  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

Can we go back to the prior format?

I received a very quick and thorough response from an admin today with an explanation about some of what was going on. Also note there is a posted announcement with info from Board.

I sent a ticket...and tried to not sound like a dick while doing it. (apologized for my tone) suggested they start a thread in the cafe to have a discussion about all of this so we know what is going on on their end. That has worked on other boards I frequent that go through stuff like this.

Looked to me as if jizzlob, or whatever his name was, exploited a security hole to shut down the board.

And, as he himself said, jizzlob was a noob, but still managed to take the board down.

Well his original page said that the vbulletin we were using is vulnerable...guess he proved that correct ;-)

Does anyone know how to make the Cafe sort by newest post reliably? The covfefe thread still says the latest post was yesterday at 2:44 pm. Half the time when I click on a thread “New Post” button it goes to a post but skips like half of the new posts.

How are are people finding new/updated threads reliably?

There is no way. Sometimes when there is new posts it wont show as such but it will still reorder the threads so you can tell someone posted. Otherwise I just click on the threads I care about and go to the last post.

Naturally nothing came of the message I sent to board. No response except an email to a link so I can look at the status of my ticket...which say nothing. Nothing in the announcements board either that I can tell.

Its a joke.

I have been using the notification tab. I click on it and there will be my subscribed threads which I individually click on. It is the most reliable I have found but it is not 100%.

And now the servers are too busy to let me post on some threads :(

Been painfully slow the last week. I was impatient with the initial complaints as predictable opposition to change, but no, it's much worse. They've gone backwards in a big way. I've had industry people tell me offline it is not conspiratorial to think they have simply gotten tired of maintaining the forums and, while not sabotaging them, are allowing them to rot.

I mean, they aren't a charity, I get it. But without the forums USCHO just isn't worth that much. Nobody's here for the writing. This is their discriminator, so if they aren't just shutting the doors it is IMO a Metsian decision to allow their one advantage over the competitors to languish.

It won't let me update my ignore list to include ObviousTroll2020, and I can't find a way to report them. What if someone's spewing racist garbage? Just... let it go?

Are you deleting the entry it puts into your email field? That's what was hanging it up for me.

So, maybe I'm too dumb, but on User Settings > Account, at the bottom is my ignore list. I add the nitwit there. Then I enter my password at the top. I click "save" and it ... does absolutely nothing.

What am I missing?

lls your email in one of the fields. Delete the email it autofills and that should fix it

I was getting an Error 500 when trying to edit that last week. DOn't know what fixed it. I tried deleting a person from the ignore list and it worked fine. Haven't tried readding.

There are three fields - one fixed with your current email, and two to update it. Those two are blank, but I've tried with and without anything in them. I get a tiny "working" message for a second or two, then that goes away and the settings aren't retained.

Ugh.

Yep, I've had this exact same problem for weeks now.

The "Working" icon indicates latency. I see it all the time these days, even when doing something trivial like moving between views. The system is fighting desperately for bandwidth and/or other resources and bleeding out all over us. It's not pretty.
