicle due to that bailout BS, so GM will not even be considered.

Re: Cars

You can only get Subaru if you plan on plastering it with bumper stickers. :)

I know you eliminated it, but I wanted to add an addition $0.02 on the Fusion:
I drove a Fusion once as a loaner and I would never buy one. The engineers knew they had a problem and added a wide-view mirror instead of properly designed rear window. The blind spots in a small car like that were infinitely worse than a large SUV like a Durango. And I've driven two Durangos growing up.
