BU 2021-22: Albie's Great Adventure

Only moved up one spot in pairwise (22) after the win against PC. Kind of surprising. Back in top 20 for poll but that does not mean much at all. Looking ahead to the beanpot pretty down year for all teams. BU is second highest rated team via pairwise NU(16), Harvard(28), BC(32). Let's see if this year will be the first beanpot with a shootout to end! Hopefully, McCarthy, Brown, Peterson, Zabaneh, and Carrabes will be available.

Statistical anomaly - we scored 5 goals, and only 2 assists.

Can someone ask Mark Linnehan not to talk about scores of games in other sports during the broadcast? Sort of ruined my NFL viewing plan...

And related - can we get rid of the friggin' ticker on NESN? I can see how this was helpful during the days before internet and smartphones, but it is really not adding any value and it appears to actually cover up the bottom part of what the camera thinks is being shown.

And related to that - the camera distance on these "stream" games is terrible. Way too far away.

Sorry for all the complaining. Nice win!

Mark is so painful to listen to and I'm sure it's testing Bernie's patience. Just relax and stop trying to be a wise-ass comic.

Where would BU be if they beat UVM last weekend?

Where would BU be if they beat UVM last weekend?

They would be 18th with a win against UVM in regulation, 21st with an OT win against UVM, and 16th win regulation wins against UVM and Uconn(instead of OT win). Not that much of a difference, but it would help us a lot at the end of the season by a couple spots.

What is really hurting right now is the failure to at least split the 2 games with Lowell. We would be 15th right now with just 1 or those wins. We would also be 3 points more in HE and Lowell 3 less. That would put us 1 point up on them and right in the mix for a regular season title. In any case, we are now a relevant team for the first time this season. We are the hottest team in the conference at 9-1-1 with what I think is a fairly favorable schedule. Beanpot teams are weak right now. With Levi gone from Northeastern, it’s wide open. I know any game against BC will be no walk in the park, but they are struggling big time right now. Maine has been awful all season and we have played well in Orono over the last several years. It’s nothing like going up there in the 90’s, that’s for sure. I’m excited again about BU hockey! I didn’t think that would be possible this year by Thanksgiving, but it’s surely been a welcome surprise. Hopefully we stay healthy and get Commesso back strong for what should be an exciting run into March.

At the Providence game it was mentioned to me that Drew Commesso will miss the Beanpot for a second season despite being BU's number one goalie. With this observation I was asked if I could determine which BU goalie started teh most games before starting a Beanpot game. My database is complete back to the start of the 1984-85 season and I have BU information is is mostly complete back to 1962-63, but I needed to do some research for 1952-62. After doing the research and compiling the information I thought I would share it with a wider audience then just the person who asked me.

First, Commesso has played the most games of any BU starting goalie who never started a Beanpot game:

For the goalies when the Beanpot began I only counted from the start of the 1952-53 season. The list is a bit deceptive, as that first Beanpot in 1952 was in December before moving to January and then the beginning of February. Meanwhile the start of the season used to be be the start of December and now it's the start of October. Therefore in 1952 the first round of the Beanpot was BU's fifth game of the season while this season it's the 28th.

Bad news Terrier Nation. My son's a cappella night got postponed due to the weather so I'm planning on risking life and limb to attend the game tonight. I've been to every home stinker and have missed all of the successful wins (save for the 3-1 win vs. UNH, which wasn't exactly scintillating.) You've been warned.

Don't get me wrong...you know I love you dearly....but if they lose tonight you will be kicked out and not allowed to return. Thems the rulez.

Who will be in net tonight - Abel or Vinnie??? I'm going with Vinnie.

Was that as dominant a 2nd period as you have ever seen? Great energy and decision making. Maine looked like they were standing still most of the time. Duplessis looked a little nervous early but calmed down nicely. I can’t say enough about how this team has turned it around. All the credit to to them for hanging in there. Now let’s go out there and step toward bringing a trophy home! Very excited for Monday! I really think we look as good as any team in the nation right now.

When they skate hard, forecheck, and backcheck, they are very hard to play against! And they are finally playing like a selfless team - all in!

The shots were 21-2 in the 2nd.

Skoog with the Terrier.

Zegras all the rage at the NHL skills competition.

Everything is coming up BU!

So has any other NCAA Hockey school been represented on the SC Top 10 twice in one night? Skoog #2, Zegras #4. (Answering my own question, maybe 4/11/09--Bonino/CCohen)

Y’all still running Albie out of town? Sorry, couldn’t resist with everything so quiet on all the threads compared to the old days.

BC will probably win the freaking Beanpot. Lol

Unfortunately, he was cheapshotted by a Maine guy in the 2nd and didn't return.

From Albie's comments, it doesn't sound like his third-period absence was due to the hit as much as conditioning.

“[McCarthy] obviously made an impact on the scoresheet on that play, but he didn’t last the whole game,” O’Connell said. “He was, I think, a little bit tired. He hasn’t skated much. He’s not in game shape, so that was a good good game for him to kind of get back into it. Maine’s physical. They’re big, strong. They’re heavy. He’s going to have to get some rest tomorrow so he can get prepped for Monday.”
