Re: Brown @ Yale - QF 3/12-14
So we are scoreless after one from New Haven in what has largely been an evenly matched twenty minutes. Unofficial shot totals were 10 apiece.
Thoughts:
Too early to say Yale isn't the same team without Backman, but they didn't look as sharp in the first. Most likely explanation is rust.
Blase has looked good so far. Not just because he hasn't let one in. He has been in position and challenging, not going down early as he has in the past. Got handcuffed a little on one glove save.
Although Laganiere was listed with Miller and O'Neill on the line sheet, he was only on the ice twice in the first I think, and it was with Balch and Ziegler on the 4th line. It turned out to be Limbert that got the jump up, but he was playing as the center between Little and Kearney and Arcobello moved over to Backman's line. I suppose he is the best choice to fill Sean's shoes. He is the only senior forward left and the two of them are obviously close.
It seems Allain is committed to keeping the combinations of O'Neill-Miller (played together in Chicago of USHL) and Little-Kearney (played together their entire three years at Yale) together. He will likely keep rotating players in and out around them. Arco will move back and forth and we will probably see others step in where Limbert is.
Clemente looks like he is in a zone. Yale turned it on a little more late in the period and he was big. Saw him at RPI last weekend and he was his best so far this year. The two games these teams played this year were 6-5 and 8-5 scores. Early indications is this one won't be that way.
