BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

BU has a verbal from 6-1, 200 LW Mike Moran, who captained Taft last season and will play for Penticton in the BCHL this year. Moran, who is from Marshfield, Mass., was Taft’s co-scoring leader with 13-10-23 and its top goal-scorer last year.

He’s BU's second 2012 recruit playing in the BCHL this year. Marc Hetnik, Jr., is a blueliner for Vernon.

After two games with Penticton, one of the top BCHL teams, Moran was traded to celler-dweller Victoria. Injuries had forced the Vees to trade for a d-man. Moran earned the first star in one of his two Penticton games and was first star again this past Saturday with two goals in a Victoria win. Now has 4-3-7 in six league games.

In a match-up of the top U18 teams in the Massachusetts Selects League, 2013 recruit Brendan Collier scored a hattrick and added an assist in GBL Junior Bruins 7-3 win against the Cape Cod Whalers. Collier--7-7-14 in four games--is the league’s top scorer.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Hi: Does anyone know what the status of Cam Darcy's decision between BU and BC is? Last I heard he was supposed to have made a decision sometime last month. Thanks.

USHR reported that neither BU nor BC have offered him yet and that he's talking to Northeastern again. Vermont, too. And some Western schools are interested, too. It could be that Darcy's stock is falling. NHL Central Scouting had given him an "A" rating last Spring, but now has rated him a B.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Very positive write-up on winger Robert Polesello by Int'l Scouting Services. I had to read the last sentence twice.

Robert Polesello, F, Indiana ICE
Looks to have made a quick adjustment to USHL. Currently leads the Indiana Ice in goals with 4 in 3 games while helping the Ice go undefeated. Polesello is a smaller, skilled offensive minded forward that possesses great tools. He is an exceptional skater, displaying a ton of speed and quickness that allows him to dart in and out of the open ice and create separation. His quickness is likely the best in this draft class and matches much of the best players in the world in that regard.

This is nice, but I'm a little dubious of Hockey's Future.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Big recruiting win for BU.

USHR reports that 6’2”, 180 lb. LC Wesley Myron (photo) of the Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL) has committed to Boston University for next fall.

Myron was #3 on USHR’s list of top uncommitted NCAA prospects for 2012. USHR describes him as “a tall, lanky kid with the frame of an NHL-type center, a strong skater who has shown a lot of finish in the BCHL.”

Centering the Grizzlies’ top line, he’s 7th in BCHL scoring with an 8-15-23 line in 13 games. A week ago Thursday, he scored a hattrick and an assist in a 7-1 win, then traveled East to visit BU and UNH. While he was away, fellow 2012 recruit Mike Moran took his place on the top line and had a hattrick

Myron recently was named to the Canada West selection camp for the upcoming World Junior A Challenge. St. Cloud and Michigan also were interested in him, too.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Where did BU find the scholarship for Wes Myron? I was under the impression that they didn't have any to offer when Cam Darcy re-committed to NU. Looking at their roster, BU graduates five players, including both goalies. Right now, they have six incoming recruits, only one of which is a goalie. You would think that they would be bringing in at least one more goalie, upping the total to seven. Five out, seven in. I know Coyle might go pro, but it still doesn't quite add up.

I'm assuming they're acting under the assumption at least one of Chiasson and Coyle will go pro.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Myron is listed as either 2012 or 2013 so when he comes may be flexible depending on how early departures go. I feel like Darcy probably wanted a definite 2012 entry. Who knows, maybe he wasnt even looking at BU, moot pt now.

USHR’s report says Myron is for next season. He’s an 8/92 birthdate, now in his third BCHL season.

Regarding scholarships, I recall hearing that Marc Hetnik’s dad is a BU employee, so he doesn’t need a hockey scholarship. Mike Moran probably is either a walk-on or a partial. It’s safe to assume that Chiasson will not return for his senior year. Depending on the source, he’s either the #1 or #2 ranked forward in the Dallas organization and the Stars aren’t likely to chance his becoming a free agent after a senior season. But, you never know.

The USHR report on Myron included this comment regarding Coyle:
"Myron has the potential to be a top two line center for the Terriers, which, should Charlie Coyle opt to go pro (not a foregone conclusion), would fill a very immediate need."

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Not to worry, if it's an issue, Parker can just boot someone.

(blah blah blah, teflon Jerry, Joe Pearce, Tiefenwerth, blah blah blah)

Wow! Two sides of an issue in one post. Nice job, Mitt.
You forgot Motherwell and O’Hanely. No wait, those were different.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Whoops sorry about that Alex. Us 'Herpes from the Heights' folks will be sure not to make that mistake next time.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Considering no information ever came out about Motherwell/O'Hanley and that they weren't booted to free up scholarships, I'd definitely say that was a "different" situation.
