Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Bellows' shot by itself puts him in another league from Lawrence. He hasn't quite lived up to some of the hype yet - he's 1/3 into his freshman year - but the comparison to Jason Lawrence is not there. Bellows' release is top notch.

Bellows and Harper both have lightening quick releases. Getting Bellows back with Keller might get him to break out like we believe that he can. They obviously have had a great deal of success working together, and let's see if they can duplicate it.

These are growing pains that some freshman have to go through. Even some highly rated freshman. Keller and Harper haven't had to through it. Greenway certainly did last season as well. Same with McAvoy for the first half of the season.

I really like the fact that Bellows has some grit to his game. But he needs to stay out of the box.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

I think Chad Krys deserves a little shout out here. He does so many of the little things well, and is remarkably poised for a freshman defenseman.

Brandon Hickey is also playing much better than a season ago. He and MacLeod were both much better as freshmen than sophomores. MacLeod is also playing better, but without as much upside with the puck as Hickey.

Fabbro is still finding himself. Like McAvoy, he can control play almost single-handidly, at times. I think he will do that more as he gets more games and his confidence increases.

He certainly does. Krys, who reportedly did well at Black Hawks development camp, has been better than expected in the defensive zone and seems to handle bigger players pretty well.

Fabbro was named to Canada's WJC evaluation camp, which begins Dec. 10 in Blainsville, Que. That's just over two hours from Burlington, so hopefully, he can be in the BU line-up on Friday night. Team USA's evaluation camp roster due to be announced on NHL Network tomorrow afternoon.

BU is just going to get better and better as the season progresses and the young kids figure it out. They have talent all over - just a matter of time before it gels and they become a team no one wants to play come the end of the season.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

For the US, and Fabbro for Canada. I know not all will make it, but that Union game.....I hope no one gets hurt. We could have a very short bench.

If all 8 make it and it's a US-CAN final, we'll have 11 forwards, 5 D and LaCouvee for Union. Giddy up.

I strongly beg to differ. It is precisely that Bellows has consistently been lazy and then gets caught trying to compensate that gets him penalized. If he had 25% of Harper's hustle he would be an incredible asset.

We may only have 10 if Tommy Kelley's injury doesn't heal quickly. I saw him walking with a boot on Saturday night.

Seriously though, what are the odds they all make it??

I would think Keller (assuming he is healthy) and McAvoy are locks. Greenway would seem to be as well, but I they want to build for speed versus size, I could see him not making it (would be a big mistake in my book). Krys was on the team last year, so they may want to keep him for the experience factor. I think only 3 goalies were listed, and they usually carry 3, so that would mean Oettinger is definitely going to be on the team. I think Bellows and Harper have the least chance of making it. I'm thrilled to see Harper get the invite, and he certainly could make it, but wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. Bellows would be disappointed if he doesn't make it, given his 1st rounder status.

Excellent analysis- bellows made it on reputation not play this year. At start of year no one figured Harper would get an invite. He was not invited to tryout camp over summer
Nice reward

At the Yale game, they're giving away. Nick Boni-gnome. Ha! Hope it helps draw a crowd.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

I hope that Quinn reunites Bellows with Keller, when Keller comes back from injury. JFK-Greenway-Harper is a solid line. Bellows and Keller were a real force together for the US Jrs., and getting them back together when just create an offensive spark that this team needs.
Greenway-JFK-Harper have 4-10-14 in 5 games together. Harper-Keller-Greenway had 8-12-20 in 4 games together and Bellows-JFK-Carpenter had 5-5-10 in 5 games together. I would like to see those lines back together if Keller can play this weekend and then go from there.

Agree, Harper-Keller-Greenway was a lethal line.

If Keller is good to go this weekend I expect the lines to be:

Greenway - Keller - Harper
Bellows - JFK - Carpenter
Olsson - Curry - Roberto
Andren - Cloonan - Chabot

I was told Kelley's lower-body injury is an ankle sprain.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

How are we feeling about this weekend?
Vermont has been doing better than expected this season and currently sit 9-3-2

Should be a good matchup.

Thoughts?

For VT is starts with goaltending.. UVM can go 4 lines deep so the scoring is balanced.. no superstars per say but no real drop off either. They are missing a few key players but depth is good overall so not sure how big a deal that will be.

It's streamed live for free.. not a great feed but decent enough.
