Campaign 2016 Part XXIV: Both candidates are the same, but here's why yours is awful

I was messing around on 270towin this morning and it wasn't exactly difficult to get to a 269-269 tie. Anyone care to speculate what might happen if neither candidate gets to 270? Sniffles? Ryan? Cruz? Pence? Someone we haven't heard of yet?

Has to be somebody in the top 3 in EV, so it would be Trump unless the GOP is patriotic. (Hint: it isn't.)

If McMullin picks up Utah, he would be in the mix.

Yes.

Also if the WA Faithless Elector goes rogue I guess that one EV would qualify under the 12th.

So that's how we wind up with President Comey. It was the perfect plan.

I heard a rumor the other day that there are a bunch of hidden Cruz supporters as Republican electors, and in the event of a 269-269 tie, we could have a handful of faithless electors go for Cruz putting him in the mix. That would certainly be interesting.

Also interesting in the 269-269 tie scenario, is if the Democrats retake the Senate, Kaine would likely be Vice President. Given the general understanding that Trump doesn't really want to govern, it would certainly make for an odd couple.

Preach on Brother Handy! I too don't get polling a race and totally disregarding what's actually happening in terms of early votes. CNN had Trump up 7% in Nevada while 2/3rds of the vote is in and Hillary is probably up by 6 or 7% in actual votes? Oookaaayyy...;)

Yes yes I understand old people who lean to Trump are more likely to show up on Election day. But if she has a 10% lead as alleged in both FL and NC and 60-70% of the total vote is already in, you have to bake that into any prediction at this point.

Well in Nevada, especially Clark she is ahead of where Obama was at this point (and I believe she is ahead in whatever county Reno is in as well) so even if they come out in 2012 levels for Drumpf it wont be enough. ****ing off Latinos is going to be his undoing in many places.

Exactly. Once it becomes clear that no one has 270 the electors who are not bound by law to vote for their state's chosen candidate might flip from Sniffles to Cruz or Pence. Or some billionaire like Sheldon Adelson might get a dozen or so electors together and motivate them to choose a candidate of his liking to finish third and next thing we know, that person is the new president.

No no, they love Sniffles. Just ask Mike Pence.

I wonder what the Cubs owners' Super PAC will do now since all their ads are about being under investigation by the FBI.

Facts didn't matter to them yesterday, I doubt they will tomorrow.

Are you positing a Trump pres, Kaine veep? I don't believe that is possible anymore. My understanding is since the 12th P/VP is a package deal.

That's the thing. Trump voters in particular, and to a somewhat lesser extent Republican voters in general, are no longer motivated by facts. They are voting on sheer emotion, so you can say anything in the ad that hits their feeder bar. AFAIK there is no law against lying in a political ad. You can say "Hillary Clinton has been found guilty of 12 murders" and there's nothing anybody can do about it. Previously the thing that would stop somebody from doing that was the backlash from the voters, but with Trump there will be by definition no backlash -- it will only ratchet them higher.

Trump is a candidate for people who believe FNC and Conservapedia and don't trust science and the dictionary.

No. 12th says House decides President, Senate decides Vice President.
