On a different topic:

Hennepin County has 202k early votes, beating prior high of 82k in 2008.
Ramsey Co 63k early votes. Previous high was 30k in 08.

That is a LOT of early votes.

Mom's family goes back to Jamestown. Dad's side goes back to at least the 19th century. I'll tell her to suck it, but...look at her - I wouldn't go there, believe me. ;)

Again, we can disagree about whether it's justified or not. Personally I think it's a road we are better off not traveling down, especially if there is a chance that someone like Donald Trump could become President.

As you can see, I understood immediately that many of you were saying that the GOP stonewalling justified that actions. I think you are wrong about that. As I posted later, if you can't accomplish it legislatively through compromise, for whatever reason, you take it to the people in the election.

Since it's the biggest in the news, what, exactly, has the house and senate passed for immigration? And how has that ended up on the President's desk?

Same for energy policy.

If you *think* people are wrong that GOP is stonewalling, at least post some examples that they have done work. Even for the ACA- all they have done is try to repeal it- not any action on some ideas on what would replace it- even though we keep hearing about it.

Then there's the whole judicial nomination situation... how can one read the GOP response other than stonewalling?

I think you guys misread my sentence. I'm not claiming the GOP is not stonewalling. They are. I think it's a mistake, but it's the path they've chosen.

What I think is wrong is for us to support a system where to get around the stonewalling you simply have a President act by fiat. Instead, take the stonewalling to the election. That has been done here, and I think the GOP is going to lose the Senate (whether it will lose it due to stonewalling, Trump or other reasons isn't clear to me.)

Edit: "Misread" may not be the correct term. Misinterpreted may be better. I intended to write that you were wrong about the justification, not about the stonewalling.

He can only act via laws that are already in place. He's not making new laws, just interpreting the laws that are existing. That's exactly what the Executive Branch does.

Courts can (and do) decide if those interpretations are legal or not. Given that we've seen a solidly right SCOTUS turn down many republican laws and EO's, then it appears that the system works. Or are you just worried that democrats get the same power and they will disagree with you.

I agree but at least he isnt stonewalling...he admits sooner later they have to put someone through. Normally that would be yawnworthy but in this climate it is YUUUUUUGE!

Best guess is he's right on the Hillary Trump predictions. Its the 'showdowns' that I think he's sugarcoating a bit. Except a potential nailbiter in FL, the balance are looking more Hill.

Regardless of how the whole thing may shake out, this is just an unbelievably shameful night for white people.
