Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Starts? I think it started sometime back in 1992, at a minimum. :)

Probably before that in Arkansas.

But at least this time it's inevitable. Any Democratic nominee has to get used to being called a Statist Socialist Satanist. :)

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

Hillary would call herself all three of those things, if she knew it would guarantee her the White House. :D

Twas ever thus:

Most sweet voices!
Better it is to die, better to starve,
Than crave the hire which first we do deserve.
Why in this woolvish toge should I stand here,
To beg of Hob and Dick, that do appear,
Their needless vouches? Custom calls me to't:
What custom wills, in all things should we do't,
The dust on antique time would lie unswept,
And mountainous error be too highly heapt
For truth to o'er-peer.
Rather than fool it so,
Let the high office and the honour go
To one that would do thus. I am half through;
The one part suffer'd, the other will I do.

"We all have our flaws, but Dennis Hastert has very few" --Tom "The Hammer" DeLay.

Felons of a feather stick together I guess.

You forgot voiding yourself into your undergarments.

I'm surprised but not shocked. You can insult your opponent without making it sound like an insult, but you need to use big words and have an impressive vocabulary.

Campaign rhetoric has been reduced to the vocabulary of the playground.

I am one confused, little 29 year-old boy... :p

Except that's not fully true...I get it. For the Kochs, it's all about the Benjamins. The Red Queen is a better prospect for globalism than "Things that go Trump in the Night".

It's generally better for business to not be in a country that's on fire. He said he liked Bernie a month ago, too.

He likes Bernie for a subset of his policies. Anytime Charles Koch gives one of these interviews, his support is almost always given in pieces and caveat, never blanket support.

Re: Campaign 2016 Part XI: the Two Party Problem

My local town in the news.

“Last Thursday, I was thrown out of a Ted Cruz rally because I am visibly trans.

I am a teen with a high interest in politics, and when I found out Cruz was coming to my town, I was very excited...I begged my mom to take me so I could see him in person and maybe gain a better understanding of his platform. I was aware he was very transphobic, but I hoped after seeing him speak, I could understand how his message resonated with so many. I also wanted to be a face for trans people, because I knew there were many in the audience who had never met a trans person before, and I thought that seeing me might counter some of his rhetoric. I wanted them to see that Cruz’s words can hurt people like me. I wasn’t there to protest him; I wanted the mostly Republican people in the audience to see who I am, and know I am not a predator, or dangerous, or a freak.

I was very respectful when we sat down in the venue. I just sat there looking at my phone. Before he even came on stage, I was forcibly removed without a reason by a security guy and a local cop. They refused to give me a reason and told me that the campaign didn’t want me present. I was wearing a trans pride flag and a tshirt from NCTE.

I was denied the right to hear a presidential candidate speak based solely on my identity. When I tried to tell the volunteers from the campaign and the local Republican party, they laughed at me.

I want the Cruz campaign to be held accountable for their actions. By throwing me out before I had a chance to even hear Cruz’s opinions, they are sending a very clear message to trans and LGBT teens that we are not welcome, and that we are second class citizens.”

This kid just demonstrated more dignity, intelligence, and bravery than the entire Republican party for the past decade.

Cruz' politics isn't about values or humanity, it's about demonization and appealing to fear and bigotry in a cynical bid to gain power. To quote Sweeney Todd, "You are young. You will learn." :(

Appreciate what the kid is trying to do, but in regards to this quote : "By throwing me out before I had a chance to even hear Cruz’s opinions, they are sending a very clear message to trans and LGBT teens that we are not welcome, and that we are second class citizens.” I think we all already knew this about the Cruz campaign.

If Cruz was smart he would meet with the kid and talk to him. Cruz styles himself an intellectual. One of the hallmarks of an intellectual is hunger for understanding and knowledge of the unfamiliar. #whatwouldmontaigndo

I think he'd do that if he was already the nominee purely to get good press. "Look, I'm not a monster! I talked to a transgender kid!!!". Right now though he sees an opening vs Trump who said Caitlin Jenner can use whatever bathroom feels more comfortable if on one of Trump's properties. Unfortunately for Calgary Ted we're out of Deep South and Plains states primaries IIRC.
