Campaign 2016 Part XVII: If debates are great theater, I think this one closes early

This is because of corporate sponsorship. In the first few months leading up to war and then after hostilities commence the vast majority of people are baboons and if you denounce the war you are a traitor to the tribe and should be strung up. In times of fear and violence most people become temporarily reactionary and authoritarian. Corporate culture already accentuates these characteristics since they make people easier to control and assemble as armies, whether literal, or in employment, or in consumption. "The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity." War fever is terrifying and a commercial entity is going to march right alongside it.

And this perfectly describes the public reactions to both Gulf Wars. The difference being we got out of the first one quickly enough (as far as what most people considered as our military involvement) and there was far less chance for sentiment to turn, while the second one was the gift that kept on giving year after year after year.

I put it in the NFL thread. Too busy talking about USCHO fantasy football in there to drum up more than one response.

I'll put this here because of the political connection.

Today, boys and girls, we're going to learn about Cause and Effect!

For sake of that man's future with humanity, let alone any sort of professional future, he should be limited to cell phones that cannot use applications or texting features. He should have one of those phones that were marketed for parents to give their grade school kids, the ones that can only call up to five or six different numbers.

...it's time for Trump to say or do something insane Wednesday.
This line...
Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson says none of it is really that complicated, however.
"He hasn't changed his position on immigration. He's changed the words that he is saying,"

I really wish I had the stones to use that line in college. "No, see my answer in solving for X is correct, I just changed what the other parts of the problem were to fit my answer."

As I saw somebody else say, Anthony Weiner is living proof that the 'Clintons have people murdered' conspiracy theory is bunk.

That said, and as stupid as he is, I can't help but feel a little uneasy about the whole thing. His name isn't on a ballot, nor is he working for anyone whose name is on a ballot. Broadcasting the personal business of a private citizen for the sheer tawdriness of it is extremely sleazy.

That's hysterical.

“I only worry for the country in that Hillary Clinton was careless and negligent in allowing Weiner to have such close proximity to highly classified information,” he then pivoted. “Who knows what he learned and who he told? It's just another example of Hillary Clinton's bad judgment. It is possible that our country and its security have been greatly compromised by this.”

"Hello, Pot? Yeah, this is Kettle calling..."

I'm glad she finally turfed his arse. Weiner needs like 6 months in a secure psychiatric facility where no smart phones or any sort of digital media is allowed. What an idiot.

Why would anybody with half a brain hold responsible a candidate who's aide's husband is caught doing something stupid (not illegal, just pathetic)? Yes, I'm sure this will get some play with the Duck Dynasty crowd, but weren't they all voting Trump anyway?

Former Trump advisor Sam Nunberg agreed, telling the Post that the GOP candidate wants to be the "showstopper at the Roman Colosseum, the main event at WrestleMania" to Clinton's "professional and wonky" counterpoint.

I know how he feels. I hate when heart surgeons spend all of their time in heart surgery repairing hearts rather focusing on show-stopping dance numbers. I mean, what's really important here?

Well, I think we have our answer. But as many have pointed out, if Trump wants the guilt by association of one's staffers to be the standard of judgment for this campaign, I think the Clintons will be willing to take him up on it. :p

The problem is because of Trump nothing will change after this cycle. The Senate will filibuster everything Hillary does and the House won't pass it anyway so who cares what the Senate does?

Hillary's legacy will be the Supreme Court unless the GOP finds some way to keep that vacant like they have all the other Courts throughout the country. They figure that out and Hillary's legacy will end up like Obama's. A few key but much less than GW executive orders.

This is going to be a complete ****show come January.
