Scoreless after one.

By far, the best hockey I've seen so far.

Ab seems to have picked up their game after their dismal showing against B.C..

Apparently, several players on both teams were recently on TC-U18.

What's the maximum age a player can be and still be eligible? Tuning in it looks like there are some big girls out there! It seems a little odd (and maybe dangerous?) for an 11 year-old to be going up against them.

I believe that maximum age is 17.

Yeah, I agree, I think an 11 year old is crazy, although, I think that one is a goalie, if that makes any difference. She wouldn't even be able to grasp the gravity of the situation. But it's all a function of demographics/gene pool size and that's the "problem", meaning it's pretty predictable every Games. (The small provinces/territories have small gene pools and I guess this is what they sometimes have to do to ice a team. Conversely, the larger provinces have the largest gene pools and are almost always the best teams).

I recall seeing goaltender Carmen McDonald playing in two games in CWG 2007 when she was 14. (She went on to play for St. Lawrence and she did quite well). I could be wrong but I looked at her eyes several times during those two games wondering what she might be thinking at such a young age being on a national stage and I kept thinking what I saw in her eyes was a trance like fear or mental numbness...lots of endless blank stares out to infinity...like she didn't know where she was. I was almost getting concerned for her well being. But she certainly played well enough given her age and lack of experience relative to the top 16 and 17 yr olds.

Ab finally bags one with a buck twenty seven left on the clock and the goalie pulled for the extra attacker.

Not national but ... Breck's goalie was an 8th grader in the Minnesota State HS tourney that was played last week. Every time they showed her during the two televised games, she was smiling as they won the single A championship. Admittedly, she was likely less nervous because she'd won it the year before as a 7th grader. :)

Also, she is a 13- or 14-year old, not an 11. BTW, Neutral Zone liked Corniea in all five evaluations which they done.

apparently so, I don't see them on the schedule, the polar bear probably ate the walrus and they didn't have enough players for a team

from the looks of the scheduling, they schedule the small and less populated provinces against each other, so maybe those really young players never get a matchup with the more competitive provinces

I'm gonna have to pull for NB because I like their flag, not really sure why there are so many flags with dragons, or what the significance of a gay dragon over three small and one large oak tree is, I guess the Prince was that kinda guy

I would think so, because there are even fewer population centers of any size...Rankin Inlet (home of Jordan Tootoo) and Cambridge Bay come to mind as being a couple of the larger ones relatively speaking, but in an absolute sense, they are tiny. (Do they even have rinks? or is it all outdoor?) And the geographic area that the territory covers is immense.

At least NWT has Yellowknife which is where the majority on their roster are from. But one of them is from Inuvik...and other than Tuktuk, you can't live any farther north unless you're bunkin' in with Santa Claus.

(Another story...for some reason her name escapes me...Leah? was her first name?...goaltender for NWT in 2007 CWG in Whitehorse...went on to play for NU and did well. Imagine the culture shock...everything is horizontal up there...they look to the east and they can see the caribou migrating on Baffin Island...they look to the west and they can see Sarah Palin...then getting airdropped into the middle of Boston?? A lot of these players that we watch play hockey go through some serious challenges behind the hockey veil).

But that would pose another problem for Nunavut and probably does for NWT and Yukon, ie: logistics. If you have several players on your roster from scattered remote communities...how, when and how often do you practice after the team is named? Do you make do and practice as a partial team? Do they players from remote communities billet for a couple of weeks in the largest center so the team can practice and attempt to gel? I don't know.

Yukon has Whitehorse which is a good sized community but they still have a number of their players living great distances away. So, up there I think it's a problem no matter what.

Yes, thanks for the surname.

And the reason that I mentioned her was because she was from Inuvik (which tied in with the previous sentence) but I see that I could have made that clearer...got distracted by an uncooperative key on the keyboard.

Correction. The only shocker is that they've got the 3 goals credited to the wrong team.

That makes more sense.

Appears as though the Man vs Ab Quarterfinal is being televised on TSN tonight at 8:00 (3 hours late) which would explain the missing link, I suppose.

A semi Final shocker, of sorts.

After getting stomped on a few days ago 6-1 by B.C., Alberta turns it around and defeats B.C. 2-1 in O.T.
