Before 9/11/01 nobody really bothered tho check what you brought into HFH for the games. Jenny and I always came 'prepared'. We would bring pastries from Bella Napoli and of course some potent potable. Now you just cannot get away with that. I miss those days.

What do you mean you can't get away with that? Do you not have a pocket in your sweatshirt?

Might have to lose a pint of 'Jezynowka' in a nearby snowbank. I presume snowbanks are available nearby.

Back to the original reason for this thread, I am not even going to try and analyze the outcomes. All four games will be hard fought battles and the teams that stay out of the box will emerge victorious. If any of the games is decided by more than two goals I will be surprised. The only players of note missing from the Yale line up are Anderson, who I believe did not face RPI or Union earlier in the season and Gus Young who had limited minutes at defense. Gonna be some tired student athletes come Saturday night.

Plenty. Too many, actually. Just make sure to remember which snowbank you used.

B12-we used every trick we could think of. In the old days it wasn't even necessary-I used to carry in a bag with my air horn,some libation, and a large red horn. Once the inspections began-we made friends with those at the front door and usually were able to slip some things in. Always had a small flask but the contents varied. Many times it was cherry brandy!

Any word on whether the band is able to fit this weekend's games into their busy schedule?

I should know better than to jump into this discussion. But you should know better than to bring this up again.

I love the band as much as the next guy. For those of you who would like to see the band at Thanksgiving/winter break games more often, there are a few possible routes you could take here:

1) Drop a note to RPI Residence Life, and let them know that it'd be helpful if they could make the dormitories available to band members during the break. Let them know how much it'd mean to the hockey fans who are still around.
2) If you're local (and especially if you're a student), contact the band and offer up a couch. Hotels aren't exactly cheap, and some of the students probably have nowhere better to stay.
3) Make a small donation to the band, and let them know it's with the intent that it be used to get out-of-town members to Troy. RPI has been recruiting students from a much wider geographic area in the past few years, and plane tickets from Washington State or gas money from Wisconsin is a lot of money to someone paying RPI prices for college. (Yes, the band has recently had members from both places.)
4) Or, you could keep b*tching on the internet about it, and hope that fixes the problem. Your call.

Let's keep in mind that the band is a totally volunteer organization of college students. The comparisons to the hockey team brought up a couple of weeks ago are totally bogus - the hockey team (most of them, anyway) is getting that nice little thing called a scholarship, and the band is not. Many of these folks are back at home seeing their families and high school friends only a few times a year, and they might not be too keen on missing out on that time and spending a lot of money to go back to a totally empty campus. I don't think it's anyone's right on this board to expect them to be there unconditionally. That's you too, Red Cloud. I don't care how much you did it as a student, some people have different priorities, and that's their right.

Good points, Dan, all around. I was certainly one making my opinion known about having the band at all games...and how much it factors into "home field advantage" for the boys as well as game atmosphere. Your efforts are appreciated, but to my main question...

What would it take to have the band at all the games? Do other pep bands get a stipend from the school? Has there been any competitive research done?

Your thoughts and anyone else's would be appreciated...I look forward to seeing you guys in the stands, it truly isn't the same without you.

Yeah, the rest of what you wrote is completely meaningless after this little gem. You clearly have no idea. If you want to toss bombs like this at me, don't get surprised when I become dismissive.

I ask one simple little question and you write a book in response to a perceived slight. I say again - if there were no problem at all, such a vigorous defense would be unnecessary.

I don't care if there are students from Washington and Wisconsin. No one's asking for the entire band to show up.

Also, you may not find Freakout as enjoyable as you thought. Have you actually been to Houston Field House yet? If not, here's a little hint: Stay as far away from the penalty boxes as you can.

I'm just looking out for LTsatch's personal safety, as well as to not create confrontations similar to the Brown playoff series when they threatened to sue us because they were being morons.

I don't think the Freakouts in the recent few years are any where close to those back in the 80's and 90's when it comes to noise level. I know a linesman who used to do many of the games and he had said that at times back then, he could not hear his own whistle. Those days the HFH was filled with red horns, bells, air horns, and tons of large banners. HFH was just plain intimidating for those games. Actually, in the mid eighties most games were like that and even some road games as the contingent of RPI fans that used to come down to Baker Rink was overwhelming. I think the NCAA and the RPI rule may have had a lot to do with this and we can thank our next opponent for that rule.

They don't know how to act or where to sit in a rambunxious environment. Then, if they don't get their way, they whine and take actions until they get their way.

We may hate Clarkson, Union, and Cornell, but at least they know where they belong.
