Brown visits RPI, Friday March 4th

Re: Brown visits RPI, Friday March 4th

The union labor thing is just a building policy at big box arenas. There could be some labor law issues in general, but they're certainly nothing to do with the streaming situation.

BoxCast doesn't do any production, they just provide a little USB interface that converts a video single to an internet stream, the bandwidth for the stream, and the online interface for watching the productions. Each school simply plugs in their video source (single cam for some, scoreboard video for Q and Harvard, full productions for WCKN and (formerly) RPI TV, and whatever weird hybrid the Ivies are doing). The BoxCast model works great for people who aren't super technically knowledgeable and simply want to get simple video on the web. I believe SLU currently uses BoxCast for their regular season (free) streams.

Last year, "some one" posted direct links to the unlocked/free BoxCast feeds. Perhaps "some one" will do that again this year.

Re: Brown visits RPI, Friday March 4th

Assuming BoxCast hasn't wisened up to how to do that...

HTML5 video is really hard to lock down. People continued to defeat Neulion's NHL Gamecenter efforts through this season. The attack vector is usually via the streams used by iOS devices.

Well, let's just say debug mode will be turned on on the browser. ;)

Just out of curiosity, is the league sending someone with a camera to HFH to run BoxCast? Or is the administration bowing to the wishes of EC$$ Hockey?

Every school is required to have a single camera that provides a video feed to the visiting coach (also obviously used by the home coach as well). This camera is often used for streaming at schools without dedicated video production facilities. RPI Athletics typically uses RPI TV's "Camera 1" for this purpose. It's not clear to me if that will be the case this weekend, but it's almost certainly the athletic department's responsibility to provide video to BoxCast.

I'm under the impression the league doesn't have any non-contract employees outside of Hagwell and Ed Krajewski, maybe Paul Stewart but I suspect he's a contractor.

Really? Didn't know that. However, based on what you said, it's still technically possible RPI could have no video stream at all, with camera 1 still provided to both teams. Unless that goes through the league because it is a stream?

It'd be really amusing if all they could use for video were the two overhead goal cams EC$$ Hockey mandates, and then find it doesn't work again.

Probably the healthiest that this team has been in a long time.
No excuses, score early, score often... Lgr!!

Despite Athletics' continued support of RPI TV, I seriously doubt they'd even consider testing the league and fans willing to spend $10 in that way.

Agreed, this is an ECAC thing, not the AD. Regardless, I support RPITV and look forward to seeing their games next year!

Re: Brown visits RPI, Friday March 4th

A read head-scratcher is to keep Moore in, and sit Grant. He struggled mightily with Brown's physicality.
Agreed. Brown is a fairly big team with several players over 200 pounds and many over 6' tall. This is a team that we might be better off with a big larger defense which Grant provides. Meirs Moore has talent but more on the offensive side. Even that top line of theirs which seems to do most of the scoring damage, has a big winger.

Oh I doubt it, too. All the best with the coverage you're able to get tonight.
