Campaign 2016 - It's never too late to start all over again!

Re: Campaign 2016 - It's never too late to start all over again!

Name your price, name your odds and name a time and I will bet you. There is (almost) zero chance this state votes GOP in the next election. It would take a Minnesotan at the top of the ticket, from Minneapolis, with a track record of being a centrist for it to even be an even money chance...

I get your bit, but come on Minneapolis controls where the electoral votes go and Minneapolis is as blue as it gets.

And we still elected Pawlenty, and Emmer came as close as you can get. Sorry, not taking any chances on this one.

Re: Campaign 2016 - It's never too late to start all over again!

An emergency excise tax hike on gas would be less unpopular. Tolling the interstates is to white people in Virginia what cops murdering people in their custody is to black people. The line in the sand. They will be burning Whole Foods and looting "Le Tache." We'll have to blow the Potomac Bridges to keep crazed NoVa whites from threatening PG County.

So instead of throwing more money at the problem, they should throw more money at the problem. Got it. I'll give you that Virginia is one of the lower gas tax states along the eastern seaboard (hence why gasbuddy usually has them green on the map), but let's not create a path for the exact same problems that Rhode Island is having with highway funding now.

Re: Campaign 2016 - It's never too late to start all over again!

Handy we need all hands on deck

. . .

So, get on the bandwagon. Could be the difference between Bernie Sanders getting legislation enacted or Bernie Sanders giving speeches on C-SPAN to an empty Senate chamber as part of the minority.

You want us on the bandwagon but you snigger "Lizzy" at one of the only voices of clarity and honesty in Congress? That is the epitome of Clinton's tin-eared, Sophomore Class Treasurer arrogance.

It is true we can flip the House with a wave election -- the pundits are assuming another 48/48 split election because that's what is most probable. To create that wave we need to motivate every Democrat to go to the polls. The vast majority of the Democrats who don't typically vote have been abandoned by the party in favor of the very Wall Street policies that Hillary is wed to. Having Hillary as the nominee creates a self-contradiction that she has to fix if she wants to accomplish anything, because obviously if she faces a Congress with GOP majorities they'll play their SOP of sucking their thumbs and then blaming her for "divisiveness."

She's in a pickle unless she realizes that DLC politics is dead and 50-state muscular liberalism is her only way to a mandate.

You mistook what I meant. I was not recommending an emergency excise tax hike. I was saying as insanely unpopular as that would be, Obama managed to hit on an even more insanely unpopular idea, and that suggests he's basically trolling Congress.

Kep I'm a big fan of Lizzy Warren and I don't think she minds the nickname! So chill out already..geesh. Rover Nation was behind her while IIRC YOU were thinking she was going to lose that race in the months leading up to it.

Good thing Hillary came out on record as wanting to adopt the Dean 50 state strategy a few weeks ago. Also I'd point out Dean himself has endorsed Clinton.

More of a "Whatevah, I do what I want!" than a troll.

Oh, I definitely thought she would lose. I assumed she came across as too smart and would scare/offend the sort of people who hate that. I think we have different ideas of what "behind" means. But like I told Bob weeks ago, your job is to get us elected, and my job is to make sure that election means something.

The last time this state voted its EC votes to a Republican was in 1972. Given the how every since Dayton was elected no statewide offices are currently held by the GOP, I agree with you 100% here. The GOP will continue to get some GOP candidates elected within the various Congressional districts, but statewide offices will be trumped by Minneapolis and St. Paul proper for the foreseeable future.

Re: Campaign 2016 - It's never too late to start all over again!

Handy we need all hands on deck. Case in point:

Its widely assumed by pundidiots that the GOP has a lock on the House of Representatives until redistricting kicks in 7 years from now. This is based more or less on a 30 seat majority for The Boner and crew. However, 26-28 of these GOP held seats are in Obama districts. So, it seems to me the trick to winning back the House is winning back the Dem seats that the GOP holds, a very similar strategy to how the GOP took back the House in 2010.

So, we need everyone to enthusiastically back the top of the ticket and the down ballot races. Yes, Dems will win Minny, but that win needs to be large enough to have a trickle down effect and oust several GOP congressmen in your state.

Oddly enough, Lizzy Warren, the hero of many a lefty, epitomizes this strategy. She was the ONLY Mass Dem not named Vicky Kennedy who could have beaten that simpleton Scott Brown before he got entrenched. However Brown had a decent chance at ticket splitting despite Obama crushing Romney in the state. The key was to have Obama run up such a big margin of victory, that even after ticket splitters Brown was still doomed. Libs stay home and Brown could have pulled through. In fact libs came out even though state was never in question, and despite winning a good share of Obama voters, Brown couldn't get 20% of the people voting Dem for President to turn around and vote for him. He might have gotten half that, which was d@ mn good truth be told.

So, get on the bandwagon. Could be the difference between Bernie Sanders getting legislation enacted or Bernie Sanders giving speeches on C-SPAN to an empty Senate chamber as part of the minority.

WE dont need anything...I am not one of you. I do this moron thing called thinking (copyright George Carlin) if I dont like someone I dont vote for them. Selling out to cruddy Dem candidates because I lean left is not something I do.

Scooby,

Then put your money where your mouth is. It wont happen...you are comparing state elections to the general it is not the same thing. This state is Dem all the way. Stop believing the fear mongering this isnt a battleground state it wont even be close.

It is basic math, the Twin Cities have the population to silence the outstaters when it comes to the general election. That was why Marriage Equality was in the bag as soon as it went to a vote and why this state will be Blue for quite some time. Outside of a few rogue suburbs no one is voting GOP especially when they are fundy level right wing.

Heck, you're the only state (aside from DC) that went Democrat in the 1984 election!

New York is the same way, with NYC being the effective only say in our state government. Has your state tried any separation from MSP yet? Not sure how feasible it is, though.

I think Rover meant "We" in the sense of "civilized humans trying to hold back the tide of Neo-conservative brutality." Though I'll admit he's as snotty and imperious as his gal Ms. Macbeth, he is correct that the line between sanity and madness is thin and needs to hold. In the event, nobody is less happy about this than I. :(

Look on the bright side. Maybe she'll die.

In 1984, the Dem candidate was Walter Mondale... the former MN Senator, so it makes sense through and through as to how this state voted against the rest of the nation.

The State of MN will never separate itself of either St. Paul or Minneapolis. Outside of the Twin Cities, this state doesn't have much to offer outside of tourism. Besides, the combined population of the two cities is ~700K, the remainder of metro area is ~2.3MM, and the remaining 80 rural counties are another ~2.5MM. About 55% of this state's population revolves around those two cities. The state will never separate itself of them.

Sorry but Rovers BS is no more palatable than most of the Righties. He and his Pantsuited Cyborg Lover are everything I despise about politics. Just because he fights against those I deem wrong doesnt make him right.

As I said in the Dubya elections, the lesser of two evils is still evil...

My opinion is that outstate MN generally appreciates the cities and the cities appreciate the outstate areas (esp for recreation). Politically, the only conservatism is in pockets, which are not that distant from the cities and therefore rely to a certain extent on them. Further outstate areas, such as the far north, are moderate to liberal anyways. I've never heard of a split concept in regards to MN before it was mentioned in this thread.

I fully sympathize, but some risks are too great to take. "Come with me if you want to live."

When you get to norther parts of MN, the liberal that you find there isn't like the liberal that you'll find in the Twin Cities. Most of the folk that you talk to up there are DFL because their parents, generally due to union involvement with the mining industry or dock workers around Duluth. The tend to be fairly conservative on social issues, though loosening up somewhat in the past 10-20 years. As to the pockets of conservatism in this state, it's mostly found in well off suburban areas and it generally focuses on fiscal issues with a more relaxed outlook on social issues (except for buying alcohol or cars on Sundays). When you go into southern reaches of the state, especially SW Minnesota, that's where you'll find some truly conservative people. They're not open to liberal social issues and their money is not for got the government but rather for their fields. Until it comes to farming subsidies, then they love those retitled welfare payments.
