You know your FBI career is dead when you're given the job of investigating the Weiner phone. That, or you lost a really big office bet.

Because that wouldn't further politicize the office at all... :rolleyes:

I'm not sure whether the FBI director serves at the discretion of the president or whether he has a guaranteed tenure like the Chair of the Fed. I would kinda hope he did -- I'd prefer the FBI to be independent of the president for instances in which, you know, the president is a criminal or a sociopath.

To give him the benefit of doubt, someone probably found a way to leak that something was happening, so he wanted to explain what it was so the leaks didn't get out of control, though his letter to 8 GOP committee chairs was probably a very poor way to do that.

I agree and I wrote something similar earlier. However, he had a duty to say this was part of the Weiner investigation, its 3 e-mails, and they came from her government server. His vagueness was absurd, and on Wednesday after the votes are counted he needs to be publicly fired. This was a major screw up on his part.

I hate to say it but I agree with Rover. He had to know that how he worded his letter to the Hill it would look ****ing to the media who is starved for a story. He should have had a PC explaining what was going on...
