Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

Rumor has it that Trumps new tax policy will not include a tax cut for the rich 'the rich will not be gaining at all with this plan'...and 'if they (taxes on the rich) have to go higher, they'll go higher'.

There are two possibilities.

1. That's just going to be righty bullsh-t and this will be the same old theft. 99% likelihood.

2. This is for real and will go nowhere with a Republican Congress. 1% likelihood.

It could be time for them to show Trump the Bill Hicks Film.

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

Most likely scenario is that its somewhere in the middle and if it passes, nobody is truly happy.

A scenario where a GOP congress votes it down is paydirt. Trump does not deal well with traitors.

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

I'd bet many pay that already every month.

Historically the poor have been screwed by the GOP...they've been sold a bill of goods and then the rich have gotten the rewards. We have a potential reversal situation where many rich might have been sold a bill of goods and get screwed. Frankly, this makes some logical sense - this cycle many of Trumps new supporters are disenfranchised poorer whites. The old southern strategy is playing itself out into their northern rural neighbors...and GOP policy may be affected.

Trump has better political instincts that the people in his party, and he seems to like Ryan and McConnell at lot less than the national media does. Its going to be real hard to generate much public support for a massive tax cut for wealthy people. I think corporations are going to make out like bandits, but the notion that the top tier tax rate is going to be 25% is DOA. The problem I see is people like Itch and the Weasel are going to be pushing for this until the end of this Congress as its their only reason to exist.

Re: Business, Economics & Tax Policy 5.0: Can a blind nut find a squirrel?

No, I get that. But let's be honest, the garbage on regular TV is hardly worth watching anyways. So it's pretty analogous.

The only problem I have with the U.K.'s system is that unlike our progressive TV access fees, theirs is a regressive fee.

I think you missed it. The $200 is a tax to allow you to turn on the TV and watch BBC, SKY, etc. Even if you don't have cable, you're paying the pounds to Her Majesty's government.

Considering that the U.S.'s approach to the public airwaves, ie auctioning them off and/or giving them away, has its own issues, I think a saying about people in glass houses applies.

Northrop Grumman to buy Orbital ATK for $7.8 billion.

Ugh.

Orbital was a really good company.

When I was a wee lad there were the following big aircraft manufacturers
Boeing
Douglas
Martin
Lockheed
North American
Consolidated
Grumman
Vought
Northrup
Vultee

If you flew, it either in a Boeing, Douglas or a Lockheed.

The Navy flew primarily Grummans, with odd duck manufacturer thrown in.

The Air Force bombers were Martin or Boeing. Fighters were all over the place with Douglas, North American, Vultee and a few others making jets go real fast.

I'm feeling nostalgic.

Consolidated
Vought
Vultee

Never heard of these.

Fairchild was based near my high school newspaper's print facility. And there was Hughes, of course.

Taco Bell to open "cantina" style restaurants.

That's what you get when you buy it by the yard.

Don't give white trash money.

Speaking of, I was down around Clifton, VA this weekend. My god, there must be a higher density of New Jersey Brickface Xanadus there than any place outside of Greenwich or San Francisco. I fully recommend locals drive around on a nice fall day to gawk at the bozos. These people need to be taxed at > 100%.

I take it you've been to Saddle River and Upper Saddle River?
