Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Bernie won!?!?!?

He might have won the state, but he's got 0 chance of catching Hillary in delegates. He needs to win every remaining state by around 30 points at a minimum to catch her.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

I grow weary of candidates promising safety from vague threats.

I might actually have to bring a clothespin to the ballot box this year. And take a long shower afterward.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Break out the old paper bags from the Lions' 0-16 season while you're waiting in line to vote.

I know you're not thinking of voting for Trump.

Bernie needs 101% of the remaining D delegates.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Wouldn't shock me if the RNC convention ends up being duckies and bunnies and the Democratic Convention ends up being all out war.

Is this before or after Walker gets nominated? :D

In other news:

TRUMP, BABY!!! ALL THE WAY!!!

Now, any conservative with half a brain has to vote for Hillary. I love it! Now you know how I felt when confronted with a Michigan-Boston College national championship back in the day.

Oh, regarding the Dems. No problem with Bernie playing for all 9 innings. He'll win a couple more states before she locks it up in CA and NJ in June and that's fine. Contest has gone this long so might as well let everyone vote, including DC at the end.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Bernie needs 101% of the remaining D delegates.

That's to clinch the nomination before the convention without any super delegates. To overtake her in pledged delegates, and presumably have the supers follow him, he needs to beat her by 291 delegates in the last month, according to the current AP numbers of 1700-1410. So he'd need about 63% of the vote from here on out. If every state was Oregon, he'd have a great shot.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

I read somewhere that of the 10 largest states (CA hasn't voted yet) Sanders lost 8 of them (TX, FL, NY, IL, PA, GA, NC, OH) and won 1 (MI). He got crushed in almost all of those by double digits. Therein lies his problem especially when CA and NJ vote.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Does Reince always sound like he's drunk? I swear he's slurring words on CBS right now.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Its open season on sanctimonious conservatives! Get your shots in while you can!

Know the neighbor who practically announced with a bullhorn that they're attending church every Sunday? Their Mr. Morals candidate is....Trump.

Or the Rambo wannabe who never bothered to join the service but thinks the Iraq War was a swell idea? Their blame Bush for Iraq and 9/11 candidate is...Trump.

How about the conservative intellectual National Review crowd who thinks the GOP is the party of ideas? They're voting for...Trump!

This is too funny!

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

The Donald's finishing move was accusing his opponent's father of having a hand in the JFK assassination. What a world.

They still claim they won't, but there's plenty of time for them to discover that in their heart Hillary is "too dangerous" to the republic, etc, etc.

This really is The Moment for conservatives to live up to their self-conception of bravely "standing athwart history yelling halt!" No conservative of conscience can vote for Drumpf, so this election is when we separate the men from the boys.

That's just a metaphor, Hastert!

Vigo County is voting for Trump.

There, the roughly 108,000 citizens of Vigo County, Indiana, self-described as “The Crossroads of America,” have been a perfect indicator in 30 of the 32 general elections since 1888. They haven’t missed the mark now for 60 years.

This year it seems Vigo County is sold on GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

Well done, sir! :D

I fully expect Trump to get the same voters as Mittens. Really, aside from Mormons and hedge fund guys, who's more excited by Romney than by Trump? Maybe nobody?

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

November in one chart.

Politico reported today on a Florida poll conducted for a business group in the state that shows Hillary Clinton beating Donald Trump by 13 points and Ted Cruz by nine.

Why is that important? Because if Clinton wins Florida and carries the 19 states (plus D.C.) that have voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in each of the last six elections, she will be the 45th president. It's that simple.

You and Rover still don't get it.

Large segments of conservatives have no intention of voting for Trump. But they ain't voting for the old iron horse either.

They'll go in and vote for their Senate candidate and House candidate and local races and leave the Presidential ballot blank. And Hillary will win. But in the meantime you and Hillary and the rest of the left can spend six months rolling around in the mud with Trump. And you will roll around in the mud with him. No chance the Clintonistas listen to Trump call Hil a liar and a thief and a traitor and blah, blah, blah for six months and don't respond.

In fact, it starts now, even before Clinton officially dispatches Bernie. Bernie will be banging away from the left and meanwhile Donald will be calling her names every night and reminding her of Monica. Those of us who despise Trump won't be happy he's on the ticket, but we'll get a chuckle out of the clown show since we no longer have a dog in the fight.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Hovey there is zero chance the GOP holds the Senate if Trump gets crushed. Worse yet and what I don't think you're considering is that Trump is going to drive up minority turnout to vote against him as well as anybody with an R next to their name. Already Hispanic voter registration is skyrocketing. Did you think that was happening in anticipation of a Rubio nomination?

If I were a movement conservative I'd run a third party candidate for this very reason. Assume the presidency is lost and concentrate on getting as many anti-Dems to the polls as possible to save the Senate. Stall the government for another 4 years and then blame it on Hillary for "being divisive." Come back with a strong, photogenic, competent conservative candidate in 2020.
