Here are some of the youth demographic who are supposedly going to keep the Democrats in the majority in perpetuity. Good lord.

Two observations on that video:

1. Texas Tech and no ... engineering ... majors?
2. Derp-factor there? Pegged. New needle for meter on order.

Kids at American University in DC are way smrt-er. ;)
(Hint: "How many US Senators from each state?")

Rand Paul was very interesting in the opening interview segment on Bill Maher. Much less CYA on questions like the war on drugs, mass incarceration, climate change, and Syria than you'd expect from a Presidential candidate. Quite sane. The primaries are going to be interesting.

Yeah he was really good, didnt dodge the questions and admitted all the stuff that will kill him in the primaries most likely. (Climate Change is real, War is bad...etc)

If the non-crazies want to take back the party he is the guy that might be able to do it. He is the only true fiscal conservative of the bunch...

So, Keystone doesn't really affect the environment and it only creates 35 permanent jobs. What's the issue?

Re: Campaign 2016 - Run-HRC? Honest Injun? Gott Mitt Himmel? RyanRubioCruzCrud?

Hardly a jobs bill. Both sides of this mess should be ashamed of themselves.

I didn't know it was being sold as a jobs bill. MN needs the Keystone XL because the oil is being shipped by freight trains, which is taking up space that coal shipments used to occupy. Midwestern electric companies are worried that they're going to run out of coal or be very close to it before the end of the winter. That's not likely to change so long as oil continues to ship by rail.

Mitch just sold it that way this week. And I agree, this stupid pipeline needs to be built ASAP and it failed again.

Personally I support the pipeline but not for the reasons its proponents are spewing. It will create few jobs and the oil is meant for exporting so no help in the US gaining energy independence. I also think the oil will be extracted and transported one way or another. Rather I like it in that I want the US to control as much of the oil market as possible, especially if there's a crisis. Having Canadian oil go through the US helps further that goal.

What bothers me is the inability of Obama & the Dems to use this as a negotiating ploy to extract bigger pro-environmental legislation. Perhaps that's coming, but this is a golden opportunity to trade a relatively minor issue that's been built up way beyond its actual scope for something big.

Then nationalize the infrastructure. A privately-owned pipeline running across the US to help Multinational oil companies sell Canadian reserves to Japanese markets does nothing for the US. It is just another example of socializing costs and privatizing profits.

I think that's a bit extreme Kep. However if there was an oil supply crisis and I was running things I'd d@mn well keep that oil in the US for our use while compensating our Canadian friends of course. Its a nice option to have. Besides, Japan is one of our strongest allies.

True. The alternative however is it being shipped by rail which is worse.

Yeah, I'd like to believe that. But, it ain't happening yet and meanwhile they're still shipping the crap by rail.

It would be happening if we charged energy companies for externalities (rather than extending them subsidies... talk about stupid policy). GW2 cost what, $2T? Invoice it to Exxon-Mobil.

Preaching to the choir on that one.

Personally I'd build the pipeline anyway. I'd make it federally owned. And I tax (Carbon Tax) every drop that comes through there. And I'd make it illegal to ship it by rail at the same time.

Problem solved.
