We're talking strictly faces. Like Reagan, the minute Mitch opens his mouth the derp pours out and he becomes just another gargoyle. But (also like Reagan) as long as he keeps his mouth shut he's a likeable-looking chap.

Did you watch it? These are college students at a "respectable" university, and those are some very basic history and civics questions. I'm curious if all of those students were from Texas high schools or if the failings are more widespread.

Hillary's biggest problem is not 'baggage' or that she's establishment. IMO her biggest issue is that she's going to be a 70+ yo at a time when the rigors of the job and political opponents both domestic and foreign are as challenging as they've ever been. Can she actually work the 12+ hours of the day and stay on top of her game? Maybe. But can she sell that to voters and citizens? Don't think so.

Dayton would crash and burn. He's fine on principle and continues with a solid track record. But he is in no way a leader. Probably about as unelectable as Walker.

29,000 of Texas Tech's student body is from Texas or 95%. I would say that this is not a typical university.

Given how haggard she looked in the final year or two as SecState, I tend to agree. But if she's the Dem candidate, and the Republicans put up someone like Ted Cruz, it's over.

Rand Paul, Condi Rice, and either Bobby Jindal or Marco Rubio. It'll never happen, but that would certainly be a three-way Republican primary legitimately worth watching, since it covers all three flavors of the party fairly well. Who else could the Republicans throw out there that isn't just another village idiot?

Rand Paul would be interesting because interesting things would get said, albeit not necessarily by him, and interesting topics would be explored (same caveat).

Jindal is another village idiot, so no help from there. Rice is a chilling neocon ideologue but she would speak in complete sentences, which is a miracle for modern GOP candidates. Rubio is a used car salesman -- not very interesting, but again well above par for them.

Cruz would make the primaries an exercise in tripping balls. What if Newt Gingrich were more intelligent and less self-aware? I swear, Cruz could actually cause a singularity of High Weirdness to engulf the country and throw us into another dimension. I say risk it; I've had my run.

So is Hillary, but the two of them, even taken separately, have more brains and political gamesmanship that any man in the field. It's settled then - Hill vs. Condi 2016. We'll call it "The Battle of the Báthorys". :D

That would probably get me to vote Libertarian, provided they put up somebody from the Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll wing, as distinct from the Jesus Take the Wheel (of the Economy) wing.

On sheer intellect and acumen, however, you are right. There isn't a significant male aspirant in the same intellectual area code as those two.

Condi is pretty impressive as a candidate and pretty smart , but I'd have to get closer to her specific stances. I actually see a good chance that she would end up having an Obama type presidency. And although some won't believe me here, that statement has absolutely nothing to do with race but rather demeanor, intellect and style.

Ummm..."Condi" will have to answer for the folly that was the Iraq War, since she was nowhere to be found cautioning against it when the critical decisions were being made. Furthermore, she's pro-choice and when's the last time the GOP nominated somebody like that (hint: never).

It wouldn't be race -- a black Republican would cross the wires of the knucks but "Republican" would win. Plus we saw with Herman Cain how the GOP will run a doorstop out there and claim it somehow exonerates them from the racism latent in their policies. :rolleyes:

I don't think she'd run into Obama's egghead problem, either. Remember, she was Provost of Stanford -- that means she knows how to work a room and dial for dollars among the upper class twit of the year set. Ideal for fundraising a campaign. Also, Condi's rooted in the whole AEI/PNAC conveyor belt of geniuses that gave us the Iraq War, so she wouldn't be hurting for high leverage advisers and strong-arm politicos.

Her main political problem she would be skullduggery from the Bush Dynasty, since another Neocon would sink Jeb's chances for sure. Plus she might not pass muster on the clownshow that is the GOP nomination path. No sentient being is going to give more than a tepid deflection to climate change, and I can't imagine somebody with her chops falling into the "God said it / I believe it / That settles it" dope shuffle on stuff like evolution. She might even be sane on birth control, which would immediately DQ her.

She'd be an ideal VP hood ornament, but I think she's far too proud to be the GOP's lawn jockey. (How'd that work out, Colin Powell?)

Maybe. Condi being provost is something. But the typhoon of Washington can take down the best of them unless youre hard right and ruthless.
