Re: Cars

****it all. Car lost it's alternator yesterday and now I've been told there's some play in the crankshaft. Always tough seeing your first car get a terminal diagnosis. They said it probably has another 50-60k on it. :(

How many miles are on it now?

Alternators are easy and cheap to replace if you're willing to do it yourself. You'll save about $150-250 vs. using a shop.

160,000.

Yeah, I'm not terribly handy. I could probably do it but whatever. I'd rather someone do it right.

They don't know how long it has based on "some" play in the crank. I'll bet the tranny ****s the bed before the engine unless its a standard.

Re: Cars

So no talk about the VW diesel issues?

~500,000 cars in the US were not actually legal for sale. That's a lot.

At least 4M cars around the world.

And VW has criminal investigations in at least the US and Germany at the moment.

Kinda hard to fathom that VW intentionally cheated, but they are admitting it.

Re: Cars

Well, for those of us car people who don't look at either of those thread, I figured that a car subject would show up in the car thread.

This is a big enough deal that it fits in Headline News too. Its not just for "car guys" like post in this thread, I'd imagine many others want to discuss too.
