Got nothing to do with parental involvement, Bob. Do you have any idea how contagious Measles are?

Just heard a vaccine expert from Mayo on the radio yesterday. He had to tell a Mom recently that her kid died because she decided not to give him the vaccine. You want to be the parent that has to live with that the rest of their life.

There is NO EVIDENCE. None. That vaccines cause Autism. The freaks that started that rumor should be prosecuted for terrorism.
Nice argument against something I never said.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

I'm pretty sure Bob's only point was to inject abortion (again) into an unrelated discussion (again). For goodness sake, he thinks there's an industrial scale mass murder going on 24/7, so of course he's going to wave that flag every chance he gets. That's the freight cost with Bob; it's not like he hides it.

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

There was a woman on NPR this morning who didn't vax her kid, and he is autistic now. Oops. She's changed sides now, but I still can't decide if I would have just a little schadenfreude if the kid also gets measles...

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

Apparently Rand Paul isn't in support of vaccines either.

I wonder if he'd lock the Ebola patient up? Probably not. Christie did. Where's Jeb Bush on the issue? Can't wait till this gets asked at the first Republican debate. There's always the most true believers at those.

That would be mean. She getting measles, OTOH...

They'll all fall in line with whatever the base polling says. And since the GOP base lives in the 16th century, they'll advocate prayers and burning pitch.

Rand Paul is dangerous.

Two libertarians walk into a bar... and burn to death because they repealed the tyrannical statist fire codes.

But (sniff), they died free.

Actually my main thought that Scooby has been incapable of grasping is that I think parents should have some input into what vaccinations their children get, rather than having it dictated from on high by others. And of course some vaccinations are more critical to get than others and that's part of the mix. I wonder how many people have recently looked at the litany of vaccinations children are supposed to get now. It's a few multiples of what I had to get as a kid. If people did more than shrilly say how horrible each other is for having varying views, there is a lot of ground for a nuanced discussion of this subject. Alas, not much hope of that.

But, yah, you're right that I'm not excited about what goes on 24/7.

According to the vaccine Doc from Mayo that I listened to the number of "bugs" that kids are exposed to daily far exceed what is contained in all the vaccines they get. So, this "litany" issue you bring up is BS.

Having kids who have had to have a ton of vaccines recently I know differently. You are simply clueless. A real shocker.

We just need to label anti-vaxxers as moochers and the GOP will be right on board. Because that's what they're doing, mooching off the herd immunity the rest of us provide while weakening it at the same time.

The only exemption we should provide is for medical reasons. You're the one in a thousand that reacts negatively to a vaccine? Ok, you're exempt and get to be protected by the herd.

Yeah, I'm clueless. Dr. Ignorance.

Can so many vaccines, given so early in life, overwhelm a child's immune system, suppressing it so it does not function correctly?

No evidence suggests that the recommended childhood vaccines can “overload” the immune system. In contrast, from the moment babies are born, they are exposed to numerous bacteria and viruses on a daily basis. Eating food introduces new bacteria into the body; numerous bacteria live in the mouth and nose; and an infant places his or her hands or other objects in his or her mouth hundreds of times every hour, exposing the immune system to still more antigens. When a child has a cold they are exposed to at least 4 to 10 antigens and exposure to “strep throat” is about 25 to 50 antigens.

And that's from the CDC Bob. A bunch of idiots I'm sure.

Modern day vaccines cover about a dozen viruses/diseases - MMR (3), DPT (3), chicken pox, HPV, hepatitis, meningitis. Go ahead and count the flu in there too, and maybe a couple more I'm forgetting.

You're exposed to far more than that on the day you're born simply by taking your first breath.

So they said there are bacteria all over and we're all exposed to it? Quite the discovery you've made. If you don't think having 4-5 vaccines at a shot isn't hard on at least some kids, I can only conclude you've never been around kids or their medical care. It's not unusual for parents, at the least, to request an alternative vaccination schedule so that the kiddos don't have to get so many shots at once. And of course then you have the bundling of shots, but I won't broach that one with you, as you haven't grasped the last concepts I mentioned.

This illustrates the root of the problem. Parents who value their own casually informed opinions as greater than or equal to the experts' facts.

The only thing "dictating" anything is evidence. Who are you to say which are more critical to get than others? There is very good reasoning behind the recommended vaccine schedule by the CDC and AAP and the schedule is fluid within reason based on best available evidence. The vaccines that are recommended are critical in the sense that they have been shown to improve health outcomes and decrease preventable diseases. You claim to want nuanced discussion but think that occurs at the public level. It doesn't. The nuance is understood by experts and is fought out in the literature, not in the media.

The amount of background knowledge one needs to know to make an informed decision about vaccinations is staggering. Many physicians have no idea, and you would like parents to have the final say on such an important public heath issue? Most physicians follow the recommendations but others go off the deep end and that is where you get people as detached from reality as this guy. http://vaccineimpact.com/2015/arizo...ds-to-critics-regarding-measles-and-vaccines/
At best, he performs malpractice on a daily basis.

It saddens me when colleagues do not understand the principles behind evidence based medicine but to be honest, it does not necessarily affect their efficacy if they stay within reasonable recommendations.

And to your comment on the "litany" of vaccinations that children get now. Its bull****. "Too much too soon" is a dead concept, not supported by any research. In fact, in the 1980's, people received about 3,000 antigens total, as compared to 150 today. The vaccine number may be increasing but the antigen number is decreasing because, by golly, science allowed us to improve.

Beats dying from a preventable disease. I can only conclude you know very little about medicine. The Dunning-Kruger effect in you is just stunning.

I'd love to be there to see all you guys' faces if/when you actually find out the demographics of the "anti-vaxers." You'd be truly shocked.

Guess which U.S. presidential candidate was playing to his "rabid base of retards" when he said this to great applause as recently as 2008? "We’ve seen just a skyrocketing autism rate. Nobody knows exactly why. There are some people who are suspicious that it’s connected to vaccines and triggers, but -- this person included."

They're mostly rich elite white liberals in California. Already know that. And they're beyond stupid.
