BU: '22-'23 Season: Sail The Boats

If it's kind of petty then why is it a rule? And it's also a 2 minute bench minor which means BU would have started the game with a power play. So no, I don't think it's petty at all to post about it. And I would hope that Coach Pandolfo knows the rules as Coaches Parker and Walsh did. I suspect that he allowed Merrimack to wear the jerseys because he was showing spoetsmanship, but again, not's not allowed in teh postseason.

Yes, BU took to the ice at the 1 minute mark as required, while Merrimack did so before then, when they were supposed to wait until the 0:50 mark. And again, that is a 2 minute bench minor, so BU should have had power plays to start those periods as well. However, I blame the Hockey East officials for being lax in that regard.

Sean
Yup, it is a rule (certainly not one of which I was aware) but I still believe it was of you petty to have commented on it. BU won the game. No one called a penalty. It had 0 impact on the GAME that was played on the ice which was terrific and hard fought.

I get it. You know the rules, perhaps better than anyone else on this board. You clearly know BU hockey history and tradition. This was a colossal "nothing-burger".

Again, as I posted before, it is a really bad look for Borek to have dissed Hutson. Lane is an incredible player and it is great he is on your team. I hope he stays all 4 years, but I don't think that will happen.

Good luck to BU, their very passionate fan base (hello Scarlet and others) in Manchester.

We don't care about the "color" of the uniform. What we DO care about is the gamesmanship. OBVIOUSLY the violations are deliberate and they're pushing the envelope trying to intimidate and see what they can get away with. Classless.
Obviously, there is "gamesmanship" in EVERY game. There was nothing called when a Merrimack player went to the bench to get a new stick and a BU player grabbed onto it at the same time. Just giving an example of a player trying to get an edge when he could get away with it. There are TONS of attempts to intimidate during games (scrums after the whistle, that extra push in the crease, a slash behind the play). If you can do it and it gives you even the slightest advantage, why not?

Seriously, do you think there was one BU player who was intimidated by the color of Merrimack's uniforms or that they came on the ice early? Maybe the "attempt to intimidate" backfired and it pissed off the BU players into playing harder!

Bottom line is Coach Borek, who as a UNH fan I WANT to like, pulled several minor dickish moves. Some were technically rules violations. Any single one no big deal, but the combination along with his demeanor were a bad look. If more of that beats Quinnipiac, I’m in.

His disregard for protocol rules shows a pattern of breaking NCAA rules and regulations, which I find troubling. Remember, he violated NCAA recruiting rules back in 2009 when he was associate head coach at UNH.

Furthermore, his challenge of BU's winning goal makes him look like a sore loser.

On this, we're in complete agreement.

Sorry about "petty" reference. I get a little passionate about my team sometimes.

I do appreciate your rules knowledge and generally encyclopedic knowledge of all things college hockey.

What were your thoughts on the infamous Parker headset incident (I think it was a headset) and his eating a sandwich? Sounds like you guys would be all over Scott Borek for those!

He saw the losing HEA semifinals coaches do it and wanted to fit in.

And Borek may come off as the "good guy" in a matchup with Rand Pecknold.

Probably not selling upper sections until all lower are sold.
I looked on Ticketmaster. Upper seats definitely not on sale. The seat map makes me think they are currently reserving a lot of the lower seats, some of which will soon be released. Or Ticketmaster is about to unleash its dynamic pricing.

I didn't like it and it cost him a further suspension, which was warranted.

I also didn't like some of the stuff Coach Walsh did at Alfond when they hosted BU after the water bottle incident (another Jack Parker gamesmanship special event - one which I thought was warranted, although he really shouldn't have done it - and as I recall, be got a bench minor for it and may have been ejected from the game).

And I recall Coach York was a bit of a sore loser back in 2000 when Maine defeated BC in the HE final. As was Coach Walsh in 1991 when BU defeated Maine.

So, yes many (most?) coaches can be sore losers.

Thanks for the kind words.

I have no problem with passionate fans, but I usually try to stay civil, even back when flame wars were in vogue.

BTW, back when I wrote to Hockey East and several ADs lobbying for Merrimack to be admitted to the league. I have no doubt my letters had zero influence, but I've always been a supporter of Merrimack being in the league.

Anyone want to talk about our regional draw?

I like it. By the numbers, Western Michigan is a clone of us. Same goals/game and against. I’m hoping we will be able to play our preferred style. If we had to play Denver, I’m glad it’s in Manchester. I would actually love to see that game. We know we can match up with Cornell. I’m going to predict the upset in that game and say we’ll see a BU-Cornell final. In any case we need to win and get to Tampa. I live in Florida and the arena is about 2 hours away. Easiest FF for me and we haven’t made the previous ones here - let’s get it done BU!

Bahaha Sean you can stop trying to compare what Cory Larose got away with to coaches challenging goals for no reason whatsoever

As far as the jersey color, the rule exists so that any player who may have color blindness can tell the difference between the dark-color away jerseys and light-colored home jerseys.

2 on a Thursday does suck though. That has sleepy atmosphere written all over it. Even though Manchester is close enough, we'll see how it looks at puck drop. Hardcore fans take it off but a casual would be more likely to go on a Friday night/Saturday afternoon.

I snapped this pic during the postgame celebration, as it pretty much summed up Borek’s behavior - like a toddler sulking after being told he can’t have ice cream for breakfast.

I grew up in Maine, sat on the bench as a kid for the Blue/White game with Montgomery, Snow, and Dunham, and was at the “1” against BU for Maine’s 42-1-2 season in ‘93, so I experienced the best of the Parker/Walsh rivalry. A lot of it was an act to get players and fans fired up, and it worked. But this? Nah, it’s not the same.

Are you new here? These first round games are always at times like this.

Right - which is why these are always played in front of arenas that are 20% full. I was at least hoping for the 2nd game.

Allentown is 5:00 and 8:30 game times.

zero reason to have a midday start on these.
