Making me nervous for some upcoming travel- we can hope that our flight will get canceled in enough time that we can drive to our destination....

I think we will see the FAA force airlines to reduce their number of flights, and airlines jack up their ticket prices as a result. Until the FAA can hire more highly trained and under appreciated chumps, we will continue to see demand exceed supply.

Agreed, and this will get even worse if we lose Spirit to Chapter 7 as a ULCC check on the legacies. They control a large percentage of the other seats sold at legacies' fortress hubs, especially in the Northeast and Midwest.
