Bayer has finished their takeover of Monsanto, and the name "Monsanto" will be dropped.

So people will need to use a different company name when claiming that GMO has put mind-control into their corn?

Yeah, "March Against Bayer" doesn't have the same ring to it. Don't know what you could use for Syngenta either.

IHOP is now IHOb where the b means burgers.

Ultimate zing
@Wendys: @soIoucity @IHOb Not really afraid of the burgers from a place that decided pancakes were too hard.

No trademarks have been filed for IHOb. Just saying. It's all promotional and far too many people are getting worked up over a company that just can't make tasty food.

If you’re a chemical engineer or work in a field with chemicals, get ye to ACHEMA in 2021. Holy frijoles this this is huge. A normal tech conference is like one hall, maybe two.

This has 12. And they are all enormous. And they all have 2-4 floors.

There is something like 4,000 vendors.

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 7: Workers of the world unite!

Gee, what a ****ING SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!! This is so amazing. I NEVER would have guessed.

The new corporate tax cuts are unlikely to stimulate the level of job creation and wage growth that the Trump administration has promised, a trio of prominent economists has concluded, because high tax rates were not pushing much investment out of the United States in the first place.

Instead, the researchers conclude, multinational corporations based in the United States and other advanced economies have sheltered nearly 40 percent of their profits in tax havens like Bermuda, depriving their domestic governments of tax revenues and enriching wealthy shareholders. That number suggests a jarringly large amount of what appears, to policymakers, to be investment pushed abroad by high tax rates is instead an accounting trick — so-called paper profits — which tax cuts will not reverse.

“This idea that if you cut taxes, you’ll attract a lot of physical capital, a lot of investment to the United States, I don’t think is supported by the evidence,” said Gabriel Zucman, an economist at the University of California, Berkeley, and one of the paper’s authors. “Paper profits — that doesn’t boost wages for workers. What boosts wages is actual factories.”

One reason I left Muskegon: can't get excited over local restaurants that serve good food, but fell all over themselves when IHOP came to Muskegon a year or so ago.

Muskegon is one of those places I do not believe is real.

See also: Waukegan, Peoria, Toledo, Kalamazoo.

My hometown has a weird habit of pouring money into any and all newly opened chain restaurants; it goes on for months. After the fervor over IHOP died, some six months after it opened, I went there for my first visit. It's also been my last visit. I just don't understand how that place stays open. It's not just standard chain stuff, it's well below standard chain stuff. It's as if McDonald's decided to open up a restaurant with a wait staff.

I'm guessing for the same reason Steak N Shake stays open. 24 hours. Caters to late night drunks.

Denny's makes IHOP look like haute cuisine.

My work has a high turnover rate, and keeping it below a certain percentage was part of the annual bonus. Well, we suck at that, so they changed the bonus criteria.
