This, and I'm sure its hard for him to let go. Look, he's got a week until the DC primary. May as well go through the motions and let them have their vote. He apparently requested the meeting with Obama tomorrow as well. The next few days and over the weekend gives everyone a cooling off period while the campaigns do some horse trading behind the scenes.

He already has the ability to do that. He needs to drop out and get behind the nominee. The other side is backing racism so his ideals are a long way from where the American People are at right now.

Either way is valid. The moment he drops out the networks stop covering him. When was the last time you heard a story on Ted Cruz?
If I were he I would remain in but start hammering Trump relentlessly and not even mentioning Hillary, and I would explain staying in by saying I want every voter to have the opportunity to vote and I want every liberal to be able to add to the total so we can see the full strength of the liberal wing.
Then, after the final primary is in the books, I would suspend my campaign but ask my delegates to convene a pre-convention meeting to draft liberal language to fight for in the platform. Have that committee (no longer a man, but a movement) release a declaration stating where the left is at. Then see what we can get at the convention, but already be on the record with what we want. Build a Liberal Caucus, with grassroots organization and reach back. Copy the Tea Party -- they went from crazy fringe to capturing their party and controlling the national discourse in 5 years.

In my experience on internet forums, so-called "Libertarians" are nothing more than right-wingers who want to fancy themselves as some sort of above the fray of party politics superior beings. But when push comes to shove, they back Republican candidates 100%.

That may be small-l libertarians on internet forums, but believe me, there are real capital-L Libertarians who wouldn't p-ss on a Republican if he was on fire. I know -- I used to be one.

The Libertarian party has gone through a rather tawdry recent history, with backbiting between a dozen sub-factions: People's Front of Judea vs Judean Popular Front, etc. The arguments are vicious and stupid -- c.f. leftists in the 1950s and 60s. They really blew their one big chance when Dubya made "Republican" synonymous with "ineptitude," but they couldn't even win founders like the Kochs back let alone broaden the party.
So they're not hypocrites. They're dilettantes, which in politics is worse, because at least hypocrites get elected.

A Johnson-Weld ticket, two moderate former GOP governors, might fare better than the standard Libertarian ticket which usually revolves around old guys dressing up as Napoleon and proposing to privatize the sidewalks. They do give refuge to business friendly educated Goopers who can't believe Trump has taken over. Heck, that ticket might even hit the elusive 2% of the vote that the party has yet to crack.
I don't see them having any impact on the race however.

What is frightening is the possibility (probability?) that Trump is not a racist--that he is a savvy carnival barker who knows what most of the rednecks walking by need to hear before they will stop and give him money to throw at the milk bottles.
It's the number of folks who will stop and play that is frightening. Some of whom are your Aunt Sallie, who you never thought . . . .
