but they won't... I'm still waiting for the HEA to suspend for a vicious hit from a UVM player last year

And we are still waiting for the lowell player to be suspended for elbow to matt gaudreau's head in the rs finale

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

Bazin is a machine; maybe the best X and O's coach I've seen in college hockey. If I was a Lowell fan, I'd be worried about a jump to the NHL.

Yes. It's no accident that his players always seem to be in the right place at the right time. They are very disciplined and have a good sense for where to be to cover for each other. The puck doesn't always seem to end up on their sticks by accident.

Which raises the question...this program needs to decide what direction they want to go in. If your philosophy is to continue to bring in "high end" talent, then you had better find a way (or a coach) to get them to leave their egos at the door. If you don't have that coach, then give him players that might be less talented and, therefore, will listen a little to compensate for lack of said talent. After 38 games this team is no more cohesive than they were after one. The whole is supposed to be greater than the sum of its parts - not less.

BU has become nothing more than an NHL minor league team. We have nothing in common with these players, who are just stopping by for a cup of coffee. When I went to school (here comes the backlash now - "You're living in the dark ages") we actually went to class with these guys. They were a part of campus life. If these guys don't want that (and I said "THESE" guys - I'm sure there are plenty of players that would give anything to get a free education and actually stay and earn a degree), then don't go. Go play juniors and then go to the pros. We support these players financially and emotionally and then they figuratively thumb their noses at us and go on their way.

Yes, I'm angry. And no, I won't "accept" that this is the way things have to be. Whoever said (and I'm not going to go back and look right now) that they couldn't care less about this game tonight was right. Oh, they'll say all the right things. But actions speak louder than words. They "cruised" through the first period and a half tonight, thinking that their "superior talent" would win the game for them. And if I'm an NHL team that has drafted some of these guys, I'm not too thrilled at their effort.

The only guy who should be suspended is the BC player who was 3rd man in and ripped off Hickey's helmet...bs officiating on that last face off...

You're kidding, right? Hickey absolutely deserves a suspension for that BS at the end of the game. Full stop.

That was a legal faceoff play

No, it's not. Ask Lowell. They got called for an unsportsmanlike conduct - delay of game at agganis in the hockey easy QFs for the same exact thing a few years ago. Koharski and Miller are the worst officiating duo in HE. I was pleasantly surprised that they seemed to do a decent job all game but kept thinking they were going to screw us at some point. Not sure it would've impacted the game since a goal off a faceoff win is tough and so rare, but I'm not surprised they screwed up something. If they blow the whistle like they should've, then the BC players wouldn't have started the fighting and there wouldn't have been any problems. The whole issue at the end is the refs fault. I particularly enjoyed the refs telling both teams to forego the handshake line and both teams ignoring the refs.

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

I don't care what some other team got called for. Billy Jaffe explained why it was a legal play.

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

Whether the faceoff play was legal or not is IRRELEVANT. There was 9 seconds left. Say they call the penalty, there's maybe 6 seconds left now. On the ensuing faceoff, BC is going to just tie it up again. What's the worst that happens, they get called for another delay of game but still waste another 3-4 seconds? If I'm BC, I delay the game every time until the clock hits zero. BU had one shot on the faceoff w/ 9.8 seconds left to win it clean and get a shot off. Any team would've tied up the faceoff, BC may have done it illegally, but that part isn't relevant to the outcome of the game.

They'd have to suspend both Fitzgeralds and Hickey if they were to hand them out.

Even after the delay in assessing the penalties, hickey is the only one who got a major. I just don't see anything else happening. Guess patman really wants to face a wounded BC team.

A Lowell fan whining? Shocked.

The danger you get with trying to kill the clock like that is the other team coming in hard with sticks trying to punch it out and then the other team responds to that. 9 seconds is an eternity for frustration to build up in that scenario.

Exactly. This whole line of reasoning seems irrational given that BU had exactly 59:51 before that to do something about it.

The point is, after it happens the first time and they call the hypothetical penalty there's ~6 seconds left. Enough time to get one shot off? If EVERYTHING runs clean, but one hiccup or if the BC center ties up the BU center's stick, game over. I'm just at a loss for why there's so much argument over whether this faceoff play was legal or not. If there's 20 seconds left on the clock, sure it's worth arguing. But whether or not BC was called for a penalty there did not deny BU a chance to win on an ensuing PP.

Not to mention the 85 gajillion GRADE A+++++++++ chances BU had at the front of the net in the first and third period that Woll either stoned or BU missed on. That game was inches from being 6-3 BU even with the abomination of a second period and first 10:00 of the third. Even throw in that play at the end of the second where the light went on. McAvoy has the puck on his stick with ~12 inches of wide open net and he backhands it back into Woll's pad. Wasn't an easy shot to make but he could've bumped it right in. Keller's miss in the third with the top half of the WIDE open while Woll had fallen down and the puck trickled out. BU misfired on so many high quality chances and Woll stopped just as many of them. That's why they lost, not because of a faceoff with 9 seconds left that was possibly a delay of game.

Well there's a lot of frustration with this performance tonight so people have to look for something I guess

I think I was pretty clear in saying I'm not sure it impacted the outcome of the game, but the fact is that it is a penalty. I don't care what the moron Billy Jaffe says. The rules are published online. I think the part that annoys me is the refs could've taken the easy way out by not even calling a penalty but just blowing the whistle and saying it was unintentional. Had they done that quickly, there also wouldn't have been any fighting at the end.

You may be right but the argument is still tantamount to rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. It's meaningless to devote any time to.

It's meaningless to devote any time to discussing college hockey. But here we are.
