Brown @ RPI: Game 3

Re: Brown @ RPI: Game 3

Bad way to end a season-a mostly lackluster performance. We did make a game of it at the end-but Brown just never gave us enough chances tonight-they were not called for a bunch of penalties as they were for the first 2 games. We took some bad ones-the 5 on 3 turns out to make the big difference at the end. I can now think about next year-7 months away.

Re: Brown @ RPI: Game 3

Did anyone see the cheap shot at the end of the game? Whoever it was needs to grow a pair and accept defeat. This was a hard-fought series, but the better team, for 2 out of 3 games, rightfully advanced.

I think RPI fans expected WAY too much out of this team. They have so many talented freshmen and sophomores that they are going to be exceptional in 2 years, if not the next. I wish you all the best, and hope you don't take this loss too hard. I also hope you'll cheer for us next week at Yale.

Re: Brown @ RPI: Game 3

Feel badly about gettting back now and tapping in to the broadcast... GLM is making a lot of sense on wrpi right now... looking at our future. The moment stinks but strides have been made and there's more to follow.

Re: Brown @ RPI: Game 3

Sorry RPI fans, from a guy who's been tormented by Brown plenty of times. I like the way your team's been playing the last couple of years, and I like where it's headed. They will do the ECAC proud for the next two seasons at least.

kdiff, the cheap shot was taken because a Brown forward shot the puck at / after the whistle when the game was clearly over. Personally, I'm glad that the RPI players stood up for the team, and did not go quietly.

As to the freshmen / sophomore comment... I agree, but we are in danger of losing at least two of them (D'Amigo, Pirri) to "early graduation". 4 of our freshmen / sophomores have been drafted and these two are just waiting to get the go-ahead from the front office.

All that said, congratulations to Brown on their hard-fought victories. They played with much better effort and wanted the wins much more than the Engineers on 2 of the 3 nights. Best of luck against the Elis.

Didn't see that part. While I still think he shouldn't have elbowed him, I will at least revoke my prior statements if what you say is true. That's unsportsmanlike from the Brown player, and the RPI guy was simply retaliating- not as severe a crime as just randomly elbowing some guy in the head (though still pretty classless).

RPI could have started an all out brawl after the final whistle and not even come close to approaching the level of classlessness I saw from Brown this weekend.

Care to elaborate? I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm pretty **** biased, obviously.

The constant whining and complaining on draws. The constant diving. Whittet caterwauling to the refs repeatedly on icing for free timeouts. Zolnierczyk trying to fake an injury in Game 2. Volpatti talking **** to the RPI bench. Zolnierczyk specifically taunting two elderly RPI fans on his way off the ice tonight among numerous fans he taunted after the final whistle blew.

There's plenty more, but I don't want to pile on.

I don't mind losing to most teams, but I really have a problem losing to a team that completely lacks class.

Hmm. Watching it on RPI.TV, all I saw was Whittet "caterwauling", and I wasn't quite sure why. He was getting plenty of boos, though, so I assume it was about something stupid. As for diving: maybe they dived a lot Friday night when I didn't watch, but I didn't see any diving over the last two games, and nor have I seen Brown dive at all this year. While I didn't see it, it wouldn't surprise me if Harry Z were taunting fans- he's always running his mouth, to everyone. Volpatti has a terrible temper, so he's bound to go off at players, too.

OK, so the classlessness is all excusable. Got it.

If you didn't see Brown diving at all this year, you weren't watching very closely. Ever notice how Zolnierczyk likes to throw his stick up in the air to draw penalties? How about the slashing call that was drawn by a Brown player jumping off his skates and trying to fly like Superman?

Uh, no, I haven't noticed any of that. Two opposite perspectives, I guess. I've observed that we're the probably most physical team in the league, and that sometimes, that physicality leads to rashness and stupid penalties, but I don't think we go out and purposely embellish everything. If we did, there would probably be quite a fuss about it, and your comments are really the first I've ever seen on this matter.

Falling over after being brushed isn't being physical. Reacting to a stick check by acting like you've been shot isn't physical. It's stupid.

It's OK for Volpatti to talk smack to an entire bench, he's got a temper. Free pass! Zolnierczyk taunts old people? He's always running his mouth. Free pass!

Well, at the risk of staying up all night debating this with someone whom I know will never give an inch, I'm going to reemphasize the opposite viewpoints thing and wish you the best next year. And I'll also keep a lookout for the things you mentioned as unsportsmanlike or classless in the future.

Night!

I doubt it.

You've never seen your team embellish? Ever? I thought UNH were the Skating Mother Teresas?

I've seen RPI dive. It makes me shake my head every time. But then, I probably just know what I'm looking at when I watch hockey.

Also, may I add, the classlessness of the fans that have the audacity to sit in the STUDENTS SECTION and then try to dictate to us how to behave through the mall cops, including one of my friends being WRONGFULLY ACCUSED. Every single taunt they deserved, and they were all kept at a family rating.

As soon as they stop cheering for a convicted pederast, maybe then they can tell other people how to behave.

Re: Brown @ RPI: Game 3

Just wanted to give a short observation on last night's game. Brown came out strong and we did not match their intensity until midway throught the first period.
By then, we were down a goal.
The ice must have been terrible, I have never seen so many passes jump over sticks. (both teams).
Also, the hockey gods were smiling on Clemente. He had two shots go right through him and miss going in by inches.
The season ended too soon for this team, but they did make strides and I look forward to next season.
I will miss Kerins. He seemed to be the catalyst on so many comebacks this year.
As for Kdiff's request to root for Brown, I think not. :p

Re: Brown @ RPI: Game 3

Yes, I will rather enjoy watching Yale pick this group of hacks apart.

Better to be a group of hacks being picked apart than to sit at home, watching another team pick apart the team you failed the beat! Have fun next weekend. Are there any concerts or plays in town? I can look some info up, if you'd like.
