Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

I sure do wish the Dems would find someone other than Clinton! Don't want a candidate who's well known and up double digits on all GOP rivals running for the nomination dammit!

From ABC:

--ANALYSIS -- ABC's RICK KLEIN: Ex-presidents aren't created equal. Or, at least, they're not equal by the time history gets to judge. George W. Bush fans are likely to be Jeb Bush fans, just as Bill Clinton fans overwhelmingly favor Hillary Clinton in 2016, according to the new ABC News/Washington Post poll. But Hillary has a deeper pool to draw from than W.: Bill Clinton has a 73 percent approval rate, while George W. Bush's is at 47 percent. Enough said? Unless you also say: Barack Obama has an identical 47 percent approval rating in the poll. Hillary Clinton's is down to 49 percent -- 18 points below her high point, which came as she was leaving office as Secretary of State. In a race with echoes of history, it looks like which history major candidates are able to tap into could be determinative. As for now, Clinton leads her major possible rivals in head-to-head matchups. She would beat Jeb Bush by 12 points; Scott Walker by 14, Marco Rubio by 15, and Ted Cruz by 17.

47% for Bush? Kinda sounds like Romney's final vote %. :D

American voters don't know Jeb yet and so associate him more with his brother than pollsters would assume. They will be meeting him later this year...and the romance phase will be next. Until then, the American public will date around.

The Huckster is being way too optimistic. Eliminating all churches is just phase 1. The gay rights movement isn't complete until everyone is gay.

Shhhh. The first rule of Gay Club is...

Huckleberry is looking at Cruz's poll #'s and going "oh sh !t, better say something to get some buzz." Once Cruz consolidates the nutter vote from Huckabee, Carson, and Sanitarium, he's looking at a three way race with him locking up social conservatives, Paul getting the libertarians and Bush/Walker fighting for establishment votes. Since libertarians make up a small % of the vote I expect Paul to hang around but eventually fade out...

You may be wildly wrong on the Dems, but you're exactly right on the GOP. :)

If Ryan throws his well-oiled pecs into the ring, which third does he fall into? He's kinda got bits and pieces of each. I think at the end of the day he's establishment, since his mission in life seems to be to make the world safe for the put-upon minority of multi-billionaires.

BTW, Forbes estimates there are fewer than 2000 billionaires on Earth. That's fewer than the number of car accident fatalities in the US in a month. They control about $16T. The US national debt is $16T.

Just sayin'...

I predict Ryan pulls a Christie and sits this one out since his "space" is already occupied, this time by someone in his own state. Too many people running for the nomination this time and while some of them are jokes (Bobby Jindal?) Its hard to run when you have to overcome your own section of the party before winning over the factions. Bush occupies the Establishment, tax cuts for the rich space, as well as Walker. No room for Ryan. Christie could take down Walker, but he's going to out Corporate Jeb Bush. As they're both relatively young, give it a rest and gear up for next time.

Boy did Christie blow it. This time two years ago he probably had a 30% chance at the nomination; now it's zero. He may actually still run, though; he went out of his way to pander to the phobes re: IN. It's a good way to build a war chest if nothing else.

Christie was never that viable this go around (another northeast moderate???) but when Bush got in he was all done. All his would be corporate donors jumped ship.

However, he's got some options. Say the GOP loses this go around. Christie leaves office in Jan of 2018 I believe. That gives him a solid two years to make the rounds, cultivate donors, lose more weight, and launch a 2020 campaign when he'll only be in his late 50's. If the GOP wins, he can run for Senate as even if he lasts long enough Menendez is up that year I believe, beef up his foreign policy chops, and give it another go.

Likewise, Ryan can play the long game from his perch in the House. He could jump into a governor's race if it looks like an easy win or remain in the GOP congressional leadership.

Its people like Bush, Cruz, Walker, Rubio, Perry, etc who have to jump in now before they become stale.

Well, good news, Rand is in along with Teddy Cruz. Two massively viable electable candidates that will have much to offer the debate for the next year and a half.

I'm glad Rand is in. The GOP needs somebody who has the strength of conviction to oppose the Forever War and the creeping authoritarianism of the far right. And that man is...

... well, probably not him. But he's the best they're going to get.

Republican corporate executive slags environmentalism? Knock me over with a feather. Next you'll be telling us somebody who works for the Family Research Council takes a shot at secular humanism!

Anybody else think that Fiorina turns Flaggy on? Ewww... :D

I'm not sure why she gets so much play in GOP circles since 1) she got fired from her job after a couple of years, and 2) I think the stock price got cut in half during her reign. Why they don't trot out Meg Whitman instead although Meg does currently have a job.

Kep - I'm glad to see your man love of Rand Paul melting just a little bit. The guy's a total fraud and its all an act. Witness his signing onto the laughable Sen Cotton letter to the Iranians. Only Ted Cruz is truly as bat chit crazy as advertised!

I never man loved Rand. I man like Ron a bit.

Rand is transparently an opportunist, but he may accidentally launch an intelligent debate on the right because his only play is the libertarian niche, and, once you clear away the infantile Galt gibbering there are actual coherent ideas at the root of libertarianism, as opposed to the gutteral grunt that underlies one half of the GOP or the cynical cash register ring of the other half.

The right currently has the intellectual power of a doorknob and the moral compass of a sociopath. Rand can do nothing about the latter; that's up to somebody else. But he may help fix the former.
